* Greg Bishop at The Center Square…
The revelation in the federal indictment of state Rep. Luis Arroyo that an unnamed state Senator had been wearing a wire and cooperating with federal investigators since 2016 elicited a mix of reactions from lawmakers in Springfield this week. […]
State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, said the disclosure regarding a cooperating witness hasn’t changed the way he operates.
“Well I think you should always be cautious what you say to anybody, you know, and not do anything criminal,” Moylan said.
State Rep. Elizabeth Hernandez, D-Cicero, said the idea that one of her colleagues had been wearing a wire was disappointing.
“Because for those who try and work in such a way to build that trust among the public, the unfortunate actions of a few really impact all,” she said.

Kinda liked the approach to put Sen. Link as President Pro Tem.
I mean, if he is going to be speaking into a mic anyway…
- OneMan - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 3:11 pm:
You know, how can I really work with someone if I have to worry that what I am doing with them might be considered a crime.
Looking forward to the declaration of Snitches Get Stitches day Illinois.

Disappointed that someone was wearing a wire? Really Rep Hernandez? Some Chicago city council members said a similar thing and it made them sound as if they were protecting corruption. Not a good look for someone appointed to the new special investigating committee.
- Former State Employee - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 3:13 pm:
So Rep. Hernandez is disappointed that someone cooperating with law enforcement is disappointing? That’ an interesting viewpoint.
- Merica - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 3:20 pm:
are the Reps comments being taken out of context? (i hope) is the act of wearing a wire disappointing or what is discovered from it?
- SSL - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 3:20 pm:
Here’s an idea. Assume everyone is wearing a wire all the time. Only say things that you are comfortable being recorded.
- Get Real - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 3:25 pm:
Rep. Hernandez, the appearance that you do not understand that what Rep. Arroyo did was wrong is as disappointing as the probability that he did it. . . . .SMH
- Seriously? - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 3:27 pm:
Pretty sure Hernandez’s comments were taken out of context but by all means lets trust Center Square to get it right.
- Ron Burgundy - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 3:36 pm:
Yeah I don’t think those comments are nearly as bad as the ones that emanated from the Chicago aldermen not that long ago. They were acting like the wired up colleague was betraying them.
- Think - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 3:43 pm:
It sounds like Hernandez was referring to Arroyo’s actions, not the wire. Center Square does not seem to be reporting in good faith - shocker.
- Ginhouse Tommy - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 4:16 pm:
If Hernandez thinks that it is disappointing a she cant trust an elected official, think how the people who elected and trusted him feel. You know what the rules are. Try to follow them. Act behind closed doors the way you would in church. The only person wearing a wire there is the priest. (for Catholics)
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 4:20 pm:
Hernandez’s remarks were clearly about Arroyo and Sandoval, not the cooperating witness.
Always bet on Center Square to get it wrong.
- SOIL M - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 4:22 pm:
In todays world you should always think that you are being recorded. If not by someone wearing a wire, then someone with a phone, security cameras, traffic cams, someone is always watching and/or listening so conduct yourself so that you dont have to worry about it
- Bruce( no not him) - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 4:23 pm:
“Well I think you should always be cautious what you say to anybody, you know, and not do anything criminal,”
Not do anything criminal. What a novel idea. Illinois politics in a nutshell, having to remind yourself not to be a criminal.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 4:28 pm:
If you’re worried about someone wearing a wire, ugh.
If you’re worried about someone wearing a wire and these are your thoughts to it… you’re doing your job wrong.
You aren’t required to answer every question too, by the by.
- Perrid - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 4:35 pm:
I’d like the full quote from her, or the specific question asked, to be sure I know what she meant was disappointing before jumping down her throat. Her response would work better as a response to it being necessary, for example.
She’s talking about public trust, and someone wearing a wire doesn’t damage the public’s trust.

Full Hernandez quote from the video attached to the story: “Look, the thought about somebody wearing a wire saddens me to no length, because for so long as a legislator, I’ve been in office for 14 years, my strong effort has always been to build trust among the public and when you hear of this, this is what kind of takes us back. Because for those who try and work in such a way to build that trust around the public the unfortunate actions of a few really impact all.”
- The edge - Thursday, Oct 31, 19 @ 6:54 pm:
Amazing that elected officials say they are disturbed that “someone Broke their trust “. Gees,

Thank you. I retract my earlier comment and apologize to Center Square. Lisa Hernandez outdid herself.

- 17% Solution - Friday, Nov 1, 19 @ 7:50 am:
Think, why did you take your comments back? Hernandez was clearly talking about the violation of public trust when she says “this” not the wire itself. You were right the first time.
- ETown60120 - Friday, Nov 1, 19 @ 8:30 am:
Hernandez’s remarks were clearly about Arroyo and Sandoval, not the cooperating witness. Get it right………
