Because… Madigan!

* From US Rep. Peter Roskam’s campaign…
Madigan puppet Sean Casten pledged his full loyalty to the Illinois Speaker this week by entering into a new joint fundraising agreement with Mike Madigan and the Illinois Democratic Party to set up a K Street operation.
Casten for Congress and Mike Madigan joined forces to funnel more funding into the Casten campaign, signing the fundraising agreement on September 12, 2018. This should come as no surprise since earlier this year, Casten stood with Madigan in defiant opposition to a property tax freeze that would have protected Sixth District residents from the ever-growing, out-of-control property taxes imposed by Madigan and Illinois Democrats.
“Casten already mirrored all of Madigan’s views in raising taxes on Illinoisans and blocking bipartisanship, but now Casten has committed to accept Madigan’s money and do his bidding,” said Roskam for Congress Veronica Vera. “The last thing the Sixth District needs is a carbon copy of Mike Madigan representing them in Congress.”
The federal paperwork is here.
* I asked the Casten campaign for a response…
This is rich coming from an ethically challenged Congressman like Peter Roskam who sits behind the desk of disgraced Congressman and child abuser Dennis Hastert. Peter Roskam can’t run on his own record, so he concocts these absurd attacks against his opponent - as pointed out by Crain’s and the Better Government Association. The Illinois Republican Party, Paul Ryan, the Koch Brothers, and numerous other beneficiaries of his $2 trillion deficit busting tax scam have all been helping Peter Roskam - and despite spending millions pushing false allegations against Sean, the truth is voters aren’t buying it.”
To date, four key political prognosticators like Cook Political Report, Inside Elections, Election Projection, and Larry Sabato all list this race a toss-up. And the New York Times latest public polling confirms that.

Dennis Hastert’s desk?
If that’s the logic we get to use to describe someone, can we please have a little fun here, today?

I saw Congressman Roskam last Saturday walking in downtown Naperville. He looked like a candidate who knew the end was near.

“Because… Madigan” has rocketed Rauner to a consistent 30% or so in the polls in recent months.
- Wow - Friday, Sep 14, 18 @ 11:50 am:
The blue wave will extend way into Naperville/Wheaton area. Roskam is in trouble.

Not that consistent… last poll had him at 27.
I wonder who on Roskam’s team looked at that and said “Gonna get us some of that!” Because honestly, Roskam’s campaign is hitting all the same notes as Rauner’s.

=Dennis Hastert’s desk?=
Castens version of “Because Madigan’
- TominChicago - Friday, Sep 14, 18 @ 11:55 am:
I have to think that voters have become pretty calloused to the “Because Madigan” defense to everything. It has basically become white noise for the ILGOP.
- SSL - Friday, Sep 14, 18 @ 12:02 pm:
Roskam is getting desperate. While Madigan is toxic, and deservedly so, there is a lack of energy for Roskam, while Casten has his base excited.
All this glee with the positive polls for JB, Kwame and others will be short lived. These guys have zero skill in navigating the mess that is Illinois.
It would be extremely difficult for intelligent and skilled people to move Illinois forward. For the Madigan cabal it is impossible.

Roskam blames Casten for high property taxes. But it was the tax bill Roskam supported that capped the deduction of property and income taxes at $10,000. There are certainly residents of the 6th district who pay more than 10 grand a year in property and income taxes, but now they won’t be able to deduct the whole amount from their federal tax liability.

The SALT love limits on tax deductions have me conflicted. I think it is good national policy, but it hurts me personally.
Same goes for a higher state income tax. Fortunately I can still be squeezed a bit before I crack.
- Annoyance - Friday, Sep 14, 18 @ 12:51 pm:
SALT limitation = no schedule A deductions (mortgage interest / charity deductions, taxes are gone) with the removal of exception = higher taxes for the majority of 6th congressional district period and thanks to the 5 year elimination every year there after so PR’s commercial should be: I consistently was on WGN and told them the States will just have to cut taxes or the tax payers will vote a candidate out(with a laugh). “Guess he was right ” funny seems tax payers prefer good schools, public safety…, to a third world nation.

Yeah - “good national policy” to treat investment in local public infrastructure as a luxury. SALT limitation is right up there with Make Asbestos Great Again.
- Chicago Cynic - Friday, Sep 14, 18 @ 1:44 pm:
Roskam is running scared…with good reason. And I get the “but Madigan” approach to a district that probably hates him more than average. Just can’t see that it sticks given no previous connection between entrepreneur Casten and Speaker Madigan.
- Soccermom - Friday, Sep 14, 18 @ 1:54 pm:
If I were Roskam, I would NEVER mention the words “property tax” again, given that he totally screwed his constituents by capping the federal deduction for state and local taxes.
- Soccermom - Friday, Sep 14, 18 @ 1:56 pm:
Honeybadger: YOU SAW ROSKAM IN THE DISTRICT AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ANYBODY? ARE YOU KIDDING???
- HawkeyeForEver - Friday, Sep 14, 18 @ 2:04 pm:
Roskam’s been banging the “in lockstep with Mike Madigan” drum for months now. I can’t see that it is getting him anywhere.
I’m not sure if Casten campaigners highlighting Roskam’s link to Hastert’s desk will get anywhere, either. It seems like dislike for Trump is what is going to cause people to vote Roskam out, but they show creativity in putting “Roskam” and “child abuser” in the same sentence.
- DuPage - Friday, Sep 14, 18 @ 2:23 pm:
There are many people in Roskam’s district that are upset about him not even trying to fight the SALT provision. I always thought he would never have to worry about losing an election, but this time he has good reason to worry.
