Mixed messages
Friday, Jun 8, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * This is an odd tweet for a couple of reasons…
First, as we discussed a few days ago, I can’t see how an online petition will do much of anything besides gather names for a campaign database. It’s a phony “issue” because the FBI surveillance tapes were sealed by a federal judge, who is now retired. And, anyway, who are they gonna submit their “petition” to? I’m thinking nobody. But, hey, maybe people will talk about it. They did the same thing during the primary, by the way. This is yet another Blagojevich-related primary tactic reboot by Team Rauner. Second, what’s with the mixed messages? They’re combining the Rod tapes with “no balanced budget = no pay for legislators” thing? This has to be a clerical error because the governor just signed a budget that wasn’t technically balanced. …Adding… They took down the tweet. Must’ve been the mistake I pointed out. I saved it, though…

My guess is that the tweet is sharing a webpage with Twitter meta tags.
The “no balanced budget” thing is probably (for whatever reason) embedded in the source code of the page as a Twitter meta tag.
Just a guess. But I know I’ve had similar issues when I’ve tried to include a webpage in a tweet.

If Rauner wants to start unsealing court records, he can start with his own
- Not It - Friday, Jun 8, 18 @ 10:15 am:
C’mon, Rich! You’re applying logic to campaign strategy when all know the best strategy is the one with the better polling.
How many mailers has DPI sent out about social security?

What happens when a free Rod starts talking about his JB conversations? Rod can say JB said just about anything and it might be plausible.

trying the ol’ sign this meaningless petition demanding something to which you have no legal right strategy. Classic Bruce.
- allknowingmasterofracoondom - Friday, Jun 8, 18 @ 10:19 am:
Ready, fire, aim. Nice job to the Rauner campaign team.
- Arsenal - Friday, Jun 8, 18 @ 10:24 am:
I dunno, meaningless petitions are a pretty big part of campaigns now. I’m just struggling to figure out who will be really motivated to sign such a petition that isn’t already on Rauner’s list.

That, and crank up innuendo and speculation.
Blago wants all the tapes released, too. If I were Rauner, I’d be very careful on being on the same side as any question with Blago.

Agreed, but, OTOH, Blago doesn’t always know what’s good for him.

Is this a thing you honestly believe? This isn’t snark, it’s nonsense. There has never been a balanced budget in the state’s history and there never will be. We get the government we deserve. Every time you don’t move or run for office, you consent.

Jail cover, team Rauner drops any more tapes the Feds will notice
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 8, 18 @ 10:37 am:
Rauner signing an unbalanced budget with the 32% tax increase he says is unneeded and unwarranted, and no reforms…
…
Rauner has “earned” his $1 pay this year.
Hmm.
- Cheryl44 - Friday, Jun 8, 18 @ 10:46 am:
Would anyone believe anything Rod says?
- SSL - Friday, Jun 8, 18 @ 10:49 am:
So Rauner’s grandstanding and talking out of both sides of his mouth. We’ve never seen that in an Illinois politician before have we?
There’s enough warts on both these guys to make a toad jealous. Neither can fix what’s wrong with this state.

Well, they took down the tweet, so I must’ve been right.

JB start the unseal Rauner campaign, what is he hiding from voters
- The Captain - Friday, Jun 8, 18 @ 12:52 pm:
People are ragging on Rauner for recycling all these old ads and tactics but honestly I’m impressed with their restraint. By now I expected him to be running all his old anti-Quinn stuff, just to get that old feeling back.
