*** UPDATED x1 *** “Rauner attended the same event with Wilson last year, when cash was also handed out”
Monday, Jul 23, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * From today’s press gaggle about the Willie Wilson event…
* Tina Sfondeles and Mitch Dudek for the Sun-Times…
Uh-oh. *** UPDATE *** Video clip from the last such event, on January 15, 2018: “I’m honored, I’m honored to be here with Dr. Wilson to support those of you who need help paying your property taxes. I’m happy to chip in and I’ll chip in in the future”…
YouTube wasn’t processing the video for some reason, so I had to post it on the Twitter machine. …Adding… YouTube link is finally working. Click here.

How long until Rauner calls Wilson and asks him to stop talking to the press about this?
- I Miss Bentohs - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:04 pm:
If this is truthful reporting, Rauner should be removed from the ballot.
- Macbeth - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:04 pm:
Hey, man, this is weird from all angles.
I mean, this isn’t like some sack of cash that fell off a Brinks truck.
This is, like, politicians going into churches and handing out cash? I can’t even wrap my head around it.
*pause*
But someone should ask Rauner when the next event is gonna happen. I mean, I’d like to be there to get some cash.
- Soccermom - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:04 pm:
This is getting really good.
How much would it cost to put have one of those “money grab” machines follow Rauner around?
- Soccermom - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:05 pm:
JB, don’t try to thank me.

Rauner’s Sgt. Schultz costume is getting a real workout today.
- Nick Name - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:23 pm:
Dear JB,
You know how Rauner hauls a toilet around the state? Well I do NOT recommend that you haul cash around the state as tit-for-tat. Get my drift?
- PJ - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:24 pm:
Pairs nicely with Rauner saying today that if this isn’t a campaign finance violation, “it should be”.
- JS Mill - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:26 pm:
Ruh Roh. Seems that the governor’s response posted on an earlier thread was rightfully met with doubt.
If this was the first year, maybe. Probably not, but maybe.
Now I am calling “pants on fire”.
- Whatever - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:28 pm:
He should have given out gift cards to the Speaker’s law firm.
- VanillaMan - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:36 pm:
Running his campaign like he has run our state - right into the side of a mountain.
LOL - all day long.

The height of corruption
- Ok - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:40 pm:
In 2014, Rauner pioneered the “say anything you want and facts dont matter” school of campaigns. Why would he have changed?
- Albany Park Patriot - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:44 pm:
I can’t believe this could be legal, but it’s Illinois after all. Whether or not it’s legal, I think most normal people would agree it’s not ethical.
- Moby - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:52 pm:
So, just so I’m losing my mind…not only did Rauner say this type of activity is wrong, but he claimed he knew nothing about it? And then the video….
- 47th Ward - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:53 pm:
The ham-handedness of the political pandering is reminiscent of Pat Quinn while the absurd lying denials and feigned ignorance of the facts are almost an homage to Donald Trump.
He is really terrible at politics. He should have stayed in the private sector, where open deceit and incompetence are rewarded.
- Archpundit - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 3:57 pm:
I just figured he stepped on his own message again, but he actually been a part of this before…Everytime I think he’s screwed up more than I could possibly imagine, Rauner proves to me he is a creative genius at screwing up.
- Archpundit - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 4:00 pm:
==JB, don’t try to thank me.
This should be a campaign meme by now!
- JS Mill - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 4:02 pm:
@47 =He is really terrible at politics.=
Not just politics, he stinks at government.
=Pairs nicely with Rauner saying today that if this isn’t a campaign finance violation, “it should be”.=
This ad literally writes itself.
=How much would it cost to put have one of those “money grab” machines follow Rauner around?=
Could it feature an Evelyn Sanguinetti and Leslie Munger look-a-likes (on alternating days) grabbing the money?
- don the legend - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 4:04 pm:
Rich many thanks for being on top of this.
Now, the damage done depends on TV, radio and newspapers giving it adequate coverage so the rest of the non Capitofax public see it hear about and talk about it
OR
JB running a few million in ads.
- Wensicia - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 4:21 pm:
Perhaps Rauner and Wilson were playing liar’s poker with the congregation. /s
- VanillaMan - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 4:56 pm:
ILGOP simply cannot survive a Rauner reelection. His flagrant incompetence in governing and campaigning is like an incurable virus.
- Arthur Andersen - Monday, Jul 23, 18 @ 5:22 pm:
JSM, I feel obliged to point out on behalf of my friend OW that Evelyn would likely slip and fall in the cash machine, with probable consequences. Better stick with the Wingman.

The fact that politicians are handing out cash for support does not surprise me. It has happened in every election. The fact that Rauner lied about it does not surprise me. He lies about everything, has since he ran the first time.
What amazes me is the amount handed out. Is this the going rate in Chicago? Either they have raised the bar considerably, or this is another example of how depressed the economy down on this end of the State is. And this is just July. If they pass out this much cash now, what will they be paying for early voting? How much is the going rate for absentees up there? The people who attended this walked out with handfuls of cash with just a promise to support Wilson and Rauner. They didnt even have to get in a van and go vote.
No wonder we only havd Billionaires running for Governor now. Who else can compete at these prices.
