Bustos elected DCCC chair
Thursday, Nov 29, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller
* The Hill…
Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) was elected chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Thursday, beating out Reps. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.) and Denny Heck (D-Wash.).
Bustos won 117 votes, compared to 83 for Heck and 32 for DelBene. […]
Bustos dropped out of the assistant leader race to run for the DCCC position. She is slated to succeed DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján (N.M.), who was elected Wednesday to serve as the next assistant leader.
Bustos currently serves as the co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee and was the committee’s recruitment vice chairwoman during the 2016 election cycle.

Congratulations.
It’s good to have Illinois congress members in leadership positions. Hopefully she will have great success in 2020, which will help in purging us from Trumpism.

Awesome. Cheri is great and I expect her to do well as DCCC chair.
- City Guy - Thursday, Nov 29, 18 @ 12:05 pm:
She is fantastic and will do a great job.

A great pick.

Could make her vulnerable at home if a legit opponent emerged. Also takes her out of potential US Senate talk if durbin doesn’t run.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Nov 29, 18 @ 12:23 pm:
“Good for Illinois” kind of move.
Between Durbin and Bustos, Illinois should have a big footprint in those caucuses.
Illinois’ GOP influence nationally is in the person of Kinzinger as he has become a talking head on the cables.

If ever there was a cycle to be DCCC chair, this is it. Good luck to her and I hope she gives some Illinois consultants prominent roles in expanding the House majority.
- Precinct Captain - Thursday, Nov 29, 18 @ 12:28 pm:
Congratulations Cheri!
She switched from running for Assistant Democratic Leader to running for the D-Trip job, so I take this as a sign she’s out of the running for Durbin’s seat should he choose to retire in 2020.

===takes her out of potential US Senate talk===
I think her NRA rating may have done that already.
- illini - Thursday, Nov 29, 18 @ 12:35 pm:
Kunzinger may well be the only Illinois Congressman of any influence in the Republican caucuses.
I wonder why my Congressman John Shimkus does not have a more prominent position?

Big job. First order is to defend the 40 seats that flipped.
In Illinois, I wonder if Roskam and Hultgren will have another go at it (although Roskam got clocked by 10 points; his talking out of both sides of his mouth act might have worn out its welcome).
Noticed that Schneider won the 10th by 31 points this time. That was a swing district forever.

I think she will be good at this exhausting job.

Will Cheri be supportive of Congressional nominees that are progressive? The answer is that the DCCC donors will not allow for that. BTW - Cheri’s last role was co-chair of Policy and Communications. This from a Democrat that has next to no message.

It is great to see a fine lady, such as Sheri in that role. Kudos to the entire Callahan family. I can see Gene holding court and having a heck of a party up there….
- Amalia - Thursday, Nov 29, 18 @ 2:35 pm:
Great work, Cheri. Not easy because Denny Heck is a popular guy.

It’s probably a pretty good indicator that Durbin *is* running.

Congrats to Cheri Bustos and glad to see that someone from the heartland will bring new energy to the heartland where Democrats are struggling. First action should be to move the DCCC to the midwest and fire the D.C. consultants. Time to discontinue the gravy train contracts and bring some new energy.
- Publius - Thursday, Nov 29, 18 @ 4:01 pm:
When will dccc realize they should work with local parties instead of bringing people from outside the districts that try to invent the wheel. All that does is make locals dislike the candidate and the national party

But to her credit on the nra she voted against allowing wolves to be slaughtered again.
