*** UPDATED x1 *** Lightfoot comms director out after just 88 days

Thursday, Aug 15, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* This early exit is highly unusual…

Lots of internal turmoil in that office.

*** UPDATE *** With a hat tip to a subscriber, this is from October 6, 2017

After just 88 days in Gov. Bruce Rauner’s administration, former Illinois Policy Institute head Kristina Rasmussen is out as the governor’s chief of staff — leaving a job she said she knew would be “rife with promise but would come with a lot of turbulence.”

Needless to say, this is not the path the mayor wants to be following.

===it was amazing; great to be apart of history to serve the city’s first African American mayor===

    Sorry Harold Washington…

  2. - Welp - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:12 am:

Apparently she had been there since the Washington administration - time to just sit back and get that pension.

  3. - Lt. Guv - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:12 am:

    Umm. . . Harold Washington.

“City’s first African American Mayor” I think I’ve identified the problem

Probably for the best she’s out.

This would be Exhibit “A” as to why this person failed as Comms Director.

  8. - Stroger for Circuit Clerk - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:14 am:

Just more proof that Mayor Lightfoot’s reign has been a disorganized mess so far.

  9. - Just Observing - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:16 am:

Is it possible Mary Ann Ahern incorrectly reported the quote about Lightfoot being the first AA mayor? Just a possibility as I haven’t seen the original source.

  10. - Montrose - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:16 am:

An amazing 88 days? Talk about damning with faint praise.

  11. - Iggy - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:16 am:

oh calm down, i’m sure she just forgot to add the word female.

  12. - Just Observing - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:17 am:

Follow-up: I just clicked on Mary Ann Ahern’s profile — she writes:

My mistake not correct quote “first African American FEMALE mayor”

===oh calm down, i’m sure she just forgot to add the word female.===

    Her role was in …

    Communications.

Just Observing - noted and thank you.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:19 am:

    Dear Mary Ann Ahern;

We all can love ya and the work ya do.

    That’s a big boo-boo on the quote.

    Just sayin’

Weird none of the Chicago press seems to want to write about it and we are hearing that on Capitolfax.

They need to take off their rose-colored glasses.

  17. - Misquote - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:22 am:

Btw-Ahern corrected her tweet and she was misquoted. She said first FEMALE African American mayor. I think it’s like Rich said—probably due to turmoil.

  18. - Garak - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:22 am:

    Ahern corrected herself:

Excellent point, those on the far right should take note that capfax is leading the critique of the new Chicago mayor. Because it is warranted.

  21. - Responsa - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:35 am:

This may be the best for both of them. I was fairly impressed with the comms and appearances Lori put out for her campaign but have not been so impressed with much of her comms output since being elected. You just never know.

  22. - Bertrum Cates - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:49 am:

The officer is not always, if ever, going to take counsel, but they should at least listen. That is the most staff should hope for.

  23. - Interested - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 11:51 am:

Lightfoot needs better people tbh. She needs seasoned troops.

  24. - Dotnonymous - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 2:08 pm:

She’s waiting for the first African American President?…remedial history work?…overdue?

    - Dance Band on the Titanic - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 10:25 am:

    That’s funny…and clever…The Mooch strikes again…what a piece of work is he,eh.

  26. - Amalia - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 2:20 pm:

wow, want more info, Rich. I’d rate Lightfoot more highly so far than is being discussed here.

  27. - Dotnonymous - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 2:50 pm:

When you quote anyone…it’s important to include all of the words?…as in what happened to proof…reading…twice or more.

  28. - MG85 - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 3:18 pm:

I guess the video with no audio at the ILDCCA brunch was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

  29. - Shytown - Thursday, Aug 15, 19 @ 4:04 pm:

As Rich said it sounds like there’s lots of turmoil in that office and given its filled with a lot of folks who haven’t worked at that level before it’s not entirely surprising. Like Interested said, she needs seasoned troops.

Campaigning in poetry, governing in prose…
