You’ve been ending the transcribed press conferences with -30- What’s that denote?
    Thanks

  2. - Not again - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:25 am:

I never thought I’d say this but I’d rather be in the Thompson Center. Stay vigilant!

  3. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:26 am:

    It’s been most enjoyable cooking.

    Something more soothing lately… cooking.

  4. - LoyalVirus - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:26 am:

How many people do you see out & about wearing masks or anything over their faces? It’s only about 30% that I see- have the other 70% not heard it’s recommended? Do they not care? Takes some will power to not admonish people - especially joggers…

  5. - flea - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:33 am:

glorious morning. turkey and deer everywhere this morning down by the creek. Peace.

  6. - JoanP - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:35 am:

    @OW -

Yes, cooking is happening a lot more, and differently. I’m trying new things, or going back to old favorites. Last night, I made a stir-fry, something I like but hadn’t done in a long time.

I’m also baking. Yeast is hard to find, but I’ve done muffins, and recently an Irish soda bread.

Who thought snow in the forecast was a good idea?

  8. - Gruntled University Employee - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:40 am:

    Willy,
Everyone being forced to eat their own cooking may answer why there has been a run on toilet paper. :)

  9. - Al - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:43 am:

Not sure how to get a message to the Secretary of State. Their phone does not take messages and I am not finding an email contact.

The State Library is closed. Researchers all over the country request materials every week. The blind throughout Illinois get their Braille and books on tape through their service. My blind friends have gone through their books on tape and I am now taking these tapes and swapping them between blind households. The blind and other shut ins are missing sports programming. Would be nice if the libraries could be reopened to handle requests for material.

  10. - 10th Ward - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:45 am:

Anytime Mother nature wants to warm up the Chicagoland area to over 55 degrees and LEAVE it there cuz maybe it’s Spring? Asking for a friend

  11. - Anyone Remember - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:49 am:

Sorry to see the XFL situation. St Louis football fans (and they are real fans) have been stuck with 2 of the worst owners in NFL history (Bill Bidwill, Stan Kroenke). They deserve better.

  12. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:50 am:

    - Gruntled University Employee -

    “Unintended consequences”? Probably.

    :)

    ===Yeast is hard to find===

Too true. I’ve tried numerous times, finally went all beer bread.

Stir fry is a good exercise (and delicious) while in quarantine. It’s up there with chili, especially with cold weather still milling about.

  13. - Last Bull Moose - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:54 am:

Perspectives differ. Met with my oncologist yesterday. To most of us a 1.5 percent death rate is high. For him that is low. He would be delighted with a 98.5 percent survival rate.

  14. - Cool Papa Bell - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 9:59 am:

What I’ve noticed at home is we are clearly cooking more. Breakfast, lunch and dinner for four. But we no longer throw nearly as much food away. Clearly the rest of the family has learned to appreciate leftovers and not being ready to run for takeout has helped cut our food waste.

  15. - very old soil - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:02 am:

I sit on the couch and watch the squirrels consistently overcoming my attempts to protect the bird feeders. Persistent little rats

  16. - Roman - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:09 am:

    @Bruce

“- 30 -“ is used in journalism to signify the end of a story. It’s often used at the end of a press release as well. I had a professor tell me it is a relic from an old transmission code used when newspapers first started transmitting reports through telegraph.

  17. - Practical Politics - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:12 am:

    @Bruce (no not him):

“30″ is an old newspaper abbreviation when a reporter filed a column to indicated to an editor that it was finished and ready to print as is without further corrections.

  18. - Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:13 am:

We are gardeners who often order seeds, plants and supplies from out-of-state sources. Amazing to see the notices from those companies stating they are overwhelmed with orders and are running out of many stock items including veggie seeds.

People are stuck at home and turning to old-school entertainment.

  19. - Bruce (no not him) - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:15 am:

Thanks Roman. i figured it was something like that.

  20. - Da Big Bag Wolf - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:16 am:

Jeanne Ives sent me an email concerned about vote by mail because some constituents don’t trust the post office.
Are there people in the 6th district who don’t trust the post office?

  21. - Steve Rogers - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:20 am:

@ Da Big Bag Wolf: “When you control the mail, you control….information.”

  22. - Blue Dog Dem - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:22 am:

How full is the McCormick Center?

  23. - Jose Abreu's Next Homer - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:27 am:

I always new WWE professional wrestling was essential. Thanks Florida!

Also in CNC code “M30″ references the end of a program

  25. - RNUG - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:31 am:

== Are there people in the 6th district who don’t trust the post office? ==

Not in the 6th, but I trust the Post Office if I, repeat, I am the one mailing / returning the ballot.

I DON’T trust proposals allowing ballot harvesting (collection) by 3rd parties prior to being mailed.

  26. - Cheryl44 - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:49 am:

The GOP is trying to kill the USPS. I’m posting from my Kindle and can’t copy and paste but searching “GOP and USPS” brings up articles.

  27. - Pundent - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 10:52 am:

=Are there people in the 6th district who don’t trust the post office?=

Yes. Jeanne Ives supporters. And that group would include anyone that sees increased voter access and participation a threat.

A mail ballot is going to go through the same scrutiny or maybe greater scrutiny than one filed in person. There’s absolutely no evidence of vote by mail fraud. It’s simply an attempt at voter suppression.

I can’t take folks seriously who talk about voter fraud but aren’t the least bit concerned about what Russia did in our last election.

  28. - Proud Sucker - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 11:57 am:

===Are there people in the 6th district who don’t trust the post office?===

There is that Flowerfield area between Lombard and Glen Ellyn. Sounds too innocent. Some people are saying zombies.

  29. - OK Boomer - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 11:58 am:

OW and JoanP I have found yeast at Aldi. In some locations Instacart offers Aldi as a place to shop.

  30. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 12:00 pm:

    - OK Boomer -

    Sweet, thanks.

  31. - Captain Obvious - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 1:35 pm:

Very Old Soil - my late father had the same issue with the squirrels. His solution was the Daisy Red Rider bb gun he would never let us have as kids. You probably won’t even hit one but if you do it won’t hurt it. And it’s great fun. Happy hunting.

  32. - Rabble - Tuesday, Apr 14, 20 @ 7:16 pm:

    - Captain Obvious- You’ll put its eye out
