* Maybe we should talk about football or hockey instead?

  1. - The Captain - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 11:58 am:

Well maybe not hockey. The Hawks are bad and [checks notes] I’m pretty sure the Blues disbanded.

  2. - James the Intolerant - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:01 pm:

Sox need to spend money in the off-season to be in contention for the playoffs next year.
Cubs second highest payroll in baseball, oops.

  3. - Unpopular - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:02 pm:

    Go Cardinals

  4. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:03 pm:

The last glimmer of hope for Cubs fans is the very slim chance that we knock the Cardinals out of first and hand the division to the Brewers.

    I can dream, can’t I?

  5. - RNUG - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:04 pm:

    47th … one can hope.

  6. - Joe Bidenopolous - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:04 pm:

===The last glimmer of hope for Cubs fans is the very slim chance that we knock the Cardinals out of first and hand the division to the Brewers.===

I’m on board…but probably not enough to actually watch any of those games

  7. - RNUG - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:06 pm:

47th … adding, I don’t expect the Cards to get past the Wild Card round … the Cubs wouldn’t have either this year.

  8. - Ron Burgundy - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:06 pm:

Cubs will sit some guys this weekend but still can be spoilers for the Central Division. Brewers are red hot this month.

  9. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:07 pm:

The only good thing is that the Cubs were eliminated in Pittsburgh and not St. Louis.

    That would be too painful.

  10. - RNUG - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:08 pm:

    Nah, let’s talk classic cars.

Blue Dog, you coming to Springfield this weekend for the RT-66 show?

  11. - Pundent - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:10 pm:

Looks like the door is closing on the Joe Maddon era.

  12. - JIbba - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:13 pm:

    Why? Go Cards!

  13. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:16 pm:

If like to think I’m more likely to be in Arizona come Februy than Joe Maddon.

An 8-game losing streak while trying to stay relevant ain’t all on the ball players.

  14. - LizPhairTax - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:26 pm:

Any rebroadcast, retransmission, or account of this game, without the express written consent of Major League Baseball, is prohibited.

  15. - Steve - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:29 pm:

    How about McCook , Illinois…

  16. - mcdouble - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:34 pm:

Can the reds win today please?

  17. - HJohn - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:36 pm:

As a Cubs fan, a lot of Cardinal fans are giving me grief over the 4 game sweep at Wrigley, and it was painful and pretty much ended us. But, the Cardinals would do well to remember that the Cubs swept them in 3 games series twice this year. I expect the Cardinals to win the series and the division this weekend, but I don’t think it’s wise to take the Cubs lightly.

  18. - Birds on the Bat - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:43 pm:

I’m pretty sure the Blues disbanded

The Blues lost two players and upgraded from those two. Cards have set us up for the hard fall.

  19. - L.A. - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:48 pm:

    How about Illini basketball?

  20. - G'Kar - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:49 pm:

I made the mistake of actually getting excited about my Pirates when they were only 2 games out at the All Star Break, but then they went 4-24. I can take some solace in the fact that they broke a 9 game losing streak Tuesday against the Cubs and that the Cubs were eliminated in Pittsburgh.

  21. - Responsa - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:53 pm:

I am happy to talk about Timmy and JoSavior.

  22. - Pick a Name - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:54 pm:

Illini hoops should be pretty good.

And, while technically the Pirates eliminated the Cubs, reality says The Cards 4 game sweep at Wrigley eliminated them

  23. - Jocko - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 12:56 pm:

==Looks like the door is closing on the Joe Maddon era.==

Remember the outrage when PECOTA had them coming in last place with 80 wins?

  24. - Amalia - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 1:01 pm:

It’s one thing for the Brew crew to win and lower your tragic number. It’s a whole other thing to keep losing, including to the Pirates. And, losing fans with your Trump supporting ownership. I have friends whining to me and thinking of switching teams. Pass the popcorn. Cheering on Tim Anderson and Jose Abreu for their batting quests.

  25. - Stones - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 1:07 pm:

    50 years after 1969, 2019 happened. Ironic.

  26. - Rich Hill - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 1:37 pm:

I got a 40-year-old knee that makes noises when I pitch, but I’m looking forward to October baseball in Los Angeles.

  27. - Frank Talks - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 2:01 pm:

Sox are primed and ready, they desperately need pitching to go along with their talent.
Tim Anderson leading the majors in BA. Yoan Moncado 5th in BA in majors 3rd in AL. Abreu 1st in RBI’s in AL 2nd in majors.
The hitting is there and the fielding is there, but the pitching needs a serious upgrade to move to the next level. You can’t just have one decent starter.

  28. - g - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 2:02 pm:

Don’t think I will be able to watch more Cubs games. Not because they lost, but because an out of touch billionaire property tax cheat decided to put them on a subscription only channel. Good luck with that. I’m out. Didn’t Blackhawks try the same thing.. and then relented when nobody watched them. Good bye, Cubs. Will miss you guys

  29. - Eire17 - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 2:05 pm:

    White Sox 2021

  30. - revvedup - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 2:20 pm:

Nevermind the non-excitement as baseball’s Winter Classic (World Series in late Oct.can feel like winter) approaches with neither Chicago team in contention…how ’bout da Bears?! Mitch has to keep playing like he did against Redskins, as does the O-line, or it will be a loong season.

  31. - Birds on the Bat - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 2:41 pm:

because an out of touch billionaire property tax cheat decided to put them on a subscription only channel.

You’re gonna have to be more specific

  32. - Anyone Remember - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 2:58 pm:

As someone who grew up far from here & does not follow any Midwestern baseball team, it is amazing how quickly Cub fans developed a sense of entitlement. Almost the expectation of being in the World Series every year. The days of dynasties are over, Cub fans, just be glad you’re not a Cleveland, Milwaukee, Baltimore, Washington, or Seattle fan.

  33. - Blue Dog Dem - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 3:33 pm:

RNUG. NO. STEP-grandson wedding. But soon.

  34. - Thome's Homie - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 3:58 pm:

Sox had a nice improvement, altho still under .500. Tim Anderson went from .240 to .339 in 1 season, and looks to win the AL/MLB batting title easily! Steady Jose Abreu at 122 RBI’s, 2nd in AL, close to winning for MLB. James McCann was the steal of the season, outstanding progress in offense in 1 year from Detroit, while being a great catcher. Newbies Eloy Jiminez, Yoan Moncada both much better in last months 2019. Lucas Giolito now the ace starter, and really sharp most games. Colome and Bummer good bullpen pitchers.

  35. - OutOfState - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 4:20 pm:

===Cleveland, Milwaukee, Baltimore, Washington, or Seattle fan===

What does this mean? Cleveland and Milwaukee got further in the playoffs last year than the Cubs, and Milwaukee and Washington are in the postseason again this year. The enjoyment derived from the game should not be whether you’ll win the World Series but whether your team will give you good baseball to watch.

  36. - Swinnngggg battta - Thursday, Sep 26, 19 @ 6:38 pm:

    AL:
    Yankees take out Minnesota.
Houston beats whoever in the wildcard
Yanks and Astros toss up but Yankees in 6or 7

    NL:
Cardinals lose to ATL (assuming they hold the division)
Brewers win the wildcard against Washington
Brewers get beat in 5 to LA
    LA over ATL in 6

    Yankees over Dodgers in 6
