  1. - Montrose - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 3:59 pm:

His love of Indiana bleeds into everything.

  2. - Colin O'Scopy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 3:59 pm:

Seeing how much the Governor loves him some Indiana, why would I be shocked he picked Purdue?

  3. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 3:59 pm:

At least he finally made some decisions

  4. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:00 pm:

Xavier won’t the Big East team that drops PU out of the tourney. That’ll be Villanova my friends.

Purdue will be lucky to make it past Butler.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:00 pm:

All I’m saying is Purdue’s President, former Governor Mitch Daniels is Gov. Rauner’s buddy and role model.

  6. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:02 pm:

Wanna bet that Diana filled this out?

  7. - Sox Fan - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:03 pm:

In a pointless bracket, doesn’t it make sense for the Governor of a state to pick a team that actually plays in that state (Loyola)?

  8. - Because I said so.... - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:05 pm:

$100 says a staffer filled this out.

  9. - MakePoliticsCoolAgain - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:05 pm:

Final Four: Xavier, Cincinnati, Villanova, and Michigan State. State will win in all vs Xavier.

  10. - Joe - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:06 pm:

    he’s going to struggle

  11. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:06 pm:

Rauner has a similar bracket for eliminating public schools and social services.

  12. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:07 pm:

Can’t see Xavier beating North Carolina… let alone Ohio State…

Arizona’s coach is possibly under FBI scrutiny…

    Texas Tech should handle Florida…

TCU won’t get past Michigan State…

    Other than that… Go Ramblers

  13. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:08 pm:

===Rauner has a similar bracket for eliminating public schools and social services.===

    You win. This is Restaurant-Quality.

The NIT bracket is the elimination of state universities?

  14. - Amalia - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:08 pm:

Men’s bracket. Purdue, nope. who’d he pick in the women’s bracket?

  15. - Angry Republican - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:09 pm:

Rauner has time to fill out a pointless bracket but doesn’t have time to govern.

  16. - MakePoliticsCoolAgain - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:11 pm:

=Can’t see Xavier beating North Carolina… let alone Ohio State…=

Xavier has been much better than people have given them credit for, but I don’t see how Ohio State can overcome the size of Xavier.

  17. - Jen - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:12 pm:

He at least took Loyola to the Elite Eight!

  18. - We'll See - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:14 pm:

Meh, even if Bruce is wrong he’s tall enough to handle Mitch Daniels (now Perdue’s president)

  19. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:15 pm:

Loyola 60, Miami 60. 1:00 minute to play. Tru TV, right now.

  20. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:16 pm:

    - MakePoliticsCoolAgain -

I like Xavier a lot, I can see that size getting into some foul trouble though, the OSU game is a toss-up. That’s a game I’ll each and keep it there without leaving.

  21. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:21 pm:

Loyola wins, 64-62, last second three.

  22. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:21 pm:

    LOYOLA

    (Exclamation marks a plenty)

  23. - PublicServant - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:21 pm:

His NCAA picks are as good as his governance.

  24. - Rutro - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:23 pm:

Unbelievable, he mushed my pools. Go away Bruce!

  25. - DuPage Saint - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:25 pm:

I thought he would be all in for Missouri, but maybe that is on a different court

  26. - MakePoliticsCoolAgain - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:27 pm:

-I like Xavier a lot, I can see that size getting into some foul trouble though, the OSU game is a toss-up. That’s a game I’ll each and keep it there without leaving-

It will be one those games you certainly don’t flip around to see what else is going on in the tourney.

    LOYOLA!!!

  27. - Bruce Focus!! - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:29 pm:

I wish Bruce would spend more time governin rather than filling out a NCAA Bracket. Focus Bruce

  28. - Anon324 - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:34 pm:

Madigan, and the NCAA Selection Committee he controls…

  29. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:34 pm:

No one wants Bruce in their pool because he refuses to pay the entry fees but still wants full participation in benefits. #FairShare

  30. - Blimp - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:44 pm:

Purdue will not win. But several family members are alumni, so it would be nice.

  31. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:44 pm:

    HBO - “Dad’s Home State” - Season 4, Episode 28

Bruce tries to fill out a college sports bracket, picks winners by the costumes the mascots get to wear. Diana decides emailing isn’t going to be her thing anymore, buys 50 rolls of USPS stamps. Diana’s State Employee takes one downstate County off the visit list. Hud and Anne argue about which staff completed bracket will be Bruce’s official bracket, The Looch leaves work way early to watch Loyola in the tournament, leaves his phone in his desk. Comedy, 61 minutes.

  32. - City Zen - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:50 pm:

==No one wants Bruce in their pool because he refuses to pay the entry fees but still wants full participation in benefits. #FairShare==

Good one. Another way to look at it…AFSCME forces everyone to fill out a bracket, but if you only pay 85%, you’re not allowed to fill out the Final Four.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:52 pm:

Rauner’s “5-12” upset is the New Mexico State win over Clemson.

