* As always, keep it Illinois-centric and be polite to each other. Also, while I have you, a few folks with iPhones have said the site is crashing their browsers. I think I’ve isolated the problem, but addressing it will probably have to wait until the weekend. Sorry about that. Anyway, carry on.

Summer is back here in the Springpatch area but have no fear, the forecast looks like Fall will finally take over starting tomorrow.

  2. - Not a Pol - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 8:07 am:

The Queen of Debt at the City of Chicago is back to her typical playbook of scoop and toss bond restructurings in order to balance the budget. Same playbook used for CPS.

  3. - OneMan - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 8:10 am:

For what it is worth, the site lately seems to work better on Microsoft Edge vs Chrome.

  4. - hisgirlfriday - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 8:29 am:

Bloomington mayor Tari Renner just announced he is not running for reelection. Between that open seat and the Normal mayoral race setting up to be a rematch between a challenger and the incumbent who won by 7 votes last time, it appears politics shall remain hot and heavy in McLean County even after November.

  5. - Anonymous - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 8:30 am:

    Having the same problem.

  6. - Skeptic - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 8:36 am:

“Summer is back here in the Springpatch” Yeah, look at Monday’s forecast. Ick.

  7. - walker - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 8:55 am:

Still moderately long outside lines, even with chilly rain, in NW burbs early polling. Everyone acting respectfully, from what I hear. Some sunshine would help.

(A few are obsessing over signs, but that’s normal.)

  8. - Huh? - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 9:04 am:

Am dealing with fraudulent IDES claim. Have to file police report, contact banks, file FTC identity theft report, obtain credit reports, freeze credit reports. What a mess.

You are, by far, not the only one. I know of at least three people with the same problem. I’m a little surprised there is not more reporting on this. Was there a theft of information from IDES? How were these claims made? I assume you need a ss# to make a claim, how did they get the ss#??

  10. - Club J - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 9:21 am:

As the COVID positivity rate is going up around the state. I see Darren Bailey and Tom DeVore couldn’t pass up this opportunity to file suit against the Governor once again. One hasn’t to wonder what goes through their minds when filing these lawsuits.

  11. - Independent - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 9:21 am:

Two Central IL mayors will not pursue re-election: Ardis in Peoria and Renner in Bloomington.

=== a few folks with iPhones have said the site is crashing their browsers====

It definitely has something to do with JavaScript. Mine was crashing but if I turn off JavaScript it works fine. But I need to turn it back on right away after as I didn’t realize how many other sites don’t work without it.

  13. - Pot calling kettle - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 10:04 am:

=== a few folks with iPhones have said the site is crashing their browsers====

I’ve been having the same issue for a week or so. I have an older iPhone, so I feel better knowing it’s not just my phone.

  14. - Huh? - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 11:07 am:

LA - I found out about the fraudulent IDES claim when I i was asked by my employer’s personnel office if I had submitted an unemployment claim.

There have been so many hacks of sensitive personal information that your SSN is out in the wild. One that comes to mind is Experion, the credit reporting agency, got hacked a few years ago.

As far as a claim being filed, it was likely filed electronically.

  15. - DownSouth - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 11:26 am:

Bought a new washer and dryer today- the 30+ year old set finally went toes up.
    The Good:
    1. Local small town hardware store had appliances in stock, and just what I wanted.
    2. Local small town hardware has STRICT masking policy that they enforce along with distancing etc. (well, we are in southern IL you know)
    3. Delivered for free - and hauled off the old.
    4. Delivery team was masked on arrival, performed cleaning of appliance and hands etc. before entering our house, were most cheerful and pleasant. Thanked us for also wearing masks while they were in the house.

    The Bad:
It took 2 senior citizen hippies three hours to figure out the technology to do a load of laundry! But by golly we have it figured out now!

Wringer washers. Seriously what ever happened to wringer washers? I want one of those again!

  16. - tea_and_honey - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 11:42 am:

My employer sent out an email this week saying that they’d been receiving a lot of these fraudulent claims and gave us instructions on what to do if we received any type of communication from IDES. Seems like a wide spread issue.

Site has been crashing fairly regularly for me in Chrome.

Hulu has seen the light and has dropped the Cubs’ Marquee network and other Sinclair regional sports networks:

    https://chicago.suntimes.com/2020/10/22/21528902/hulu-drops-cubs-marquee-sports-network-sinclair-broadcast-group

I didn’t see anything on whether Sinclair stations (Channel 20 in Springfield among them) are included in this. (I don’t have Hulu or other streaming services–just limited basic Comcast and their internet, so I don’t know if local TV channels are on Youtube and if so, if those from the Springfield/Decatur/Champaign TV market are carried).

  18. - Chatham Resident - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 1:38 pm:

Bruce Rushton has a story in today’s Illinois Times about the Feed Store restaurant owner (featured in recent Londrigan campaign ads) decision not to apply for PPP funds despite saying the contrary in the campaign ads:

==Still moderately long outside lines, even with chilly rain, in NW burbs early polling.==

Per Weather Underground, its still low 50s (and even some upper 40s) into the 60s in northern Illinois, with 70s and higher once you get along and north of I-80. 54 in Waukegan while 71 in Joliet. And already into the 80s in Springfield.

This weather is not helping the immune system at all during this virus fight.

  20. - Chatham Resident - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 1:45 pm:

70s and higher once you get South of 80, I meant to say.

  21. - Huh? - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 2:09 pm:

It was Equifax not Experion that got hacked. My mistake.

  22. - Winderweezle - Thursday, Oct 22, 20 @ 4:55 pm:

Illinois Supreme Court published People v Lusby today.

It is another Third Appellate case that McDade authored that is being reversed. I keep threatening to tally up her record in the Illinois Supreme Court. It can’t be good.

Justice McDade is up for retention and is recommended for retention by IBA.

Down South’s post was definitely priceless.
