Hoffman is getting a quarter million every year to deflect blame on the Quincy Veteran’s Home? No wonder it’s so expensive to fix.

I know this is off topic but since it’s 420 I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Drugs for winning the War on Drugs.

Good call to take a sick day, Rich. Now influenza B is affecting folks widely. Get some rest, and hopefully you will feel better soon.

Got invited to an Agro Forestry event at U of I. Sounds interesting. I have been wanting to plant disease resistant chestnut trees for years. They are starting to be available.

Expect there is a lot to get right. Any experts here?

  11. - Anotheretiree - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 10:47 am:

LBM Chestnut - Never thought I would see a reference to Chestnut trees on here LOL. I want to plant also. I know the American Chestnut Foundation will ship you potentially blight resistant seeds if you join. $300,$500,$1000 for 4,6,12 seeds respectively. I can’t do that yet ..feel like Jack trading the cow for magic beans ..

From today’s POLITICO Illinois Playbook: “When Lisa Madigan retires, [Mendoza] will be the highest-ranking woman in state government - people should know about her.” - Patti Solis Doyle, Democratic consultant and former Obama adviser

My question is: Who is higher ranking, the Lt. Governor or the Comptroller?

  13. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 10:56 am:

Glad to see you’re okay and feeling better, Rich.

Happy 420 day. Schumer’s going to introduce a marijuana decrim bill in DC very soon. Wishing it well and hoping we get out of the dark ages nationally on marijuana.

  14. - Bigtwich - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 11:00 am:

-My question is: Who is higher ranking, the Lt. Governor or the Comptroller?-

I think there’s an assumption that there will be a new Lt Gov at the same time AG Madigan retires .

  15. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 11:01 am:

===“When Lisa Madigan retires, [Mendoza] will be the highest-ranking woman in state government - people should know about her.” - Patti Solis Doyle, Democratic consultant and former Obama adviser===

    They went too “shorthand” there.

Mendoza will be the highest ranking Democratic women.

  16. - Bigtwich - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 11:03 am:

Whoops! There will be a new Lt. Gov too.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 11:04 am:

===I think there’s an assumption that there will be a new Lt Gov at the same time AG Madigan retires .===

If Pritzker wins, Stratton will become the highest ranking Democratic woman in state government, so the hyperbole isn’t well thought out.

Hows about Mendoza is “a big deal, people know her, she has many leather bound books, her office smells of expensive mahogany…”

  18. - Amalia - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 11:58 am:

Hope you feel better, Rich, by 4:20 pm at the very least!

  19. - Honeybear - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 12:52 pm:

Ugh…enough of the Rotheimer/Ives/INN misappropriation of the #metoo movement. Stop…just stop. Your attack was ineffectual because conduct unbecoming of a legislator is not a criminal act and does not warrant the weaponizing of a valid complaint process. Look you destroyed a sitting Senator over an unfounded allegation. Take your victory and move on. At this point you are doing more harm than good to #metoo in my opinion. But there again, maybe like Rauner, that’s what you want. Perfidy

  20. - Anonymous - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 1:03 pm:

Get up one hour later every day. Put your feet up, listen to music every midday. Keep your puppy close every minute you can.
And don’t put in the hours during general election as you did during primary.
Maybe take Monday off too at least for one week.

  21. - cc - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 1:04 pm:

    1:03 === me

  22. - thoughts matter - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 1:34 pm:

==My question is: Who is higher ranking, the Lt. Governor or the Comptroller? ==

Presumably the Attorney General and Comptroller, both women, are on the same level. Your question actually is who ranks higher - Lt. Governor or the other constitutional officers.

Given that we already have a female Lt Governor and the Democratic Lt. Governor candidate is female, who wins that office in November is moot.

I believe both the Attorney General and Comptroller outrank the Lt. Governor. I also believe that the Governor is equal to the other constitutional officers. So, I believe that once Lisa retires the comptroller will be the highest ranking female politician in the state.

  23. - Anonymous - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 1:36 pm:

If Priztker wins, who’ll be Deputy Governor?

  24. - Last Bull Moose - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 1:38 pm:

AnotherRetiree. Thanks. These magic beans are more likely to pay off than the ones the policians have been promising.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 1:38 pm:

===I believe both the Attorney General and Comptroller outrank the Lt. Governor.===

    Not according to Succession.

  26. - Ole' Nelson - Friday, Apr 20, 18 @ 3:13 pm:

I believe the ACF Chestnut seedlings are pure American while most of the blight-resistant trees are a blend of American and other varieties. I think Lucille has a great program with the ACF trees, but do not know that they are ready for production plantings yet. I think you still get quite a bit of blight in the majority of trees from that source.

  27. - Castanea Dentata - Saturday, Apr 21, 18 @ 9:59 am:

Last Bull Moose - Another retiree: you can buy Blight-resistant American chestnut/Chinese hybrids, e.g. here:
    https://www.tytyga.com/Revival-Chestnut-p/NUTCHE-ZD-REVIVAL.html?matchtype=&network=g&device=t&adposition=1o2&keyword=&gclid=CjwKCAjwwuvWBRBZEiwALXqjw60gD2Ylcmn_5Vm-3fQFt39Q6zdAr87GtEltXsWUaf0xgPt1sin9CRoCdX4QAvD_BwE

These are not the ACF backcross hybrids.
