* Proft paper…
Former GOP Chairman Pat Brady delivered yet another sucker punch to his own party by donating to far-left Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, former State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) told Prairie State Wire.
Ives, who nearly defeated Bruce Rauner in last Spring’s gubernatorial primary, called Brady a “traitor” for the $500 donation that federal records show he made to Durbin in March for his 2020 primary campaign.
“I am absolutely stunned that anyone would call himself a Republican and give money to Dick Durbin who represents everything our party is opposed to,” Ives said.
I read that and couldn’t help hearing Dave Weigel’s online voice say “She’s running.”
Think she’ll run against Durbin next year?
- Anon E Moose - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:34 pm:
Maybe, she seems to enjoy losing
- Grand Avenue - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:36 pm:
Probably.
The over-arching November 2020 issue for ILGOP is the FairTax/JobsTax referendum, so their maybe Ives being the nominee means Durbin can scare more Dems to come out and vote and vote Yes.
Or maybe her running motivates more rock solid conservatives to vote and they vote No.
Or maybe it doesn’t matter because the Presidential Election will determine the Electorate.
- Chicago Cynic - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:44 pm:
Yup. And she. Is. Going. To. Get. Crushed. Destroyed. Embarrassed.
- Grand Avenue - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:45 pm:
According to an FEC Search, the only Republican to declare so far is Peggy Hubbard, who according to her website is “The Radical Left’s Worst Nightmare”

- Cheryl44 - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:46 pm:
I don’t think you can embarrass her.
- Chicago Cynic - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:47 pm:
Fair point, Cheryl44. Very fair point.
- Pick a Name - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:51 pm:
Well, I’m stunned too. DD is so far to the left……………
- Gooner - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:52 pm:
She seems to think her current office is below her.
She also seems to think that Illinois has a far right silent majority.
She’s badly mistaken on both but she will run.
- Rich Miller - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:54 pm:
===her current office===
She has no office.
- don the legend - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 3:58 pm:
Aren’t we all mistaken? Won’t the race be Ives vs. Anna Stava-Murray?
- Taxrate62 - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:05 pm:
It does not matter. If she cannot beat Rauner, she has NO chance against Durbin.
- LTSW - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:05 pm:
She could win 95 counties and get 30% of the vote.
- Gooner - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:07 pm:
Rich,
Thanks. Completely blanked on the idea that she left office. My bad.
- consmom - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:14 pm:
Maybe, but I’m just glad she’s called out Brady for the fake Republican that he is. It always annoys me when WGN has him on at election time as the “Republican” commentator.
- I Miss Bentohs - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:14 pm:
If she does run against Durbin, I would so think it hilarious if Rauner throws a token his way … even if just $1000.
- Life Long R - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:19 pm:
Hope she does so i can be one of those R’s that vote for a D. The sad thing is she probably really thinks she can win
- Mortyathome - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:21 pm:
I can thing of nothing more horrifying than a Jeanne Ives Purity Test
- Steve - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:23 pm:
Ives is hoping this photo will become a big issue in the coming months/years.

=the only Republican to declare so far is Peggy Hubbard, who according to her website is “The Radical Left’s Worst Nightmare”=
I doubt that the “radical left” has even heard of her.
- Concerned Citizen - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:27 pm:
Maybe she’ll have a chance if Raja gets in the primary against Durbin.
- Amalia - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:32 pm:
Jeanne Ives. bring it on.
- OutOfState - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:36 pm:
Sure, why not? She likes running, and she’s the type of Republican to get a boost with Trump at the top of the ticket. She won’t win, but it’s not a bad time to try.
- Turner - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:52 pm:
This “newspaper” article does not mean that she will run for the senate. This is part of the Proft/Ives attempt to take over the ILGOP and push moderate Republicans out.
- Grandson of Man - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:52 pm:
Many can only hope Ives will run. I hope Eastern Bloc people run, too, for statewide or national office. Run and lose badly.
- anon - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 4:55 pm:
Maybe an Ives - McSweeney primary.
Losing a Senate race can sometime have its rewards (Lynn Martin became Sec. of Labor after losing to Paul Simon).
- Annon3 - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 5:12 pm:
I am sure she will as she should she has already introduced her self statewide but can she expand her base? Doubtful but she will give everyone something to talk about.
- Former State Employee - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 5:32 pm:
What else does she have to do? She could get a job; volunteer for a charity, or do something worthwhile, but that is highly unlikely.
- Justin - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 5:41 pm:
A Hubbard-Ives primary in 2020 will be a battle for who’ll go the furthest right.
Speaking of Mrs. Hubbard, she’s a very well-known critic of #BlackLivesMatter and a former Democrat until Ferguson a few years ago.
- Practical Politics - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 6:04 pm:
The fact that Ives made a strong showing may be due to her opponent. I am not sure how well she would fare in a primary or general election with someone else other than Bruce V. Rauner.
As for Pat Brady, it is time that he bows out.
- wordslinger - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 6:28 pm:
Meh, I don’t know her mind, so it’s hard to guess.
I’m quite certain Trump/Ives would be a Dream Team for Illinois Dems in the extended suburbs and college towns. Old GOP DuPage, Kane, Lake and Will could go the way of the dodo bird.
Proft and Ives relish the intra-Illinois GOP slap fights. And they please Sugar Daddy Dick; he’s the audience-of-one they’re playing to.
They’re good at opening up his checkbook; winning statewide elections is beside the point.
- justacitizen - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 7:21 pm:
Ives isn’t the answer but wish we could get a good candidate to run vs Durbin because he’s exceeded his useful life as IL Senator.
- Anonymous - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 8:15 pm:
@Practical Politics — the opponent helped, as did the six figure national Dem spending that final weekend. Not sure either will be factors in a 2020 Senate primary.
- The_Equalizer - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 8:39 pm:
Calling Durbin “far-left” is so intellectually dishonest. Feed some red meat to that base that might get her around 37% of the vote.
- Concerned Dem - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 9:01 pm:
Ives is right… Durbin does stand for “everything” her party is against, he stands for actually governing.
- JS Mill - Tuesday, Apr 30, 19 @ 8:01 am:
Ives is a traitor…to common sense and decency.
- Black Balled - Tuesday, Apr 30, 19 @ 8:15 am:
Brady won more elections than McKenna and Schneider combined. Two constitutional offices, federal senator, congressional majority in Illinois, plus additions to the Illinois house and senate. He did this by working together to make Illinois better.
- efudd - Tuesday, Apr 30, 19 @ 8:38 am:
These term-limit touting Republicans sure do love running for some kind of office year after year after year.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Apr 30, 19 @ 9:02 am:
Any comment from Brady on the reasoning behind the contribution?
- Earl Barrasso - Tuesday, Apr 30, 19 @ 10:20 am:
Peggy Hubbard would be a disaster against Durbin. Is she even a Republican? She has too much baggage. LOOK: Her FEC forms are a mess and she has no accomplishments at all. Ives will jump in. It is a matter of time.
