* Remember when we talked about the non-binding pro-2nd Amendment “sanctuary county” referendums all over Downstate this year? They’re essentially designed to help Republicans get folks to the polls. Madison County is one of the counties having a vote and a rally was held this week…
While local voters have to decide on a referendum to make Madison County a “sanctuary county” for gun owners, speakers at a pro-gun rally at the Madison County Courthouse said candidates’ stance on the Second Amendment makes it a statewide issue.
About 125 people showed up for a pro-gun rally in the courtyard between the Madison County Courthouse and the Administration Building. The rally was sponsored by The Madison County Friends of the Second Amendment, and was followed by another pro-gun event at the Edwardsville American Legion Post 199. […]
The referendum reads: “Shall Madison County become a sanctuary county for law abiding gun owners to protect them from unconstitutional gun laws passed by the Illinois General Assembly?” […]
“Pritzker is an F,” [Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association] said. “You know why he’s an F, because we can’t give him an F-. He’s not the guy you want if you’re a gun owner, or if you live anywhere outside the city of Chicago. This is a battle between the city of Chicago and the rest of the state. Anybody that votes for folks from the north end (of the state) are voting for the city of Chicago, it’s as simple as that.”

After McCann, Pearson may the second-most competent person working for Pritzker. He’s doing his bit.

Does Pearson realize rauner is from Winnetka? Lol
- Huh? - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 1:56 pm:
Shall Madison County be on the hook for massive legal bills when it passes an unconstitutional law for a sanctuary county that won’t protect law abiding citizens criminals?”
Fixed it for ya

“… it’s as simple as that.” Is it? Let’s just make (fill in the blank) it’s own state. It’s us versus “them”. No wonder we’re having issues in this state.

===an unconstitutional law===
It’s a non-binding referendum.
Your fix is phony.

Sanctuary wouldn’t be an issue if the GOP Congress had done their job and passed reasonable immigration reform.
- Huh? - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 2:03 pm:
Non-binding referendums that get passed with overwhelming support have a tendency to have follow up laws passed.

So where is the Millionaire’s Tax?
- Demoralized - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 2:10 pm:
I’m pretty sure that these goofs don’t get to decide what is and is not Constitutional. There’s a process for that.
And, by the way, you won’t be a “law abiding citizen” if you choose to ignore any state laws.
- DeseDemDose - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 2:23 pm:
I wish there was a state law that says downstate counties keep your guns and whatever but stop taking more than your fair share of Illinois taxes collected from the people of Chicago and its suburbs.
- Honeybear - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 2:55 pm:
Sigh…..
Ugh…….,
I just don’t get gun owners.
The “self object” thing with guns frankly creeps me out.
I am perplexed why they have to
Revolve everything around one issue.
Their guns.
- Tequila Mockingbird - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 3:14 pm:
Peaceful, law abiding gun owners get tired of being blamed for Chicago’s violence. The Chicago politicians are unable or unwilling to solve Chicago’s problems but are quick to call for more restrictions on guns, gun owners, and gun dealers statewide. So yeah, it starts to feel like a cultural us vs them.
- Anonymous - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 3:43 pm:
Pearson was happy to con Otis McDonald into signing on to the lawsuit against the city of Chicago handgun ban that went to the Supreme Court, and more that happy to use Shawn Gowder and Rhonda Ezell as plaintiffs for NRA lawsuits. Black people come in handy that way for ISRA.
After 2nd Amendment attorney Alan Gura made history with McDonald v. Chicago, Pearson let NRA lobbyist Todd Vandermyde load up Rep. Brandon Phelps’ garbage concealed carry bill with criminal penalties, Duty to Inform, and every other crummy thing that can get blacks killed by police. But the southern Illinoisans are the victims, and if it weren’t for “Chicago politicians” (and traitors like Pearson, Vandermyde, Phelps and Valinda Rowe) we could all go back to 1962, like in Chatsworth. Please.
- illini - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 4:04 pm:
We do not need any more false issues to further divide those of us in Southern Illinois from our fellow citizens in Chicago and the Northern part of our Great State. Please stop.

Gun owners are always such victims. This nonsense that people are “coming after our guns” continues to be perpetuated and yet I’ve never in my life seen anything that closely resembles anyone coming after anybody’s guns.
And, as I said before, you won’t be good “law abiding citizens” should you decide to unilaterally ignore laws.
These referendums are nothing more than a stunt and they are a poor stunt at that.

Whoa, is that really what you wanted to say? I know some African American sportsman shooters that might take exception. It’s no longer just old white guys at the gun range.
