Today, Erika Harold’s campaign for Attorney General is launching a new TV ad titled “Reality.”
Erika Harold knows what it’s like to feel marginalized and powerless. In high school, Erika was the victim of bullying and sexual harassment. That experience of powerlessness is why Erika wanted to become an attorney - to acquire the skills to stand up not only for herself but also for others.
Erika Harold: When I was in high school, #MeToo wasn’t a slogan. It was my reality.
I overcame bullying and sexual harassment with my parents support, but too many women and children suffer alone, unseen or ignored by those in power.
I’m Erika Harold. I won’t rest until we shut down every human sex trafficking ring in Illinois, put every child predator behind bars, and make sure every victim of sexual harassment and assault knows the Attorney General has their back.
In the realm of electing an AG based on what we “think” they do vs. what the job actually entails its very good. It was also smart to get this out now considering the parties current standing with women voters. Although I’m not sure it’s enough to overcome the damage that’s being done. A bit ironic to hear her talk about bullying considering the President’s treatment of Ms. Ford last night.
I’m confused. Would she still have my back if I’m a victim of sexual assault and gay?
To the rating: This hit me funny, maybe due to the Kavanaugh scandal, which has put me in a mood. I can’t help thinking that my State’s Attorney is more relevant to me in such a matter. And after taking off points for her jumping on an obvious bandwagon, seeming to suggest that her empathy might only arise because of her personal experience, and her inconsistent values, I guess I’d give it about a “C” at best.
Extremely dangerous rhetoric. The #MeToo movement lowers the standards of evidence and due process. Likewise, the elimination of human rights problems isn’t the job description. Horrifically, the solution proposed is to lower the standards of evidence and due process?
What part of a black young lady in East Central IL was bullied would trigger the “hard to believe” response? Poke some holes in your jar and get some air.

==Extremely dangerous rhetoric.==
What part of Ms. Harold’s ad says she plans to lower the “standards of evidence and due process”?
Look, it’s a great ad because it’s her best argument. Why in the world would anyone vote for a GOP social conservative in a blue state in 2018? Well, if you think she feels #MeToo in her bones, and will do something about it, then maybe yes. Almost indisputable that she’d be all over this topic more than Raoul.

==It sounds like she’s running for Batgirl.==
Maybe Rauner should have tried to be Batman instead of Governor. He could have spent the last four years driving a cool car, running around in costumes all day, instead of negotiating with Madigan and the General Assembly and Senate.

And the AG prosecutes these cases upon what authority?
- RNUG - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 1:13 pm:
Wasn’t this one of Lisa’s themes also?

Very powerful, emotional promise to take on issues that the Illinois AG does not have the slightest authority, power or resources to deal with.
Historically, a pretty standard Illinois AG spot.
- Henry Francis - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 1:22 pm:
Can she point to her work as a private attorney where she was an advocate for those sorts of issues?
I would think if she could, she would have told us about them in the commercial.
- @misterjayem - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 1:23 pm:
I’d really like to believe her use of the word “human” was unnecessary.

So, the first question at her next presser should be about Kavanaugh?

Thank you.

I’m not planning to vote for her, but that was a superb ad. It will help her find some more votes for sure.
- Name/Nickname/Anon - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 2:37 pm:
Harassed- yes, that’s believable and humanizes her.
But it’s not exactly relatable when Miss USA tells you she was bullied.
She should have run for a lower office before she ran for AG. Awful timing to do it too.
- AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 2:41 pm:
Does that include the child predators she hands children over to instead of a loving gay couple?

Why is that? I don’t see the connection you’re making.
- West Sider - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 3:08 pm:
Meh. “Me Too was my reality” Really? How? I’m not saying she doesn’t have a story- only that’s not it.

It doesn’t matter how pretty, talented, funny, charismatic you are as a kid…a Black girl growing up in Central Illinois is gonna catch hell in school.

And because of her experiences feeling marginalized she became … a corporate lawyer.
Erika is an empty suit.

It sounds like she’s running for Batgirl. If so, she has my vote. AG is a different story.
