While I know that politics and bean bag, there is one part of this ad that clearly, in my mind, crosses the line. Its brief, but unmistakable. Its a shot of a person putting a stack of $50 bills into his coat pocket, while discussing how Kilbride “cast the deciding vote”. If false light claims in political campaigns were possible, under the NYT v. Sullivan standard, this would clearly IMO be grounds. Even for me, who loves rough and tumble political ads, this crosses the line.
I give it a B for effectiveness. It is concise and gives voters at least some basis for making a vote in a type of race that many care/know little about. Whether it is true or not is another matter.
Is there a GOP ad that does not mention/blame Madigan for everything? Get some new material please. The Geico and Lib Mutual producers might be available.
=== Who is the person most responsible for everything wrong with Illinois politics over the past few decades?===
“By nearly every measure, Illinois is worse off with Bruce Rauner… “
Governors… own.
Election results show it.

It’s a B+, A-
“Why?”
The thing about “Fire Madigan”, if you can define, clearly, who you are and what you’re about, the falloff seems to line up with the mitigating factor denting, not damaging.
In the statewide proxy of Mendoza/Munger, as a good proxy example, the proxy of both Rauner AND Madigan, Mendoza as a candidate was able to even the message.
Kilbride has no foil like Mendoza did, and Kilbride as a known entity was low, so tying him to Madigan resonates better than typical GA races, with folks able to say and be who they are.
If Kilbride goes down, I think the impact of Madigan is big to the exact relationship to Kilbride’s unknown.
I agree with OW logic, not necessarily the ad. It will be very easy to vote no. People do not know their Supreme Court Justice by and large. They don’t like Madigan, they don’t like the direction of Illinois and they are probably looking for some one-to blame. It is an easy no vote. I predict a loss.
Do you really think things are better in Illinois now than under Bruce Rauner?
Tell us more about how the situation in Illinois has improved now that Democrats control all 3 branches of government.
Has record outmigration stopped?
Has our #47 ranking in unemployment improved?
Has the budget stabilized or are we the only state in the union borrowing from the Fed currently?
Has trust in state government been restored or is it at an all time low with the indictments and federal investigations?

Wasn’t the last pension case before the Illinois Supreme Court decided by a 7-0 opinion?

Dave McKinney’s WBEZ story on Kilbride yesterday is very good. Kilbride addresses the Madigan question.

It took a pandemic to make things worse than the Rauner years.

How is it that Raunerites can’t win elections if all you say is true?
Don’t say “Gerrymandering”, Rauner lost by the largest margin a sitting Republican ever lost… in 100 years.
