ARE THE DEMOCRATS’ BIG LEADS IN IL-GOV AND MI-GOV PUTTING MORE HOUSE SEATS IN PLAY?
Speaking of leading gubernatorial candidates pulling the rest of their ticket, don’t lose sight of how Democrats running ahead in the GOV contests in Illinois and Michigan are making House races in those states much more difficult for Republicans. In Illinois, think IL-6, IL-12, IL-13 and IL-14. … Just something to keep an eye on…
That would be Peter Roskam, Mike Bost, Rodney Davis and Randy Hultgren.
If that Hultgren race tightens up, watch out, GOP.
* Speaking of the Bost campaign…
End Citizens United (ECU) today launched two new TV ads in IL-12. “Crisis” shines a light on campaign contributions Rep. Mike Bost has taken from drug companies that are profiting from the opioid crisis and the tax break he gave big pharma in Congress. While “Leadership” focuses on Brendan Kelly’s record as a State Attorney in Illinois where he fought corruption and was the first attorney in the state to sue Big Pharma for its role in opioid epidemic.
The ads, titled “Crisis” and “Leadership,” are part of a $594,000 ad campaign that includes television ads, digital ads, and direct mail. […]
The $594,000 ad buy includes: $306,000 in broadcast and cable television ads, which will run from September 26-October 8; $60,000 in digital ads; and $228,000 in direct mail.
Not sure if Rauner is hurting these candidates, but he sure as heck ain’t helping. At least with the Trump effect, his brainless followers will come out to vote for Rs up and down the ballot. They are motivated voters, howling at the moon.
Who does Rauner motivate? He’s just an anchor, another obstacle to overcome for guys like Davis and Bost.
I’d love for it to get to the point where we see Bost/McCann signs. That would make me happy.
== Rauner sure as heck ain’t going to be driving positive GOP turnout. ==
Maybe … a fair amount of the GOP I know will be showing up to vote against Rauner and for McCann. That could help down list non-Raunerite GOP candidates.
Hard to tell which Republicans are affecting voters negatively. Given the wide national dialogue due to multiple women coming forward with sexual assault allegations involving Kavanaugh, the ick factor from the R side is vast. lots of Blue Wave talk. it is probably not just about Rauner.
= think the Dems antics regarding the Kavanaugh situation has many GOPers fired up.=
Slowing things down a bit to investigate serious allegations are now “antics?” How’s that going to play out with suburban women voters? Or voters period for that matter who see this guy rushed through?

Charlie Cook weighs in below on how turnout drives off-prez elections.
With a 26% approval rating and 30% in the gov. race polls, Rauner sure as heck ain’t going to be driving positive GOP turnout.

Tough to see Rauner helping in any way, obviously.
Rauner could effect turnout… and not in a good way for all down ballot races.
Why do i day that?
See anyone campaigning with Rauner?

Rauner has always been divorced from Washington and has been anti-Trump from 2015 until his sudden conversion this month.
He’ll have a slight negative impact, but that’s all.

Agree with RNUG. McCann while hurting Rauner, will help the GOP in the 4 races in question.

Not if he can’t get on TV.
I mean, the dude’s not even running ads on Facebook.

A signed, sworn statement alleging gang rape by Kavanaugh and his bros is not an antic. It’s a very serious and credible allegation.
And if you don’t think GOP persistence in confirming him won’t fire up Dems to get out and vote, you’re not paying attention.

True. Moore wasn’t on the cusp of a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.

Maybe not push ads, but both his personal FB page and his campaign FB page are quite active.
