* First in the Sun-Times

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker had some words of advice for Wellington when he visited the famous penguin at the Shedd Aquarium on Sunday.

“All right now, 6 feet apart, everyone,” Pritzker tells a group of penguins in a new video for his social media campaign, #AllInIllinois.

“Wellington, come on back,” Pritzker says, as the Shedd’s oldest — and perhaps most popular — penguin listened and rejoined a group of penguins walking in order — 6 feet apart.

The 60-second video — which also features the governor preaching to sea otters and garden eels — is the latest in Pritzker’s attempt to get residents to stay home and follow health guidelines, like social distancing and washing hands, as the battle continues in the deadly coronavirus outbreak. The latest pitch is intended for the state’s families and children.

“Don’t stand so close to me” - Police … prophetic.

  2. - Nick - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 9:24 am:

I enjoy cute content like this.

    “What is this, Lollapalooza?”

    Best #AllInIllinois video to date.

  4. - 32nd warder - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 9:29 am:

that’s a nice video. they should play it for all the small business owners who will close because the PPP money ran out because large businesses like Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse bled the thing dry. The video will definitely make them feel better.

  5. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 9:29 am:

Cute video with a deadly serious message. Social distancing is the key to winning this fight.

  6. - Skeptic - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 9:41 am:

Wow, 32nd wins the Wet-blanket non-sequitur award for the week.

  7. - former southerner - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 9:42 am:

Nice spot! It gets the important points across in an entertaining manner and apparently also gives the angry old conservatives something to spit and shake their fists at while watching through a fog of animosity and ignorance.

  8. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 9:44 am:

It’s a really good video, well done, with some humor and smiles. Not too dry for kids to dismiss, not too cutesy for adults either.

    Lots to like.

  9. - JoanP - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 9:44 am:

Brilliant. Funny, cute, and to the point.

So, which is easier herding cats or penguins?
    Or legislators?

  11. - efudd - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 10:00 am:

Man, the party doesn’t start until 32nd warder shows up, does it.

  12. - Skeptic - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 10:00 am:

“So, which is easier herding cats or penguins?” Penguins aren’t actively plotting to kill you, so I’d go with (b).

  13. - Amalia - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 10:06 am:

    my cat loves it.

    -32nd warder-

The Governor bears zero responsibility for a federal program that runs out of money. Congress will almost certainly replenish this program, probably today. A program that has saved millions of jobs; in giving credit where credit is due.

    Terrific video!

  15. - Zach Lavine - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 10:17 am:

    Shout out to Brian Dennehy.

    He was big Tom Callahan..

  16. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 10:24 am:

=== He was big Tom Callahan..===

He was a two-time Tony winner, Golden Globe winner, an American Theatre Hall of Famer, and had a decades long relationship with Chicago’s Goodman Theatre.

I can probably go toe-to-toe on Tommy Boy quotes, (is that humble brag or a sad commentary about me… or both?) but Brian Dennehy was truly one of the greats of stage and screen, and a Chicago fixture to boot.

    “I can get a good look at a T-bone by… “

    - Big Tom Callahan

Good Ad to discuss over check in time on Face Time.
Granddaughter liked it. Grandfather like it too.
The Penguins did a good job. We both agree that like the Otter we both have a hard time with remembering to NOT touch our faces.

@OW Willy in my mind I think I had you pegged a bit older than I now think you are. Between your Fortnite reference and firm grasp of Tommy Boy, I suspect you are a fellow member of Gen X.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 10:51 am:

    - Ok Boomer -

I’m old enough to know better but young enough to do it anyway.

    :)

    Mr. Popper returns.

  21. - Ok Boomer - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 11:18 am:

@OW the very definition of our generation. ;)

  22. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 11:20 am:

“I don’t believe in ‘generations‘, I just believe in me”

    - The Walrus, maybe

    :)

  23. - Trapped in the ‘burbs - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 11:22 am:

JB has done a great delivering bad news and trying to
encourage citizens to follow protocols. He is one of the governors around the country that have stepped into the vacuum and provided leadership. You can’t blame anybody for this pandemic but it certainly has shown the difference between real leaders and the pretenders.

  24. - Flapdoodle - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 11:23 am:

32nd warder — Bad day? Have some warm milk or ovaltine perhaps. You’ll feel better.

  25. - Huh? - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 11:26 am:

“I’m old enough to know better but young enough to do it anyway”

I’ll bet that you don’t do it as often or as long, because the aches take longer to go away.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 11:39 am:

    - Huh? -

“I stand by my previous remarks.“

  27. - Eastside - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 11:52 am:

I guess I am alone in this but I think it was ill-advised. Constantly telling people to stay at home and he runs to Shedd and has the run of the place to shoot a video. Kind of seems more like reminding people of what they cannot do rather than stressing what they should do.

  28. - Demoralized - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 12:05 pm:

==Kind of seems more like reminding people of what they cannot do rather than stressing what they should do.==

Kind of seems like he was trying to remind people what to continue to do in a lighthearted manner, which is something people need right now.

    Stop being a Scrooge

  29. - Top of the State - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 12:15 pm:

We all love the penguins. Nice PSA. Looking forward to when these places open up again.

  30. - Rich Miller - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 12:29 pm:

    ===Stop being a Scrooge ===

Meh. That thought occurred to me as well. Don’t really have an opinion one way or the other.

  31. - Cadillac - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 12:47 pm:

I’m interested in La Shawn Ford’s critique.

  32. - theCardinal - Friday, Apr 17, 20 @ 1:29 pm:

Non plussed by the PSA , but it is a nice tie, maybe wear one at the next presser. Starts in 20.
