* Rauner campaign…
Today, the Rauner campaign is launching PritzkerMadigan.com, a website highlighting JB Pritzker and Mike Madigan’s agenda of fewer jobs, higher taxes, and more corruption.
With Pritzker now the Democratic nominee for governor and Madigan’s reelection as head of the Democratic Party of Illinois, they can finally make their ticket public for all of Illinois to see.
Madigan has conspired to elect Pritzker by “breaking legs behind the scenes.” To repay Madigan, Pritzker has remained silent on his corruption despite calls from high profile Democrats for Madigan to step down as head of the party.
Pritzker and Madigan are offering the same corrupt deals that have hurt Illinois for decades with destructively high taxes and less economic opportunity for hardworking families.
Pritzker-Madigan: Keep Illinois Corrupt
The website is here.
* Madigan addressed this corruption allegation yesterday…
As to being repeatedly called corrupt by Rauner — and having Rauner compare his fight to taking on the Mafia — Madigan said such words and comparisons shouldn’t be used “without solid evidence, which Rauner does not have. … That speaks to Rauner’s mind … (and) how he views attempting to gain success. And I think in the end the people of Illinois are going to come to understand that about Bruce Rauner. They’re going to vote him out of office.”
* Meanwhile…

Specialized websites and snapchat filters mainly work to keep the faithful energized. Which is valuable, and maybe necessary since Rauner’s base is pretty demoralized. But his base is also less than a majority right now (perhaps only right now). He needs to make some moves to grow it.

Interesting: looks like they’re using https://unbounce.com/ as a core for the site.
That in itself doesn’t mean anything, but it looks like unbounce is a way to put together these landing page super quickly.

The mistake Rauner’s Crew is making…
They could have McCann running, they had Ives get 48%, as a sitting governor versus a state representative, in a primary…
Rauner has no constituency, is 30+ points under water, losing to Pritzker…
… and here’s where I’m going with this…
Pritzker is already underwater… and Rauner is down double digits.
Rauner needs to figure out who the heck is going to vote for a failed governor, who has no base support, running, at the same time, as an alleged Republican, in a state Trump lost by 16 points… in Trump’s midterm… during a possible blue wave.
But…
Let’s get that “Madigan-Pritzker” website up.
Pathetic.
- Pundent - Tuesday, Apr 24, 18 @ 9:49 am:
Rauner has a message that will undoubtedly resonate with the few people that are already with him. For the rest of us, not so much. A governor runs on his own record not the records of others. I know that Rauner grasps that because the “Pat Quinn failed” campaign tells me so. Not only has Bruce Rauner failed but he offers no reason to believe that another 4 years would be any different.

===But his base is also less than a majority right now===
Bases are almost always less than a majority. Hence the term “base.” Everyone else is either in the other base or has to be persuaded.

Blah, blah, blah, yada yada, yada, you’ve told us a million times how bad Madigan is. So, Bruce, please tell us what you are going to do to actually help Illinoisans. We’re dying here, and all you want to do is point fingers. Do something.

–But his base is also less than a majority right now (perhaps only right now). He needs to make some moves to grow it.–
His “base,” even if solidly behind him (which it is not) is not enough to win a general election. Same goes for Dems, but they have a bigger base.
The game is won between the 35-yard lines in Independent territory.
Therein lies the dilemma and challenge for Rauner: How do you shore up the right flank and run to the middle at the same time?
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Apr 24, 18 @ 10:00 am:
What’s also so pathetic in this…
Ives and Proft want to “Kirk” Rauner… you have McCann sitting out there until he isn’t, you have Labor even more mobilized, it appears, than at this time for Mendoza when she beat Munger…
Rauner “needs” to shore up his Right, while after primaries, you’re “suppose” to race to the Center… and Rauner’s Crew rolls this website out without comprehending that Rauner has no constituency, conservatives want Rauner “Kirked”, Labor wants Rauner gone, and it’s a possible blue wave election, and Rauner won’t even breathe the word Trump…
…
and this website is one of the answers?
I’ve seen more effort from Crews going thru the motions.

I’ve written off the possibility that Rauner gets elected. And the Madigan message is old. Still there, but not enough to give him a chance at another term.
- Thomas - Tuesday, Apr 24, 18 @ 10:17 am:
Rauner has lost all credibility. And it’s almost impossible to get it back.
- Honeybear - Tuesday, Apr 24, 18 @ 10:25 am:
Point 1
Hardly anyone goes to websites anymore.
This is a dog whistle
Point 2
Rauner needs to be training canvassers
That’s what Afscme is doing
That’s what Seiu is doing
That’s what Usw is doing
That’s what Ift is doing
Rauner has a labor phalanx
Marching right at him
Neighbor to neighbor
Hand to hand
Every door
Category I-V
Everyone
Pritzker can handle 3’s
Labor will knock on every door
Because if you’re conservative
We’ve got your option
Have fun with the social media
College republicans love it
Meanwhile labor will have already
Gone through the neighborhood
Twice

Keep plugging, and recognizing how McCann fits into the puzzle and doesn’t gum up the works, solid work, while being focused at the true task at hand.
McCann will need (if he gets to run) to work on the flippant responses, by stopping them entirely.
Be “Sam”, but recognize the words can cut both ways, especially the flippant remarks to seem “smart” to the moment.
Be well, - Honeybear -

You lie to the right flank and you lie to middle. It might not work as well this time around though, at least with the middle…..
With few exceptions, the right seems to embrace lying and hipocrisy as platform planks. The middle tends to be slightly more tethered to reality, which doesn’t bode well for Rauner.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Apr 24, 18 @ 10:36 am:
===You lie to the right flank===
Jeanne Ives… she got 48%… as a far right back bench state representative, against a sitting governor.
Rauner lying to conservatives, signing HB40, signing what is wrongly called a “sanctuary state” bill… Rauner hasn’t only lied to the base, Rauner flat out betrayed the base, according to actual conservatives (Don’t ask phonies like Mr. Breen or Mr. Wehrli).
Or… ask Blase Cardinal Cupich.

Another anti-Madigan website. Uh, thanks, Gov. Gaslight. I guess.

Not sure I like the choice of “insiders”, but if the choice is between nasty mean spirited insider with few accomplishments and a kind of a happy insider with some new ideas, I think a lot of folks will go with Mr. Happy.
Also think Pritzker will not having any issues with “standing up” to Mike Madigan on issues he believes in or opposing things he feels are not in the State’s best interest. His history has been to be very aggressive on issues he supports.

Yeah, that’s my point. Websites like this fire up the base, but the base ain’t nearly enough.

Rauner could start shoring up the conservative base by vetoing all gun control legislation that hits his desk. Southern IL might actually come back into play for him.

Rauner’s attacks are apparently falling flat again, per this latest poll showing him trailing Pritzker by 18 points.
