Pritzker outspending Rauner on Facebook by more than 12 to 1

Tuesday, Oct 23, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Facebook has a search function that allows you to look up how much each candidate has spent on FB ads since the company started keeping track in May of this year. As of today the totals are

JB For Governor/Rauner Failed Me: $2,120,937

Citizens for Rauner: $168,690

Those totals include a small number of ads that weren’t officially labeled.

* With that in mind…

Today, the Pritzker campaign released a new digital ad, “Blame Game,” highlighting the man who can do no wrong… according to himself.

It stars Bruce Rauner and features the various ways he’s blamed others for his failures. From the dismal state of the state to the school funding crisis to his fatal mismanagement in Quincy, Bruce Rauner claims he’s “not in charge” while Illinoisans pay the price.

* The ad

* Script…

Voiceover: Bruce Rauner. The man who can do no wrong, according to himself.

Rauner: I am not in charge, I’m trying to get to be in charge.

Anchor: He insists he’s not to blame.

Voiceover: The Blame Game, starring Bruce Rauner.

Rauner: I did not create the school funding formula.

On Screen: Rauner blames schools, still no budget [The Daily Eastern News, 1/21/16]

Reporter: No matter the question, Governor Rauner kept referring back to one thing.

On Screen: One Guess Who Rauner is Blaming for the State of the State [Crain’s Chicago Business, 1/30/18]

Reporter: The Rauner administration trying to pass blame for the legionella outbreaks.

On Screen: Who’s Up Next in the Rauner Blame Game? [WGN Radio, 1/18/15]

Rauner: And, uh, we would not do anything different.

Voiceover: Bruce Rauner. Four years of failure is enough.

When I get ready in the morning, I go to YouTube for music. JB clips come up all the time.

  2. - anon2 - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:07 pm:

Refusing to admit mistakes is one way Rauner is like Trump.

  3. - Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:09 pm:

Read the comments after his Facebook posts, the unfavorables far outweigh the positives.

Almost like Governor Rauner posts on Cap Fax

    Spotify is lousy with
    JB Ads !

  5. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:09 pm:

Not sure if it is YouTube, Twitch or both, but OneSon has seen a ton of JB ads.

===Almost like Governor Rauner posts on Cap Fax===

Outside of “here”, do you play a victim in all you do?

  7. - Huh? - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:16 pm:

For anybody else, I would have said “That has to sting.” Unfortunately, the ad is against 1.4% who deflects any and all blame for his own failings as governor.

  8. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:18 pm:

This is the “bread and butter”, running off-tackle for a 4 year gain, 4:30 left in the game, just pounding the off-tackle because they can’t stop the play.

  9. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:19 pm:

Unfortunatey for you, the people who comment on a Facebook ad are not a representative sample.

  10. - Boone's is Back - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:21 pm:

I guess the Pritzker campaign won’t be going with the traditional “positive close.”

I gotta say though, the chocolate milk at the end is pretty hilarious.

  11. - DuPage Bard - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:25 pm:

That’s funny stuff right there. Reminds me of the old Full House opening or Family Matters.

JB is cruising for this now. He needs to solidify down ticket and lock up the AG race. At this point if he doesn’t get super majority and the AG he’s going to have some very tough battles as Erika pushes her AG opinions against every policy that JB and the legislature put forward.
It’s cool to win big while thinking big but if you don’t have back up you’re going to have a problem.

  12. - Nacho - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:31 pm:

Still think the “I’m not in charge” quote is more effective if you cut it off right there but still a strong ad.

  13. - Anon221 - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:36 pm:

OW- Is this an offshoot of “Dad’s Home State”?;)

  14. - Cheryl44 - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 1:36 pm:

It makes far more sense to run ads where people will actually see/hear them than on traditional media.

I’m not on Facebook (I don’t feel like being stalked by work) so the only time I see these ads are here or when I get to watch Jeopardy! the one weekday a week I’m home at 3:30.

Robert the Bruce’s offspring, ineligible to vote due to age, are subject to the Pritzker ads while watching cartoons on youtube. I haven’t heard a Rauner one yet there.

It’s a spin-off, but the Pritzker Crew bought the rights right out from under me.

Probably a reason I’m so salty.

    :)

You shoulda had a lawyer help you lock those rights down. I hear Shay Allen is still taking clients.

===You shoulda had a lawyer help you lock those rights down. I hear Shay Allen is still taking clients.===

I hear people do odd things for a want of money.

I’ll take a signed “Rauner Failed” sign for compensation, but I’m guessing I’m persona non grata right now.

  20. - 32nd Ward Roscoe Village - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 2:14 pm:

Ditto many of the comments here–every time I play a You Tube video the ad is from JB. My 17-year-old son also wanted to talk about the AG race, indicating that he is seeing Kwame ads all over the place on social media. No Erika ads.

Rauner failed to get the Madigan lead Democratic party to compromise on even a few reforms off the list of over 40 to help restore faith in Illinois so let’s vote to reelect all of them and their handpicked candidate for Governor!

  23. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 2:31 pm:

    ===Rauner failed to get…===

    60 and 30.

    Same as it ever was.

    Rauner couldn’t get 60, couldn’t get 30…

    The rest are excuses.

  24. - Dance Band on the Titanic - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 2:34 pm:

    “Rauner failed…”

Is reality finally starting to set in for Lucky Pierre?

  25. - JS Mill - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 2:41 pm:

=Rauner failed to get the Madigan lead Democratic party to compromise on even a few reforms off the list of over 40 to help =

Jim Durkin didn’t, he was able to find compromise with Cullerton and Madigan and a Budget and a change in school funding.

And he is just the minority leader, not the governor.

    So, by your standard….Rauner Failed.

  26. - Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 2:43 pm:

Jim Durkin voted against the budget with the permanent the tax hike JS Mill

  27. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 2:49 pm:

===Jim Durkin voted against the budget===

He voted for it this year. He also negotiated it.

  28. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 2:53 pm:

===He voted for it this year. He also negotiated it.===

    152-20…

Some might say they aced out Rauner…

  29. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 2:54 pm:

Said it before and I will say it again…
I really hope your rich business guy is successful…

    I had that hope once.

I don’t see yours having a whole lot more luck or sense than mine seemed to have.

  30. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 3:01 pm:

“Rauner failed to get the Madigan lead Democratic party to compromise on even a few reforms”

The Senate passed a two year property tax freeze last year that Rauner called phony. Madigan offered to work with Rauner to pass more workers comp reform before that. These have nothing to do with the budget, but Rauner used the issues to hold the budget hostage and the reform offers were still not enough.

Rauner never intended to work with anyone. He thought he can get away with blaming Madigan, but the irony is that he’s practically become Madigan, popularity-wise. Voters wanted a problem-solver who rises above political hatred, instead they got Union Bustin’ Bruce, who lied to voters about his anti-union intentions.

  31. - @misterjayem - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 3:38 pm:

I have a very good ad-blocker and don’t watch live television, so the only Rauner ads I ever see are the posts from Lucky Pierre.

  32. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Oct 23, 18 @ 4:27 pm:

    ==Rauner failed==

    Now you’re getting it.
