Instead of an ice rink or basketball court, the floor of the United Center is currently packed from end to end with nearly 26,000 boxes of food.
As of Thursday, a whopping 774,840 pounds of rice, beans, pasta, tuna, tomato sauce, peanut butter, canned vegetables and other non-perishable items filled every inch of the normal playing surface.
The food has been relocated to free up space in the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s main warehouse, according to GCFD senior manager Greg Trotter.

There are a lot of uplifting images of people doing good work coming out of this time and that is something to cherish. I have to admit when I glanced at the photo when I clicked on this post my first thought was that those boxes were coffins I am very happy that my first impression was wrong!

Are you ready, Nancy? Let me hear you… uh 1… uh 2… uh 3… Take me out to the food bank… take me out for some chow…. Find me some green beans and Easy Mac, I can’t wait for the games to come back. Oh we’ll root, root, root up some legumes. If they’re not fried it’s a shame. For it’s 1…2…3 three meals a day at the old food bank…. Let’s save some lives.
