* The committee’s name is Jeanne for Congress…
…Adding… DCCC…
Remember how we said Evelyn Sanguinetti’s week couldn’t get any worse after she got outraised 7-to-1 by Rep. Casten in her first fundraising quarter? Apparently we were wrong.
After weeks of speculation, far-right conservative Jeanne Ives officially filed for Congress today in the 6th District – apparently Sanguinetti’s paltry fundraising haul couldn’t scare her off.
After Sanguinetti’s ticket barely survived a brutal challenge by Ives in the 2018 Republican primary, expect another toxic race to the conservative fringes this cycle in a district that President Trump lost by seven points. Sanguinetti has already endorsed President Trump’s re-election, so who knows to what extremes Ives will drag her to over the course of a contentious primary.
“Today’s announcement sets the stage for a brutal race to the conservative extreme in the 6th District between a floundering Evelyn Sanguinetti and a far-right wing Jeanne Ives,” said DCCC spokesperson Mike Gwin. “While Ives and Sanguinetti battle it out over who can bear-hug President Trump the hardest, Sean Casten will remain focused on delivering for middle-class Illinois families by working to keep down the cost of health care and lowering taxes for homeowners.”
…Adding… Sun-Times…
In a statement the Sanguinetti campaign said, “We welcome Jeanne to the race and look forward to showing why Evelyn is the conservative with the best chance to beat Casten.”

Where could you possibly move to that would be more fun than our state’s politics? This is just the best.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 2:30 pm:
Slip and Sue vs. Jeanne Ives, and et al
This is almost a bad, for me, siding with Rauner backing Durkin over Proft, LOL
My hope, as of this moment, is Jeanne wins, Slip and Sue gets hired by someone for her own sake and Jeanne implodes in a way that will make a comeback again near impossible.
It’ll be entertaining. That is for sure.
Wheaton; the cradle of silliness.
- So_Ill - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 2:33 pm:
This should certainly help Casten. Especially if she somehow wins.

As Sean Casten dances a jig. Couldn’t have better news.
- Iggy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 2:38 pm:
=Sean Casten dances a jig=
If Sean Casten dances a jig but no one knows who Sean Casten is, did said jig ever happen?
- Lord of the Fries - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 2:38 pm:
Jeanne helping democrats again. Casten is ecstatic right now.
If Ives’ wins the primary, it ensures Casten a 2nd term.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 2:40 pm:
===…no one knows who Sean Casten is===
Sean Casten is the current sitting Congressman.
Can’t beat someone with… silly.

I want a Sanguinetti/Ives debate so very much.
- LC Illini - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 2:50 pm:
From the first couple weeks of campaigning, it doesn’t seem like Evelyn is ready for a top tier race (primary or general). Her fundraising numbers were mediocre to say the best. Will be interesting.
- LakeCo - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 2:51 pm:
Somebody get the popcorn.
- Chicago Cynic - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 2:51 pm:
“Casten is ecstatic right now.” Yup. 100%.

Ives, while you may genuinely mean well, your penchant for paving the way for Democrats like Governor Pritzker is unprecedented.
- bored now - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 2:52 pm:
===…no one knows who Sean Casten is===
it would be interesting if casten had beaten roskam while being a relatively unknown (despite having spent $6M). that would be a really bad sign for republicans there…

You know, you don’t have to be in the state to watch it. Might be more fun if the taxes they raise aren’t your own.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:20 pm:
===just excited Rauner still relevant.===
I think “Dad’s Home State” found its spinoff…
- Cream of Wheaton - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:20 pm:
Jeanne Ives cares little for the Republican party she cares only for herself.
- Ducky LaMoore - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:21 pm:
I’m not joking when I type this… I think Sanguinetti will drop out before the end of the year. While I don’t agree with Ives on virtually anything, I like her in a GOP primary. She got 48% against a sitting governor. She is going to eat Evelyn’s lunch.
- Hamlet's Ghost - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:22 pm:
If Ives outraises Sanguinetti between now and September 30th I would not be surprised to see Sanguinetti decide not to file.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:22 pm:

