Couple of weeks ago Illinois “lost” the Grand American to Missouri. It’s scheduled to be next month at Lake of the Ozarks. Missouri cases are rising even with their sub-standard testing.
Sports ain’t happening this year folks.
Over 130,000 Americans are dead and another 250,000 are in hospitals across America, separated from their families, and wondering if they are next.
When I get frustrated at the Darren Baileys of the world, when I find myself regretting all the things I have missed and the absences to come, I try to remember this.
I am alive. My family is alive. We are healthy. We have the power to keep ourselves healthy and alive.
It is normal and natural to miss the way things were. But it’s important not to lose sight of the blessings that you have.
I am grateful that Rich is alive too, and still able to provide this forum to bring our community together to share our frustrations and joys, our happiness and our heartbreaks, and hopefully be a bit of a lighthouse on public policy to get us through this fog.
A staff member at a day care on the east side of Chatham (down the street from Glenwood HS) has now tested positive for COVID-19. She was in her 20s–more evidence that the pandemic is increasingly affecting youth and millenials.
Despite it being Springfield city politics, I think this story needs to have more regional/national attention in light of the recent racial unrest after the George Floyd murder.
At last night’s Springfield City Council meeting, controversial Ward 7 alderman Joe McMenamin replied to the issue of broader citywide representation of board/commission memberships by saying that “some neighborhoods have just a quantity of very well educated [people].”
This being Gio Gonzalez’s third time in the Sox organization without yet throwing a pitch for the MLB club, we need to consider whether the possibility of him actually playing on the South Side opened the Seventh Seal over the winter.

“A Springfield development group has acquired a long-vacant building at the southwest corner of Fourth and Adams streets with plans to convert it into a multi-level food hall that will also feature the capital city’s first rooftop bar.”
Bad gamble in this COVID-19 new reality. Even after a vaccine and/or the pandemic brought under control.