    I have that one too.

    ===he mushed my pools.===

That’s possible. I’m worried about this now, more than I thought I would be.

  34. - City Zen - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 4:55 pm:

Three religious schools, two low income tax state schools, a school that has frozen tuition for 5 years running in a low tax state, coal miners…all advancing far.

    Bracketology meets ideology.

  35. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:04 pm:

I can see the Governor… going to a bar… orders a Stag beer… takes a sip… goes into his biker vest, pulls out a small folded piece of paper… his bracket… orders some fries, asks for a pen… starts crossing off his losers… fries arrive… asks how Purdue is doing… guy at the end of the bar gives Purdue’s tourney history of early exits, going back to the Keady days… finishes his Stag, orders another… asks to the bar keep to keep it on Xavier - Ohio State… finishes his fries… another pick goes south, crosses another team out…

  36. - Soothsayer - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:11 pm:

When Rauner’s bracket goes up in flames, no doubt he will have Madigan to blame.

  37. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:15 pm:

    Evelyn filled out a bracket.

Instead of her bracket breaking every year, she trips on it and sues CBS and the NCAA…

  38. - Blue dog dem - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:20 pm:

Cant believe he had time for this ya know….that 100% focused thingy on Pritzker and Madigan.

  39. - Glengarry - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:20 pm:

Purdon’t will never win it all.

  40. - wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:23 pm:

Where did he find the time to make all those decisions?

His Final Four are within reason (Cincy, NC, Purdue and Mich St are mine, with Mich St beating NC in the final).

Little too bullish on Loyola (I get it), but they sure won a thriller today.

  41. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:26 pm:

JB paid for 20 different brackets. Hopefully one will be a big winner.

CK got a bracket, but wouldn’t fill it out because Illinois isn’t on it.

Biss filled his bracket with only “middle class” schools moving forward.

  42. - Diogenes in DuPage - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:28 pm:

Hey. Easy does it on Purdue President Mitch Daniels. First, if only Rauner had his governing talent and political skills. Second, Daniels won my admiration for freezing tuition for my son’s last 5 years there (he did undergrad & grad school there). Quality of program and professors did not suffer. Third, he was a very outgoing, interested, and capable university president. He greeted my son on campus more than once. He saved the university money by doing all 7 graduation addresses each year. He is a strong proponent of public higher ed.

  43. - TominChicago - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:31 pm:

When Purdue loses, Rauner will claim he had Duke winning

  44. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:32 pm:

Whoops, too busy making jokes to comment on the Post.

TCU over Sparty? C’mon, man. AA has Sparty taking it all.

I think the Looch filled this out while he was on hold with a recruiting firm.

  45. - wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:34 pm:

    – Easy does it on Purdue President Mitch Daniels.–

It’s amazing after a nationwide search they found their next president in the governor about to leave office.

I don’t think any Illinois governor ever engineered such a golden parachute on the taxpayer dime.

  46. - wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:37 pm:

–I think the Looch filled this out while he was on hold with a recruiting firm.–

“Your resume says you have ‘offshore police’ experience. Were you in the Coast Guard or something?”

  47. - DuPage Bard - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:41 pm:

Look at all those state schools represented in the NCAA tournament. Where are any of Illinois state schools? Heck most of our best players want nothing to do with our state schools.
Thank goodness he wants everyone to be Dartmouth

  48. - Diogenes in DuPage - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 6:04 pm:

–It’s amazing after a nationwide search they found their next president in the governor about to leave office.–
Word, very true. And a nice, golden parachute, BUT if only Illinois had a governor capable enough or passionate enough …. From what I heard and observed, Mitch is not phoning it in.

  49. - Diogenes in DuPage - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 6:11 pm:

Oh, and sorry Governor. Purdue gets edged out by Villanova. And Villanova or Kansas wins it all.

  50. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 6:42 pm:

So much for 100 percent of his focus on beating Pritzger and Madigan in November.

  51. - Cubs Win - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 7:44 pm:

Purdue coach Matt Painter earned his master’s degree at Eastern Illinois so maybe this is the Gov’s way of acknowledging the outstanding education and career preparation offered by our public universities.

    I know, I know…but maybe that’s the reason…maybe…right?

  52. - NorthsideNoMore - Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 7:55 am:

He couldn’t write in Dartmouth? Nova wins

  53. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Mar 16, 18 @ 8:05 am:

If you had “chalk”, Buffalo, Alabama (8-9 shouldn’t count, but Alabama was the 9) and Illinois’ own Loyola were your losses, you went 13-3, a pretty strong start.

Buffalo’s take down of Arizona was so complete, I had to turn it away, the thrill of a 4-seed going down turned to real embarrassment and Buffalo played great, not over their heads unbelievably great.

    Day 2 awaits…
