* As we discussed the other day, a poll conducted September 17-20 for the Betsy Dirksen Londrigan campaign has President Trump trailing by 7 points in the 13th Congressional District, 51-44. Trump won that district four years ago by 5.5 points. With that in mind…
Today, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan’s campaign released its fifth television ad, “Real,” which dives into Congressman Rodney Davis’ record of voting to gut health protections for Central Illinois families. Illinois Trump Campaign Co-Chair Rodney Davis has voted with the Trump agenda 91% of the time, including the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, in contrast to Dirksen Londrigan who is committed to ensuring access to quality, affordable health care and preserving the ACA and the Essential Health Benefits that Illinois families rely on.
The 30-second ad will air in the Champaign-Springfield-Decatur media market as part of a districtwide buy that includes broadcast, cable, and digital platforms.
Davis voted 11 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement and repeatedly voted in support of a lawsuit that could lead to the Supreme Court overturning the Affordable Care Act by the end of 2020. Repealing the Affordable Care Act would strip health care coverage from millions, including more than 31,000 in the 13th District, and remove protections from more than 282,500 13th District residents with pre-existing conditions. The repeal would also roll back funding for Medicaid Expansion and risk the closure of rural hospitals, including many in Central Illinois.
“A Supreme Court controlled by Donald Trump could overturn the Affordable Care Act by the end of the year,” said the narrator. “Rodney Davis won’t help us. He votes with Trump and the drug and insurance industries that gave him over $770,000. Davis voted 11 times to gut protections for pre-existing conditions.”
“With the fate of the Affordable Care Act now more uncertain than ever, we can’t trust Rodney Davis to protect our health care,” said campaign spokeswoman Eliza Glezer. “Davis has voted 11 votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act with no replacement which would gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions and strip health care coverage from millions. We need representatives like Betsy Dirksen Londrigan who will fight to ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable health care.”
Solid B, since it references Rodney’s actual voting record, which he seems to always evade using his magic cloak of “bipartisanship”.

Getting to be an easy grader.
The Ad covered health care in a very compelling way. Putting the amount of money being spent by special interest groups caught and kept my attention.
A for this Ad.
I give the ad a C because she hasn’t made the point that saving ACA is prolife.
ACA has greatly reduced the number of abortions and better prenatal care saves unborn babies in the womb.
People are losing coverage because they’re out of work and Davis and others have a long history of working to abolish the ACA. This ad works well in a pandemic given Davis’ record. It reminds us who he is on the topic. I give it a B.
This ad has one pretty significant point in its favor for many of us: it tells the truth about Davis’ votes to repeal the ACA, his 91% record supporting trump, and his donors.
Whether it will change people’s minds is unfortunately another matter altogether.
very gifted.
Timed to land as Trump tries to stuff anti ACA justice just weeks before they hear the Texas case to abolish. Looks like another lap of the exit interview tour done.
Give it a C. It’s a well made ad, and the information contained within is accurate and timely. Yet none of that takes into account that trump supporters, who make up the majority of voters in that district, do not care. They don’t care that Davis lies to them constantly, or that he’s a two-faced rat who says different things to different groups of people, so they certainly aren’t going to care that he’s willing to take away health care coverage from some of his own constituents if it makes his donors more money. What they do care about is that Davis will give their guy trump a free pass every time. Adam Kinzinger couldn’t even win this district for that same reason. Agree with Rizzo’s Hair, changes zero minds and so earns a C.
C - Only because I feel that the message from her only seems to be based on healthcare. It’s not a single issue race so stop running on the single issue.
Also is it odd the narrator didn’t use her whole name and just called her Betsy Londrigan?
===who make up the majority of voters in that district===
===Trashing the Trumpster is not effective in the 13th===
Like I said at the top, they’re trusting their polling which has him down by 7. I do not believe they are alone in believing the president has some real problems in the 13th.
I give it an A- because it features Davis’s repeated votes to repeal protections for pre-existing conditions. That’s a very difficult position for Davis to defend and rightly so.
If you are someone that is worried about health care and have pre existing conditions, this ad speaks directly to you. Right now that is a very broad group of people from both parties.
It is a short, concise, to the point ad that clearly identifies her position and Davis position (worse yet for him- his actions) on the issue.
Some have argued that she is running on a single issue, I am not sure of that logic simply because tis ad is speaking to a single issue. It is a 30 second ad. If those are going to be effective they have to be focused. This one is. It is also factual and the use of numbers is done well and not in any way confusing.
It is an A. I think it is one of the better ads i have seen.
=== Trashing the Trumpster is not effective in the 13th.===
Trump’s handling of a global pandemic is universally panned. That alone, beyond anything else, makes the numbers at least soft or behind, given how low the numbers are in his handling.
It’s a solid B.
The ad calls out the ACA issues and Davis’s record.
You hope the message syncs up with the polling office you’re the campaign (hope isn’t a strategy, they know the answer already.)
=I believe this speaks to a silent (R) population…for whom Trump’s luster may have faded to black.=
Maybe people have finally gotten tired of “winning.” To the extent that there is a compelling argument for Trump’s re-election it seems to be, “remember when the economy was great?” But as the pandemic rages on memories fade and it gets harder and harder for Davis and others to make a case for more of what we currently have.
Ok, up to a point. But she offers no real alternatives for ‘affordable health care.’
Must follow up with many other ads and get more specific. Of course if she really has a solid lead then this ad is just a little more icing on the cake.
B-. Factually correct, and could be even stronger. It is certain that Davis is nervous, based on the increase in attack ads that are appearing on YouTube against Londrigan. curiously, there is one with someone dressed in scrubs that states that Londrigan will close rural hospitals, of course without explanation. He’s also tying her to Madigan and dirty money, a popular tactic for the ILGOP this year.

Healthcare was a powerful issue for Dems in 2018.
Trump’s crusading to abolish the ACA and take coverage away from millions.
Millions losing coverage because they are out of work.
200,000 + dead and tens of thousands more maimed because of Covid - and the situation getting worse in the Midwest.
Health care is a good hit on Rodney. He has no convincing response. He politically lives or dies based on Trump and what Trump has done.
- truthteller - Friday, Sep 25, 20 @ 9:52 am:
davis’s record he constantly lies about and runs away from. Funny how Davis rarely even says “trump”, now we know why.

If having recovered from COVID is deemed a pre-existing condition lots of people won’t be able to get follow up treatment for lingering symptoms.
That said, many Trump supporters will suffer whatever it takes to “own the liberals” and I’m not sure any ad can change that.
