    ===but there’s a time and a place.===

… when I won’t made to feel uncomfortable or be embarrassed?

    Right? Exactly right.

    “Let them eat cake”

  2. - Colin O'Scopy - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 9:40 am:

    Rauner’s schedule for protesters:

    Time: anytime
    place: anyplace*.
    *Caveat: where I am not.

  3. - Trapped in the 'bubs - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 9:42 am:

Why don’t these people understand? Everything I do is for them. Madigan is to blame.

  4. - wondering - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 9:48 am:

He is right……his time is gone, his place is out of state government.

  5. - Perrid - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 9:53 am:

There are many ways and times you can protest, you don’t have to interrupt other people’s events. Heck, you could go to this thing and chant and scream before and after all the speeches and everything, pass out pamphlets, wave signs, whatever, you don’t have to interrupt his speech itself. Making a nuisance of yourself to get attention may be the whole point of protesting, but again, you can do it without being too big of an a**.

sorry meant to have it start here….https://youtu.be/fiSh_Ti80ng?t=2m22s

  8. - 360 Degree TurnAround - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 9:56 am:

The Sierra club is the one that should be protesting. Look at all the trees and gardens he ripped out.

  9. - Roadrager - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 9:57 am:

“As a person in a high level of power, the only good and effective protests are the ones I don’t have to see or hear or ever be asked any questions about.”

  10. - wordslinger - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 9:57 am:

–* So, um, what would be a good “time and place” for a protest, governor?–

When he’s not around and no one’s lookin’?

Let’s get our priorities straight: There’s a time and place to advocate for child care for the working poor, and then there’s a time and place to bow and scrape when the Rauners do their “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” taping.

Know your time and place, proles.

==There are many ways and times you can protest, you don’t have to interrupt other people’s events.==

The person being protested against doesn’t get to dictate the terms.

  12. - Macbeth - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:00 am:

Last time I checked, the “freedom of speech” thing didn’t have time and place and hours of operation disclaimers.

  13. - PJ - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:01 am:

    ==you don’t have to interrupt other people’s events==

Always my favorite take on protests. “You could protest in a basement, or in an empty parking lot!”

  14. - VanillaMan - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:02 am:

Bruce means that the protests should have been held during the Quinn administration.

  15. - Perrid - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:04 am:

@Macbeth, that’s a bit of a red herring. Saying you can legally do something is not the same as saying you should actually do it.

  16. - Anon221 - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:05 am:

“We consider the Governor’s Mansion the People’s House,” Gov. Rauner said.

    https://tinyurl.com/y7pyt3rn

But, only if you are one of the Rauners’ people??? It won’t be the last protest there. Guess they’ll have to start spendin’ more time on the back porch. /s

  17. - Jocko - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:07 am:

    Time: never
    Place: location inaccessible and unreported

  18. - Omay - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:09 am:

Guessing we didn’t see those arrows comin’.

Ladies and gentleman, the star of the new Marvel franchise, “Ironic Man.”

  20. - BlueDogDem - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:14 am:

I guess it’s ok to drop off a toilet at someone’s house or private residence but you can’t peacefully protest outside a govt building. Is this the definition of a hypocrite?

  21. - Macbeth - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:16 am:

Saying you can legally do something is not the same as saying you should actually do it.

    Agreed.

But I’m not about to align my moral compass to Bruce Rauner (or Donald Trump).

So to their inidividual (or collective) moralities, I say: Meh.

  22. - Anon24 - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:23 am:

I cannot wait. CANNOT. WAIT. Until November. Although I’m unhappy with the gubernatorial candidate options, Rauner sets the bar quite low for the next gov’ to be “better”.

  23. - Henry Francis - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:25 am:

    How very de-classe.

  24. - decaturbob - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:26 am:

Why is it the first response by MOST republicans is to shutdown free speech?

  25. - Rabid - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:35 am:

Rauner draws the wrong crowd in public, go back to hiding in schools and factories no more public events for the unwashed

  26. - Macbeth - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:35 am:

Yeah, they probably should take Kafka’s leopards-in-the-temple approach: “Leopards break into the temple and drink all the sacrificial vessels dry; it keeps happening; in the end, it can be calculated in advance and is incorporated into the ritual.”

  27. - Precinct Captain - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 11:11 am:

Millions upon millions so the guy can live it up in another mansion. All the while, the governor stood idly as our vets in Quincy died one by one due to his mismanagement. Sickening.

  28. - Whatever - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 11:13 am:

==So, um, what would be a good “time and place” for a protest, governor?==

Dan Ryan, during rush hour. And, when you’re painting your signs, remember the name is spelled “Raum.”

  29. - Arthur Andersen - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 11:34 am:

Whatever, but only on the shoulder and far right lane, okay?

  30. - Arsenal - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 12:14 pm:

==I guess it’s ok to drop off a toilet at someone’s house or private residence but you can’t peacefully protest outside a govt building. Is this the definition of a hypocrite?==

To be fair, Rauner completely forgot about the toilet thing about 10 days ago.

  31. - Anon - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 12:41 pm:

    Rauner doesn’t get it.

Anywhere he is for the rest of his life is the appropriate time and place. He wrecked this state.

  32. - Illanoyed - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 1:05 pm:

I’d take Rauner over Pritzker any day of the week/month/year/decade/century…at least Rauner tries to fight against the “progressive machine”.

  33. - Joe Bidenopolous - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 1:42 pm:

===Why is it the first response by MOST republicans is to shutdown free speech?===

Because in the free marketplace of ideas, their ideas are generally unpopular. Which, you know, is really ironic considering their alleged devotion to free marketplaces, but whatever. Better for them to shut down dissenting voices.

  34. - Lester Holt’s Mustache - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 3:48 pm:

==at least Rauner tries to fight against the “progressive machine==

After signing HB40, sanctuary state bill, a gun control bill today and oh yeah wasting $12 Billion of taxpayer money that we didnt have, Rauner -is- the progressive machine. But by all means enlighten us more, oh wise one.

  35. - Saluki - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 5:54 pm:

I agree with Rauner. Let the guy have 1 day. Sheesh…

  36. - wordslinger - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 5:59 pm:

–I agree with Rauner. Let the guy have 1 day. Sheesh…–

Ia that some sort of entitlement program? The Give Up the First Amendment for Bruce Act?

One day, my tukkus. You Weepin’ Victims never take a day off.

  37. - SaulGoodman - Monday, Jul 16, 18 @ 10:23 pm:

**I agree with Rauner. Let the guy have 1 day.**

Which would be one more day than many of the children Rauner kicked out of the child care program get, so no thanks.
