Todd Ricketts joins Trump Victory Committee
Friday, Feb 1, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller
* If this doesn’t drive the final stake into the heart of those Illinois gubernatorial campaign rumors, I don’t know what will…
The Republican National Committee (RNC) and Donald J. Trump for President campaign announced today that Todd Ricketts will join the Trump Victory Committee, a joint fundraising committee between the RNC and the Donald J. Trump for President campaign, as its finance chairman.
Ricketts has served as RNC finance chairman since January 2018, spearheading the committee’s record-breaking fundraising work for the midterm cycle. He played a critical role in fundraising for President Trump ahead of the 2016 election.
“Todd has been a friend and successful advocate for our Party and I look forward to his strong leadership on the Trump Victory Committee over the next two years,” said President Trump.
“The RNC is grateful for Todd’s leadership and thrilled that he will play an important role in President Trump’s re-election in 2020,” said RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
“Todd’s contributions play a critical part in advancing the America First agenda,” said Donald J. Trump for President Campaign Manager Brad Parscale. “Todd was a huge help to President Trump in 2016 and we look forward to his finance leadership ahead of 2020.”
“I am honored to continue to support President Trump and the Republican Party through the Trump Victory Committee,” said Ricketts. “As we head toward 2020, I will work to ensure President Trump and his campaign have the resources they need to fight for the American people.”
This should not be taken as a knock on the president, by the way, but the guy lost Illinois by 17 points in 2016 and we all saw what happened here last year.

Yes, but wouldn’t this make Ricketts a favorite to win the GOP nomination for Governor? With his money and Trump’s voters, I have a hard time thinking of anyone else in the ILGOP that would have a chance.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Feb 1, 19 @ 1:24 pm:
Welp… now we know.
I’m waiting for some ILGOP leadership to emerge.
…
The ones wanting to *be* those leaders are “less than less”…
Leaders Durkin and Brady… I turn to ya… I wrote down my path… it’s time to find our leadership… identify them.
Thanks,
OW

I am going to stick with my earlier prediction. Rauner wont run for reelection. Oops . I mean Trump.

Looks like my last Cubs game attended is going to be Game 5 of the WS in 2016.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Feb 1, 19 @ 1:29 pm:
Oh… Raunerites who want that “second chance” to be seen as a leader… until you repudiate the actions of 99th GA Raunerites and plan to be a better party to attract suburban moms, minorities, young voters, educated voters… please don’t waste anyone’s time thinking you’re the answer.
You’re not.
Embracing Trump in Illinois will also be, not only a non-starter, but an ILGOP death knell.
I just didn’t want any ambiguity… Raunerites need to atone.

Is this a different Todd rickets?

And if the Cubs launch their own network, your last Cubs game watched will be in October.

Tequila: yes, Todd M. Ricketts is the RNC chair.

Racine factory back on.

Victory Committee? Or self defense fund?
- Colossus of roads - Friday, Feb 1, 19 @ 1:48 pm:
Join Trump or try to make the Cubs better, what a delemma. Say it ain’t so Joe.

ILGOP’s got nothing to lose.
They tanked well before W was president, almost 20 years ago.
ILGOP couldn’t defeat Blago, even as the FBI had taped him.
ILGOP couldn’t defeat Quinn.
ILGOP couldn’t get their governor to govern.
Trump?
ILGOP’s got nothing to lose by supporting the current president.

One union hating billionaire helping another. Trump turned the entire country RTWFL for the public sector and touted it. Trump turned all public employees into second class citizens. To see the essence of the GOP, see Trump’s Rose Garden gathering photo when the US House voted to repeal the ACA.

Yeah, well both Trump and Foxconn have track records on truthiness.
Might want to double-check on U.S. Steel opening all those new plants and how Carrier was “saved” in Indiana before you take it to the bank.

The fact that Trump lost by 17 and the dems swept November says more about the residents of this state than Trmp/IL R’s.
It’s why more and more residents are fleeing.
- Blue Dog Dem - Friday, Feb 1, 19 @ 2:03 pm:
Grandson. The two things i know. Union membership shrunk for 30 years. Pre-Trump. Unions can survive and thrive if consumers demand union built products and services.
- The Captain - Friday, Feb 1, 19 @ 2:09 pm:
I get it but this helps him in a Republican primary even if it hurts him in the general. In order to win the Republican nomination in three years you’ll probably have to do a number of things that help in the primary and hurt in the general, such as this. Whoever does win the nomination will probably have to gather similar baggage (or will come with it pre-loaded, like Ives).
- VanillaMan - Friday, Feb 1, 19 @ 2:09 pm:
Everyone I know that left Illinois, didn’t “flee”.
They either retired, or attend school elsewhere, or sent to serve elsewhere, transferred or was offered a new job.
People flee tragedies.
No one is fleeing.
Stop it.

I talked to “Illinois” and Illinois would like you to flee as well.

Three years is so long.
But it’s really hard to see where a legitimate contender comes from.
- Blue Dog Dem - Friday, Feb 1, 19 @ 2:14 pm:
Vanilla. Your mostly correct, but i know two upper middle income families who stay in Florida just long enough to get residency. One kept a small home here and the other toughs it out in a $100k RV. Sole reason for departure. Taxes.

This could also be a primary strategy, or he could be like my father who actually believes that Trump is the greatest President in the history of our nation and he just has a messaging problem.

“Union membership shrunk for 30 years. Pre-Trump.”
In the private sector. Ricketts, Trump and other right wingers have their sights set on the public sector, to bring those numbers dangerously down. There’s a strong racist element to this, because the people pushing it are rich white elites, and among the targets are minorities.
RTWFL states have lower unionization rates and are lower income by design, so RTWFL absolutely harms unions. This has been true over many years. Billionaires don’t spend billions of dollars to give employees “freedom.” They don’t invest big money to have unionization rates rise. The proof is in the pudding.

It’s done.
Call the taxidermist.
Pritzker would lose if he ran for reelection as a Republican against Carol Mosely Braun. ILGOP was sold to Rauner and he humiliated it. Few Illinoisans have any respect left. It has no governing credibility.

Yeah no he’s definitely running. Old man Joe (the real owner of the flubs) will buy the IL GOP and Todd will spend 3 weeks after the primary talking about how he’s really a moderate and just wants to make IL a better place, and all the dumb media types will fall for it and he’ll get a billion dollars worth of positive free media pieces that all include some version of “btw did you know his sister is a Democrat?” and “he can’t be that bad, his sister is liberal”

The Ricketts are hardly the first group of Republicans to own the Chicago Cubs. In case you were unaware, the Tafts, the Wrigleys, and many of the people from the Tribune group were identified with the GOP.
