Already ahead of the national average, Illinois is poised to add more women legislators this year

And yet, on the surface at least, I don’t ever think I’ve seen women legislators more divided than they are now in Illinois. As subscribers know, the bipartisan, bicameral Conference of Women Legislators has been disbanded. The Senate now has a bipartisan group, but Democratic women in the House have formed their own, separate organization which has had a hiccup or two so far. Maybe these are just growing pains, or a sign of a much more divisive era (both at the state and national levels). And it’s their shops, so they get to call the shots. I’m not trying to be critical here, I’m just kinda lamenting the apparent loss of legislative comity.

I don’t think it is surprising at all. When women were few, it made sense to band together for a variety of reasons. As the numbers expand to the point where they have real power it would make sense that the ideological difference would become more important. Perhaps at some point there will be a “Male Caucus”; won’t that be the day. Not to be sexist but its perhaps time for the women to clean up the mess the men left.

hanging out with Ives would not be my interest. Dems only. but also tired of so many female pols claiming they are peace loving/no war because they are women (tell that to the former fighter pilots running for Congress in Ky and Tex), or that “we’re mothers” so xyz, cause not all women are mothers. it’s well past time that everyone was judged by their thinking, not their body parts.

Yep. A symptom of the breakdown of political civility in our nation and state and not really related to the #metoo phenomenon.

No more musicals? Maybe they realized that the departure of BFC and her feather boas was more of a loss than they first thought.
(CoWL was always far more than the shows, but the shows were great fun)

But interestingly, there will be fewer Women in the Senate GOP Caucus next year than there were in the 1990s.

Amalia, don’t disagree with how you feel about Ives, but it’s unfortunate that your views on retired military officers running for office are so one-dimensional. Quite often people who have seen the horror of war first hand have more finely tuned opinions than those who have seen it from an armchair watching CNN.

Arthur are you mansplaining? Amelia never said anything specifically about military, she was comparing the sterotypes women deal with daily in this world and said she’d much prefer all to be considered by their backgrounds/voices rather than stereotypes.
