I have been the only political reporter at several of Gov. Pritzker’s press conferences this year. He’s up against coverage of Mayor Lightfoot - and several media outlets are simply understaffed. Just noting the stark difference to coverage of Bruce Rauner. He’s probably jealous.
The press pool is getting pretty shallow these days. Is all of the other media that missed the press conference going to asked Tina for a copy of her story?
On a more serious note: This is an example of why I get really annoyed when commenters scornfully dismiss the Sun-Times.
No, it’s not as big as the Trib — but sometimes it’s not the size of the dog in the fight that counts, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.
And the S-T is still a scrappy old dog.
The reporters at both Chicago dailies are doing critically important work, and if either is further diminished — or God forbid, goes away — the entire state will be in dire trouble.
== we’re gonna CGI a crowd or something, you understand ==
Oswego Willy, will the CGI crowd consist of several dozen CGI Tinas? Or will all the other statehouse reporters get their digital replicas in there?
These should be billed as “exclusive” interviews and the “Sun-Times learned in an exclusive interview” and “Gov. Pritzker told the Sun-Times in an exclusive interview”
I did ask that same question, I was told it’s gonna be a real treat once they send it to Blue Room Stream, couple Easter eggs, maybe even a Marvel hero… me, I can’t wait to see the end product.
Three things at play here:
1. the media is drawn to conflict and there’s just not a lot of conflict in state politics right now.
2. the closing of media outlets and thinning of the press corps. 3. A basic rule-of-thumb that the Chicago media just cares a heck of a lot more about what’s happening in City Hall than they do about what happens in Springfield. True now and it has been that way for probably a century or more.
I’m sorry sir, I cannot use a quote saying “A confidential source close to the Governor. It’s just the two of us here and my intern taking a camera shot.”
I saw him at the cook county democratic event. No one paid attention to his speech. So much cross talk that he probably couldn’t hear himself talk. Poor guy gets no respect.
A lot of JB’s news conferences are inconsequential babble for mundane issues that always seem to end up on Page 6 below the fold. He’s never going to win the popularity poll in the city where the Mayor is king. Might as well take his dog and pony show to the downstate media markets where he seldom seems to visit.
