* Wut?…
A state Senator from a region slated for additional COVID-19 restrictions from the Pritzker administration says the governor has too much power flipping the COVID-19 restriction switch. […]
Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s office on Tuesday announced that starting Saturday, Region 1, which includes counties in the northwestern-most part of the state, will have added COVID-19 restrictions such as limits on restaurants and bars. Schools are not impacted by the new mitigations. That’s similar to measures still in place for Region 4 and what was put in place but repealed weeks later in Region 7. […]
“The state with this new power, they can shut any community down anytime they want just by adjusting the positivity rate,” Syverson said. “It makes no sense. These are bureaucrats making bureaucratic decisions.”
And Tom Skilling controls the weather. Right.

Syverson, once celebrated as a Fab Five maverick, now just a Trumpkin, a denier of the virus… because… bureaucrats.
What a sad slide, from Alan Keyes to… this.
Whew.

Senator Syerson may have a Covid fever since he is spouting such absurdities.

- Humboldt - Wednesday, Sep 30, 20 @ 3:28 pm:
The irony is that if Syverson were a strong enough leader he could convince an extra 500, likely negative, region 1 residents to get tested every day he himself would be able to drive that positivity rate down.
- Pundent - Wednesday, Sep 30, 20 @ 3:32 pm:
Yet another example of why we can’t get ahead of this thing. Instead of owning up to the problems that exist in Region 1, Syverson cries “you can’t make me.” Does anybody really believe that Pritzker’s goal is randomly punish these regions? What possible purpose would that serve?
- Lewie - Wednesday, Sep 30, 20 @ 3:35 pm:
Senator Syverson is too good to be buying into, or spouting, this goofiness. It’s not a good look.

Gee, I wonder why every partisan republican I talk to spouts off conspiracy theories…? Maybe it’s because their “leaders” do…?
- OOO - Wednesday, Sep 30, 20 @ 4:14 pm:
This Governor and his people at the IDPH and DCEO have been anything but clear and transparent regarding their “guidance,” “data,” and “science.” And, most of the MSM fails to question the policy decisions in any credible way.

This. All day, everyday, and twice on Sundays.
People here have dropped their guard and are not wearing masks like they were a couple of months ago. Locally we have had several large parties that have spread COVID as well.
It is their fault.

- Quenton Cassidy - Wednesday, Sep 30, 20 @ 4:48 pm:
Sweden - 577 COVID deaths per 1,000,000
United States - 578 COVID deaths per 1,000,000
That’s according to Worldometer. I can’t tell you that’s entirely accurate, and I’m sure there are imperfections in the way both countries count “COVID deaths.”
But here’s the point - you’ll know what the best strategy was when it’s over - not now. Despite the degree of certitude being spouted by some, we’ve never been through this before, so we don’t now know what the best macro-strategy will turn out to be anymore than you know the outcome of a nine inning baseball game in the fifth inning.
Until then, serious people need to objectively evaluate the outcomes as they become apparent, and not evaluate other points of view through a partisan lens nor use other countries as punchlines.

Yeah, about that Sweden thing, again, Dr. Fauci went toe to toe with the eye doctor Rand Paul, covid-19 infectee, and made clear, the Sweden experience, even compared to Norway and other countries in that region was poor, and their model would be catastrophic for the United States.
If you’d like to continue, I’ll cite it, sure, but it was in news… everywhere, simple Google for you should help.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 30, 20 @ 4:55 pm:
You can start here…
===(Dr) Fauci countered that Sweden’s death toll is actually much worse than those of comparable neighboring Nordic countries, however, which did impose lockdown measures early in the pandemic. Sweden’s death toll (5,870) is much higher than those of Norway (267) and Finland (341), according to Johns Hopkins University data, and its case count is also much higher. “I don’t think it’s appropriate to compare Sweden with us,” said Fauci.===
- Captain Obvious - Wednesday, Sep 30, 20 @ 5:06 pm:
Sweden’s experience is not that different from Illinois’, statistically speaking. Difference is they shut down nothing. It makes one wonder if the economic and social cost of the shutdown, which has been enormous in lives ruined, was worth it. The argument can be made in the comparison that Illinois would have faired little worse remaining open. As did South Dakota.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 30, 20 @ 5:08 pm:
===The current U.S. case-fatality rate, or the deaths as a percentage of total cases, is 2.9% according to Johns Hopkins University coronavirus tracker. Sweden’s is 6.6%.===
Dr. Fauci, Capitol Hill.
Dunno if 6+% is a good goal to have, and if that tweeter person is pushing Sweden as a model… dunno if that tweeter is very credible.