Slip and Sue Sanguinetti is a Raunerite, by no measure a Republican. What’s your point?
- Amalia - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:22 pm:
Go on….. (makes lots of popcorn and brings out the big bottle of wine.)
- cdog - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:25 pm:
I’m glad to see Ives in the race. I hope she wins. Her views are more common than the readers here realize.
I understand the above statement is from the DCCC but Illinois is so liberal and progressive anymore, it almost seems like it is a national outlier. It sure isn’t a reflection of the values by which I was raised in Central IL.
Regardless of the DCCC forecasted “toxic race to the conservative fringes,” the national “toxic race to the (liberal progressive) fringes” has sure been interesting. Just ask Nancy. /s
- walker - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:25 pm:
Many on both sides underestimated Ives’ political skills before. I wouldn’t make that mistake again.
- Cream of Wheaton - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:29 pm:
Well you Jeanneites helped JB pritzker to get an office thank you
- Iron Lady - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:33 pm:
It was not so much Ive’s skills as it was the lack of Rauner’s skills.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:34 pm:
===Well you …helped JB pritzker to get an office thank you===
LOL
Rauner himself asked FOUR people to replace him on the ballot.
That’s not on Ives. That’s Bruce.
All day.
You’re welcome.
- Cream of Wheaton - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:36 pm:
It didn’t help that Jeanne was hammering on rauner after the primary was done and she lost… as far as I’m concerned Jeanne Ives is disloyal Republican
- Cream of Wheaton - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:41 pm:
Lest we forget Jeanne took Rauner’s money for a long time prior to the run
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:45 pm:
===Lest we forget Jeanne took Rauner’s money for a long time prior to the run===
… must you be reminded it was Ives that shattered and sunk Rauner with conservatives.
This is fun, now your turn, lol
- Ducky LaMoore - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:46 pm:
“Jeanne Ives is disloyal Republican”
Stop making me like her. I can’t stand party loyalist types. The people that will say and do bad things to the state or country out of some sick loyalty to someone instead of serving the people that elected them don’t deserve any support.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:46 pm:
===… as far as I’m concerned Jeanne Ives is disloyal Republican===
Rauner was never a Republican. Ives pointed that out fur the General Election.
As a Republican. you owe her a thank you.
- Anon - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:47 pm:
Given her pitiful fundraising last quarter, a competitive primary is the last thing Sanguinetti wants right now.
- Cream of Wheaton - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 3:49 pm:

They are pushing me to work for Casten.

===The difference between a party loyalist and someone like yourself is JB===
Nah.
“The difference between a party loyalist and someone like yourself WAS Rauner.”
LOL
- City Zen - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 4:06 pm:
==she got outraised 7-to-1 by Rep. Casten==
Isn’t this expected of a sitting elected official at this point in the election cycle? Or are Casten contributors such as the National Beer Wholesalers and BNP Parabis in the habit of supporting candidates early that haven’t gotten out of the primaries yet?
How much money did Act Blue throw Casten’s way during his primaries? They’re certainly on board now.
- The monster - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 4:11 pm:
Just what we need in Congress, more Ives types….
- Grandson of Man - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 4:12 pm:
“Stop making me like her.”
I also feel sympathetic to her because of Rauner’s abortion betrayal and his general character of using people then stabbing them in the back. This is what happened also with liberals, Democrats and public employee unions who helped him get rich, through pensions (North Shore coastal neoliberal).
Sanguinetti represents Raunerism, which is a bad brand on both sides of the aisle.
Run, Jeanne, run.
- Cream of Wheaton - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 4:29 pm:
In a general election between Jeanne and Sean Casten, Jeanne will only get about 25%… she is guaranteed to lose and turn the 6 district into a permanent hard blue district.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 4:31 pm:
- Cream of Wheaton -
Slip and Sue Sanguinetti is not a Republican but an opportunist who was looking for someone to hire her, and represents all that Rauner did to hurt Illinois.
Rewarding her for such isn’t what a party who was imploded by Bruce and Diana Rauner should want.
- Rich Miller - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 4:32 pm:
===Jeanne will only get about 25%===
Oh, please.
- Hamlet's Ghost - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 4:34 pm:
@CreamofWheaton - correction
“In a general election between Jeanne and Sean Casten, Jeanne will get . . .” very close to 100% of Trump voters and no other votes.
No way Trump loses IL-06 75-25. Maybe 60-40 or 62-38 but not 75-25.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 4:34 pm:
===Jeanne will only get about 25%===
Based on what?
If you’re saying the 6th wants a more liberal Republican to represent them… I dunno about that either, as Sanguinetti will not be able to run right of Ives.
Nope.
- Cream of Wheaton - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 5:15 pm:
Well Mr. Ghost you got me… you’re probably right Jeanne will get 38% but considering the baggage that Jeanne carries on her back it’s not going to be much more than 38%
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 5:21 pm:
===Evelyn is the conservative===
Narrator: Evelyn is a Raunerite.
- Last Bull Moose - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 5:55 pm:
I miss my Republican Party.
- CubsFan16 - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 5:59 pm:
The real question is, does the DCCC do the same “Jeanne is too conservative and extreme” ads that the DGA did in the ‘18 primary. And if so…do we get some “conservative voter alerts” from Evelyn. Lol…the more things change, the more they say the same.
- A guy - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 6:29 pm:
Either one will be in the high 40s in a general, at the very least. Even if not likely as it looks today, either has a chance to beat Casten depending on what the national turf looks like closer to November ‘20. Sean Casten ain’t Jesse White.
- Cream of Wheaton - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 7:12 pm:
That infamous commercial of Jeanne’s is going to really help her if she runs against Casten.
- Orland Native - Thursday, Jul 18, 19 @ 10:13 pm:
Listening to this is going to require a lot of aspirin.
