* Tim Novak…
Gov. J.B. Pritzker is dumping an Illinois official who’s under investigation for trying to force a state agency to give President Donald J. Trump a refund of more than $1 million on the property taxes he paid on his Chicago skyscraper eight years ago.
Mauro Glorioso, executive director and general counsel for the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board, will be out of his job as of Thursday as the Trump case continues to cast a cloud over a state agency that’s also grappling with a backlog of about 90,000 tax cases.
The agency’s handling of Trump’s tax appeal — filed by the Chicago law firm of Ald. Edward M. Burke (14th) — has been under investigation since November. That’s when an anonymous complaint was filed with the Illinois Office of the Executive Inspector General, saying Glorioso ordered the agency to approve the $1 million payout for Trump, rejecting a staff report that found no valid reason to support the refund on the tax bill for the Trump International Hotel & Tower’s hotel and commercial space. Trump’s appeal cited vacant storefronts along the Chicago River in seeking the tax cut.
Since April, Glorioso’s staff has repeatedly placed Trump’s proposed refund on PTAB’s monthly agenda — only to have the five-member board of the state agency repeatedly postpone a decision, records show.
Go read the whole thing. And try to take a deep breath before commenting, please. Actually, maybe take two. Or even three.

I’m not going to rant about all the injustices in Illinois government. However, it still amazes me that property tax assessments from 2012 are still being contested and pending. Pertaining to the OEIG, I feel confident in stating that I believe it is a failed entity that does not come close to meeting its stated mission. I wouldn’t hold out hope for any substantive findings from them.

The “good one” is… he paid back the back taxes, AND… won by 16 points… with that issue in ads.
Being the angry in-law uncle to the favorite aunt feels good, but… asked, answered, and voters were “educated” … then decided.

Yeah, but it is.

Yes, he is always so unfairly treated, I mean it is ONLY $1 million./s
The PTAB has been a problem for many years. Big political contributions like Ameren have been very successful with their appeals for many years.

Nope.

… stop using envy or a jealousy to make it seem thoughtful to policy?
See, here’s the thing;
Rauner’s daughter, by Bruce and Diana’s clouting, denied a worthy student.
You not having an equestrian daughter isn’t denying you… anything.
If you want to argue the bad, outside the asked, answered, decided, have at it. This idea of “another” thing to add on already paying back the taxes AND winning by 16 points with ads on that point… isn’t helping.

The toilet thing - asked and answered, a non-issue now.
One thing of interest - the PTAB is still sitting on a 2012 assessment appeal of the Byron nuclear plant, involving a whole lot more money than Trump’s case.

Speaking only for southern Illinois, we are on anything but lock-down mode.

I think the point that was being made was there are probably many other huge tax breaks being given under suspicion yet they don’t get brought to light because the name isn’t trump. Btw I agree, trump is his own worse enemy.

Huh.
What exactly is locked down. If there are bolts on your doors, I’d call a locksmith.

Choices you make can effect you, and your employment.
Like… choosing to try to force a state agency to give President Donald J. Trump a refund of more than $1 million on the property taxes he paid on his Chicago skyscraper eight years ago.
At some point, pushing things in that manner *might* be frowned upon… at least.

Trump want $1 million refund because he hasn’t rented street level shopping and he isn’t making as much money as he wanted.

The ED pushed for a $1 Million tax refund over staff objections. Ed Burke was the lawyer. A complaint was filed with the inspector General.
All of things are newsworthy, and none of them would likely have occurred without Trump in the middle of it all.

That of course assumes that there are cases like this where the name “Trump” isn’t attached.
- Back to the Future - Tuesday, Oct 13, 20 @ 10:16 am:
The problem seems more serious than the involvement of Ald. Burke or the Trump family in a tax appeal.
Not sure how the Pritzker, Rainer and Quinn administrations could sit around and let a 90,000 caseload build up.
Perhaps the solution might be to switch to a daily or weekly meeting schedule from a monthly schedule until they catch up.
These board members get a Very pretty high compensation package and should put in more effort. If they need more money then attach a fee appropriate to the cost of processing these cases.
I don’t mean to criticize the gentleman that was terminated as the job seems difficult, but glad to see Team
Pritzker approaching what looks like a big problem.

If the lawyer were not Burke it would have been rejected and forgotten long ago. That is the key point.

Well, the troll appears to be gone…but I’m fairly certain he can travel to wherever will allow him to come in. Airlines are looking for passengers and I have relatives that are driving south for the winter. So if you are brave enough, you can travel.
I am also amazed that arguments are still going on for 2012. I’ve never appealed a property tax in my life as mine all seem to be fairly evaluated. I also expect them to go up since we are enclosing our porch. But then, I don’t have millions of dollars to waste appealing taxes just because.

Actually he use to be a board member. The current administration didn’t reappoint him to the board but he was given the open ED job. More money but I’m guessing more actual work.

How can someone who sees the problems we have with property tax assessments support a wealth tax? Talk about an opportunity for unbounded corruption.
- Froganon - Tuesday, Oct 13, 20 @ 11:52 am:
It’s time for a 5 year statute of limitations for property tax appeals. If you can’t figure it out in 5 years, no filing, no refund. This would, of course, require cleaning up the backlog first.
=Lost in all this is the fact if the name trump want attached to it there wouldn’t be a word said.=
So if there is any corruption, favortiism or error everyone else gets a free pass - baloney. Trump has bled taxpayers in evey state with his grift and corruption. No more special deals for Trump or Trump properties, especially if reoresented by Burke or Madigan

It’s called the vacancy relief provision and both Pritzker and Trump and others applied for it and got it. The Vacancy Relief Provision is not a good idea. We should get rid of it and instead have a grant program that people could apply for separately if they have a vacant property that needs fixing up.
We shouldn’t be funding a billionaire’s hobby mansion or another billionaire’s unpopularity.

Someone like me? I think both are true. Not sure either means corruption. Some things are designed badly, that is my opinion of the vacancy relief provision.
One is local and one is statewide.

So DT asked for it and Burke pushed for it yet the anger here is directed at DT?? Dont we all take deductions that apply and I bet a majority here have asked for property tax reduction. The anger should be directed at Ed I think..

I think the anger is at Mario Glorioso for ignoring his staff: “That’s when an anonymous complaint was filed with the Illinois Office of the Executive Inspector General, saying Glorioso ordered the agency to approve the $1 million payout for Trump, rejecting a staff report that found no valid reason to support the refund on the tax bill for the Trump International Hotel & Tower’s hotel and commercial space.“

just saying, you obviously didn’t read the article. He was appointed Executive Director/General Counsel by Gov. Pritzker last year. He also worked at PTAB/was a board member for 20 years.
