DGA Calls on Rauner to Renounce Greitens After Bombshell Legislative Report
Missouri Governor Appeared in Rauner TV Ad; New Report Accuses Greitens of Forced Sexual Encounter
Today, the Democratic Governors Association called on Bruce Rauner to renounce the endorsement of Missouri Governor Eric Greitens, following a Missouri House special committee investigative report that accused Greitens of a forced sexual encounter and attempt to blackmail his hairdresser.
Governor Bruce Rauner had Greitens appear in a television ad across Illinois. He has refused to renounce Greitens’ endorsement since the allegations first came to light, saying he wouldn’t take a position saying “those allegations need to be investigated.”
“The allegations have been investigated and it’s time for Bruce Rauner to do the right thing and call on Eric Greitens to step down,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “Bruce Rauner should clearly say that this abusive behavior is unacceptable and renounce his political ally Eric Greitens.”
Some background is here. The full report contains some graphic stuff, so beware if you’re at work. Click here to read it.
…Adding… That Rauner ad is still online…
*** UPDATE *** Rauner wants Greitens to resign…
- Just Me - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 10:10 am:
I care more about what Rauner and Pritzker think about the mess and the corruption in our own state than the mess and corruption in another state.
- People Over Parties - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 10:20 am:
They can focus on better things. It’s a bit embarrassing, but most people with a brain can put together that he doesn’t support this.
- ANON - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 10:21 am:
Is this the case involving the accuser that stated in her deposition that she might have been dreaming the alleged black mail attempt? But, I agree with “Just ME”, who cares. It is time to solve IL problems not others.
- Actual Red - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 10:26 am:
It’s silly to act like you can’t work to fix Illinois’s problems while also denouncing sexual harassers who you have previously been publicly buddy-buddy with. It would take basically no time for him to just say “This is bad, Greitens should step down, let’s move on.” But Rauner seems to be pathologically unable to say anything unrelated to Madigan or taxes.
- Iggy - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 10:26 am:
Illinois worrying about Missouri’s problems right now is beyond laughable. Swing and a miss DGA.

“Speaker Madigan and the Missouri Governors he controls.”

Disagree Grietens became an IL problem when he supported Rauner’s negligence (blame Madigan).
Also Rauner is widely known as Greiten’s mentor.
- Enemy of the State - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 10:33 am:
Double bonus points for all players if Rauner mentions Greiten and Trump in the same statement. Triple points if he does not blame Madigan.
- Anon Nice - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 10:37 am:
Sorry, guys, but you don’t get to bring in your out-of-state pals to trash the other party in your state and then get to ignore them when they no longer help you.
- northernwatersports - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 10:43 am:
I can see the tv commercials now….
Such great friends…should be investigated…it WAS ‘investigated’ and now….
He’s still my friend? His State is a good place run by good people?
I don’t think BR should be let off of this fishhook anytime soon. It’s way too easy….

How is that possible? Greitens was indicted in February.
Is no one in charge of anything?
- Cheryl44 - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 11:15 am:
If this was some random GOP governor I can see why Rauner should sit pat. But it isn’t. It’s Rauner’s pal over there in MO. Not saying anything looks like he doesn’t think harassing women is anything to be concerned about.
Which is probably exactly what he does think.
- wordslinger - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 11:27 am:
–..like he doesn’t think harassing women is anything to be concerned about.–
The report issued yesterday by the bipartisan MO House committee goes way beyond harassment.
- Ray del Camino - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 12:01 pm:
Right, Word–A *Republican-dominated* (5-to-2) bipartisan House committee. Greitens does not have a lot of friends in his own party. It’s like he hijacked the state GOP or something.
- People Over Parties - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 12:40 pm:
Wouldn’t you know, he called on him to step down.
- illini97 - Thursday, Apr 12, 18 @ 2:21 pm:
It’s not often I agree with Rauner, but on this I’m in full throated agreement. Greitens needs to go if even half of what is in that report is true.
If you haven’t yet, read it. It paints the picture of a monster and finds Witness 1 to be generally credible.
