Morning Consult poll: Trump disapproval is 60 percent here

Thursday, Apr 5, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Since this is a Morning Consult poll, you need to keep in mind that the firm’s methodology is unusual and opaque

Morning Consult conducted surveys with 987,166 registered U.S. voters from Jan. 20, 2017 to March 31, 2018 to determine the approval ratings for President Donald Trump in each of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., for each month. […]

The results use a statistical technique called multilevel regression and poststratification (MRP) to estimate state-level public opinion from the national survey data. MRP has been widely used in industry and in academia, and MRP estimates of state- and congressional district-level public opinion have generally been shown to outperform national polling, especially when there are few respondents in smaller geographic areas.

And it goes on and on and on.

* Anyway, the poll found that the president’s Illinois approval rating is 36 percent. His disapproval rating is 60 percent. The claimed MoE is 1 percent.

Illinois disapproves of Trump more than most states. Only Hawaii, Massachusetts, Vermont and California give him worse ratings, according to this poll.

–Illinois disapproves of Trump more than most states.–

And that’s before he started threatening the livelihood of farmers and those who sell to them.

Rauner has to “get back” the Ives voters… consolidate the Trump voters too…

…while also seem reasonable… to moderates and Indies… and the voters… polling already has Rauner under water so badly…

Who is the Rauner constituency, when Ives gets 48% against him, and Trump is polling terrible here too… and Rauner’s path to win, ironically, needs both groups to support him… in a possible “blue wave” year.

    Whew.

Those numbers may sink even lower if rescission cuts happen to Illinois. Rauner doesn’t have a great record of standing up to T. The word salad from yesterday on tariffs is just the latest case in point.

From Politico: Trump, McCarthy look to cut billions from budget deal they just passed

Republican leaders are eager to tamp down a backlash from conservatives.

Sure. And they’re going to sell the Washington Monument, too, to pay for the wall.

Meanwhile, Keynesian doubling of deficit and borrowing in a growth economy with low unemployment.

Rather counter-intuitive, from those GOP fiscal conservatives.

Gop Congress critters might want to take note and might want to consider maybe serving as a check on the executive…but what do I know?

  6. - Incognito - Thursday, Apr 5, 18 @ 11:45 am:

    Word is right.

Illinois exports more soybeans than any other state.

  7. - Anonymous - Thursday, Apr 5, 18 @ 12:09 pm:

Well, Trump has been an unmitigated disaster for America,

  8. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Apr 5, 18 @ 12:35 pm:

It doesn’t matter what Illinois thinks about the president because it never cared for him. So the degree of dislike doesn’t matter. If there was a change, that would be news.

    This isn’t.

–It doesn’t matter what Illinois thinks about the president because it never cared for him. So the degree of dislike doesn’t matter.–

It does for Republicans on the ballot in November, just as it always has for candidates of a president’s party in off-year elections.

    ==So the degree of dislike doesn’t matter.==

Please share this astute political analysis with the Illinois GOP congressmen whose districts are now under threat for the first time in years.

Despite his childish twitter rants and his marital infidelity, I like his actions on taxes and China.

  12. - Retired Educator - Thursday, Apr 5, 18 @ 1:57 pm:

The low Republican numbers along with the off year election, should spell doom for many across the nation. Illinois suffers from the least popular Governor in a long time. I would stay far away from Rauner’s coattails.

  13. - Pundent - Thursday, Apr 5, 18 @ 2:06 pm:

=It doesn’t matter what Illinois thinks about the president because it never cared for him.=

I’m sure Peter Roskam finds your words comforting.

Trump campaign for Rauner, would be sweet payback for snubbing the convention and inauguration. Send a message to the Kochs

No surprise here. From a state that contains Chicago which prides itself on being tough. (Everyone thump chest while saying… da bears) trump showed his true colors of being scared out of town during the primary. Big talk, little stick

Illinois is one of the five highest taxed states in the country - Tax reform bill hit this state very hard -

Check out the approval rating in the other heavily taxed states and also this is sanctuary state.

Compound that with likes of Rambo, MJM and Durbin to name a few -

Trump invested little here - Rauner is a none issue

  17. - skeptic - Thursday, Apr 5, 18 @ 4:41 pm:

It makes no difference because this is a Democratic state, particularly at the national level.

Ronald Reagan could not win in Illinois today.

What few swing states there are, like Florida, is where these polls MIGHT mean something.

    What’s Rahm’s approval ratings?
I’m sure they’re spiking after announcing more ticket writing and the advent of the JVD trial this summer.

Anyone got some numbers for us?
