Crazy video: Watch as Park district truck slides off into Lake Michigan. The two employees inside got out safely. @ABC7Chicago pic.twitter.com/tPVNL5R8jQ
I had heard about this, but had not seen the video. It sounded scary, but seeing it - wow. Those guys are so lucky the truck went in backwards and they were able to get out.
Glad the workers escaped with likely only minor damage to their undergarments. With the lake as high as it is, my advice would be to close that trail for the winter season, simply too much risk, and cost involved in keeping it clear.

Holy smokes. Praise God they’re ok. Wow.
- Fav human - Wednesday, Dec 11, 19 @ 11:26 am:
Amazing they got out with that thing going in so quickly!

Were they supposed to be driving down there (I’m pretty sure that’s the walkway?)? That just doesn’t seem like the best idea during winter conditions…

Yikes. Thank goodness they are ok. The Park District has rescued me at least once…

My heart stopped. Wow. That’s horrible.

NIU Grad, I heard that they were salting the pavement. (Not sure it was a good idea to do it that way, I agree!)
- Huh? - Wednesday, Dec 11, 19 @ 12:14 pm:
Wonder what the fine will be for the accidental dumping of a couple of tons of salt into Lake Michigan.

Thank God is right. They escaped the vehicle and we escaped a horrible Christmas news event.
- SSL - Wednesday, Dec 11, 19 @ 1:36 pm:
That could have ended horribly. You only need to see that video once to know cars and lakes are a bad match. Glad they got out okay.

Will we be seeing this in a Farmer’s insurance ad?
We cover that cause we have seen that.

Now you got their stupid jingle stuck in my head.

Holy cow!! How did they escape that? As it was sliding towards the edge or after getting dragged into the water? Amazing

Supervisor material…

Will the Federal or Illinois EPA require a report filed on spilling salt, oil and gasoline in the lake?

Sure, the truck is the biggest thing pulled from the lake today, but smelts are tastier.
