* A buddy of mine is in Alabama and he says these are everywhere…

Every team should be doing something like this.

When listening to doctors, virologists, and scientists won’t do, turn to a college football coach.

  2. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:19 am:

I was out shopping this weekend and saw lots of people wearing masks. Not everyone, but lots of people.

  3. - Roadiepig - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:23 am:

Yes each team, pro and college, should be doing something like this. We went to our son’s house in a local small town for the fireworks Saturday- good job of social distancing (except for the tight long lines at the funnel cake truck), but less than 5% wearing masks at the crowd, none, except for us and the employees, at the Casey’s general store. The denial is strong in the Base. We can see the results of people following propaganda in the huge outbreaks in the red areas of the country( due to the downplaying of or ignoring the situation by their “news” sources)

    Geez.

  5. - Cubs in '16 - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:26 am:

Yes, when appealing to people’s morality and concern for their follow humans doesn’t work hit them where it really hurts…sports.

  6. - SAP - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:28 am:

Shouldn’t the mask cover the tip of the elephant’s trunk?

  7. - Token Conservative - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:28 am:

There probably isn’t a more well-known figure in the state, so this is great. Gov. Pritzker would be smart to try to enlist Kris Bryant, Tim Anderson, Patrick Kane, etc. for a similar campaign.

Given that Cornavirus seems to be out of control once again (and even more out of control that when this first started) I’m not convinced we are going to see any sports in the fall and possibly any school in the fall. We have failed miserably as a country in getting this pandemic under control. Some states are already pausing their reopening plans and it wouldn’t surprise me if lockdowns resume once again. American arrogance - as in don’t tell me what to do - has caused this problem. We have nobody to blame but ourselves for the outcomes.

  9. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:38 am:

Reminds me of when Louisiana really had hot spots in the state, the Governor has to bring in football coach Ed Orgeron of the national champion LSU Tigers to open the presser to tell people to take the virus seriously.

SEC Football is crazy like that.

    “If coach says…”

  10. - NuancedApproach - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:39 am:

It is amazing to see the pull College football has in SEC country. NCAA and SEC pushing Mississippi to change the flag. Mississippi State player refusing to play until the state changes the flag. Alabama with these adds.

College football is a huge aspect of life down there.

  11. - Bruce( no not him) - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:40 am:

If science fails, turn to football.

===cover the tip of the elephant’s trunk? ===

As long as the elephant keeps it pointed down, it should be fine. /s

  13. - DTAG - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:43 am:

What about for the auburn fans???

  14. - Elijah Snow - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:48 am:

Agreed. A charm offensive would help. I’m pretty sure all those “Support the troops” signs didn’t just appear for no reason when we invaded Iraq under the flimsiest of pretenses.

  15. - NoMoreMC - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:56 am:

Time to resurrect the “Got Milk?” campaign and change it to “Got Mask?”.

  16. - Scott Fawell's Cellmate - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:59 am:

Face mask penalty costs your team 15 yards and an automatic first down.

    Don’t blow the win.

    Respect the face mask.

  17. - Token Conservative - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 9:59 am:

==What about for the auburn fans???==

They’re probably going to elect a former Auburn coach to the Senate, so, who knows?

  18. - Blue Dog Dem - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 10:00 am:

this is why, until a viable mandated vaccine is developed, we are only delaying the inevitable. 1,000,000 plus taggers don’t drink with masks on.

  19. - TheInvisibleMan - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 10:02 am:

    Thoughts?

As a country we’ve seemingly been busy priming the pump for a historical and horrible outbreak this fall. At this point we are just moving around the chairs on the titanic.

At the start of this year we had “just 15 cases”. In just 4 months, almost 130k people have died.

Now, we have a primed ‘pool’ of infection in the tens of thousands, at best. Likely much more than that.

When winter comes, this country is going to see something it never has seen before.

By this time next year, I’m almost certain the death count will be in the millions.

I’m starting to plan for the impacts of this now. Because at this point it is clear there is a large thread of ignorance winding through the fabric of this country, that is going to have fatal consequences.

  20. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 10:07 am:

It would a great move… players from the “Chicago 5“ franchises, U of I downstate…

I’d like to see it. All Sports, One Goal

*Anything* to get others to listen…

  21. - Blue Dog Dem - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 10:14 am:

how does taggers evolve from tailgaters.

  22. - Cheryl44 - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 10:51 am:

I thought they called Alabama the Crimson Tide.

  23. - Proud Sucker - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 11:42 am:

Then I will call you Deacon Blue.

Actually, isn’t that where the boosters deposit the c-notes?

  25. - RNUG - Monday, Jun 29, 20 @ 1:33 pm:

== thought they called Alabama the Crimson Tide. ==

They do. Friend of mine is a huge Bama fan.
