* I have a bunch of errands to run and I am badly in need of a haircut before my “Christmas with Rich Miller” City Club gig on Monday.

Speaking of which (you didn’t think I was gonna let you off the hook, did you?) the charity auction benefiting Lutheran Social Services of Illinois is still happening. You can bid on tickets to my annual City Club speech through Friday night, so click here. If you’ve already purchased tickets or you can’t make it and still want to contribute, you can also click here and then click that green “Donate” button in the upper right hand corner.

Anyway, be kind to each other and keep it Illinois-centric. Thanks.

So… Harper… Machado… Grandal… Sox fans, what do you think? You got anyone penciled in on your starting lineups yet?

  2. - wordslinger - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 3:36 pm:

If you’d told me before the game that Mitch would throw three picks and the Bears would only score 15, I’d have said the Rams are going to smoke them.

The most impressive part of the win was the tackling. The Bears put on a clinic. First man square ‘em up, wrap ‘em up, keep driving the legs and the rest swarm to help. Very few yards-after-catch on passes, or yards-after-contact on runs.

Tackling like that is a sign of very good coaching and preparation.

Mitch needs to figure out how to grip the ball in the damp and cold. His grip caused him to be wildly inaccurate. Goff had the same problem.

Bet the Bears wish they had Mahomes. The rookie plays likes a veteran, hope he doesn’t burn out too soon.

  4. - illini - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 3:44 pm:

Best wishes to the Illinois Womens’ Volleyball team. Final Four play starts tonight.

Interesting article on the Trib website about mayoral candidates who have released their income tax returns, and those who haven’t. Amara Enyia is among those who have not, which makes one wonder if there’s a connection between that and yesterday’s vague resignation statement from her now former comms director.

62 days until Spring Training (pitchers&catchers)

–Bet the Bears wish they had Mahomes.–

    So do most teams.

Giving all those picks to move up one for Mitch still makes no sense (no one had him as the first QB in that draft), but he seems earnest in improving.

===The most impressive part of the win was the tackling===

Then runner-up has to be the blocking. Keeping Donald and Suh away from Trubiskey while helping Howard rush for 100 yards for the first time all year was impressive. Even more impressive was the faith the Bears showed in James Daniels and the patched-up O-line.

    Top notch.

  9. - "Mary" - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 4:00 pm:

So… Rep. Elect Stava-Murray’s letter was pretty wild…

Kind of reminds me of these new members of congress who want to serve on ways and means right away. They just don’t get it.

Leaving party ID and Madigan himself out of the conversation, If you bash the leader of your own party and refuse to support that person as the head of your own caucus, you’re going to have trouble working with that party. Suggesting that you shouldn’t be isn’t altruistic; it’s ignorant.

  10. - Wensicia - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 4:33 pm:

Channel 7 News: Rauner’s saying he seriously considered not running for governor last election and offered to financially support four other possible candidates, all who turned him down.

  11. - Thomas Paine - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 4:42 pm:

@Wensicia - I am guessing none of those candidates were named Ives or McCann? Come on, you really cannot believecanything Rauner says. He has been rewriting events since Election Night in 2014, even lied about his own childhood, and will say just about anything to make himself look better.

@Mary - I don’t understand anyone who casts aspersions on everyone in Springfield but then threatens to file complaints against anyone who does not want to socialize with her.

  12. - Cable Line Beer Gardener - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 4:48 pm:

Not trying to overly picky but we travel a lot on 57 with the pups and it has been frustrating that the rest areas in Will County have been closed since early summer with a projected date of Opening Fall of 2018-all of the barricades have been hit or moved and I cannot remember the last time I saw any work trucks or people working. I swear my pups are going to pee their pants one of these days. It would be nice if the State could update the projected open date.

  13. - Anonymous - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 5:41 pm:

Blackhawks are at bottom. Good parts of the team still exist, but they can’t seem to pull it together. Defensive holes

  14. - wordslinger - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 6:08 pm:

A strong defense will give a football team a puncher’s chance against anyone.

Look at Dallas beating New Orleans, the Bears beating the Rams.

So far, the Bears have not been blown out in any game this year.

    Their four losses:

    Green Bay by one.

    Miami by three.

    New England by seven.

    Giants by three.

  15. - Da Big Bad Wolf - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 6:10 pm:

Threaten? You mean like Stava-Murray won’t get a clock?

  16. - Thomas Paine - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 6:42 pm:

Yes, Big Bad Wolf: Stava-Murray has made it clear that she expects to be invited to all the events so she can make a stink; oh, and she is gonna file a complaint if anyone gossips about her making a stink.

  17. - Keyrock - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 6:48 pm:

Burke’s office re-raised. They missed the safe the first time?

  18. - Keyrock - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 6:49 pm:

    Re-raided. (*#€?* auto-correct.)

  19. - wordslinger - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 7:04 pm:

If I were a Dem lawmaker, I think I’d stand clear and let Stava-Murray do her thing as she sees fit without comment.

It’s one vote. And anything that could remotely be construed as threats of retaliation, rightly or wrongly, just ain’t worth it.

  20. - Tattoo - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 7:06 pm:

Ed Burke really liked to stick his nose in places it didn’t belong

  21. - AnnaMurray - Thursday, Dec 13, 18 @ 10:44 pm:

@“Mary” - how clever of you to use the story of someone harassing me as a pseudonym to attempt to discredit me. Is that all they really can come up with these days? I’m just a young’un too big for my britches? Kind of trite and tired, don’t you think?

@ThomasPaine lolz if all you took away from my text was me reporting retribution for a federally protected activity. Also depressing that you think so little of people that you somehow thought this was about actual parties. This is about threats that I wouldn’t get legislation to reduce barriers for pregnant women & people of color & people with disabilities to run for office out of committee onto the floor. But cute that you are worried about parties; to each their own I suppose.

  22. - Politix - Friday, Dec 14, 18 @ 8:42 am:

Pritzker on Crain’s 2018 Naughty List today for not having “a strong enough commitment to fixing Illinois’ broken finances.”

Can we at least wait until he is sworn in before we start to criticize? Sheesh.

  23. - Politix - Friday, Dec 14, 18 @ 8:54 am:

@AnnaMurray: If it’s really you, consider stepping away from your computer. I empathize and you have every right to be angry, but fighting with strangers on CF is counterproductive. Check in with your advisers and then chill.

  24. - theCardinal - Friday, Dec 14, 18 @ 11:18 am:

    Word you are spot on.
