Today, Conservative Party gubernatorial candidate Sam McCann released a video introducing voters to running mate Aaron Merreighn. The video focuses on Merreighn’s family, upbringing, military service and political platform.
“I’m excited to introduce the people of Illinois to Aaron Merreighn, a man who has dedicated his life to helping others and serving his country,” said McCann. “I am proud to call him my running mate and I will be even prouder to call him Lieutenant Governor.”
McCann contrasted Merreighn’s military service with Governor Rauner’s failure to respond to the 13 fatal cases of Legionnaire’s Disease at the Quincy Veterans Home, and Rauner’s inability to release a plan to prevent it from happening again. Merreighn served five tours of duty as a Marine.
“As a veteran, Aaron has committed to giving our heroes the respect and care they’ve earned,” said McCann. “One of the reasons I chose Aaron as a running mate was to give Illinois veterans relief from the deplorable treatment they’ve received from Governor Rauner, whose catastrophic response to the fatal outbreak at the Quincy Veterans Home is an insult to every American who has ever worn a military uniform.”
“Aaron’s commitment to veterans and strong work ethic are what Illinois needs,” McCann continued. “Aaron is a proven leader who has served his country as a Marine, his community as a volunteer firefighter, and his state as a proud state worker.”
They claim to support state works and balanced budgets. How can that happen for a “conservative” party? What mechanisms and math do you use to do that? Eh, brother?
It does exactly what this candidacy is designed to do;
Remind central Illinois, pro-life, pro-2A, pro-labor Republicans that McCann is them… and Rauner failed conservatives/central/downstate Illinois voters.
Not sure how you picked up on “They claim to support state works and balanced budgets”, from this. The priorities of McCann’s campaign are pretty clear economic liberty, traditional values, fight illegal immigration, repeal tax increase, support 2A, and support LEO’s. As for union workers McCann is clearly looking to court the trades rather not the public unions.

A state worker, raised by two state workers talking about being conservative and “family values”. Yep, these people certainly exist, and they’re the stereo type must Democrats view Republicans as.
Pretty good ad. Hits the things they want voters to know, and the differences between themselves and the other guys. Not a bad introduction . B (A little drawn out.)
Where did you get all that from? McCann wants to get even with Brucey because of the nastiness last cycle. Ok, fine. He’s using conservative’s hyper polarization to con them. Sam is many things…but a budget hawk, he is not. He can’t be its a fact of life if you represent a large amount of state workers you can’t advocate for whacking their benefits or their employment. As others noted he is strongly supported by public labor.

Let’s make history and elected the first guy with a neck tattoo to run our state.

A lot to unpack in a 2/5 minute video, but really, “Make Illinois great again” tells you all you need to know about this effort.

They won’t win, but will attract some votes from individuals like me that won’t vote for either if the two million $guys.

Tell that to IEA, AFSCME and SEIU members that circulate his petitions for him every cycle.

So if they tell you how, would you support them? Or do you think only you have all the answers?
