Tuesday, Nov 3, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller * Keep in mind that most election authorities will report mail-in and early vote ballots first, then move on to precinct results. But some authorities, like suburban Cook, have a backlog of mailed ballots that may not be counted until very late tonight or even in the coming days. Also, I’m told there were a ton of provisional votes today, partly because people requested mail-in ballots and then didn’t fill them out and then voted on election day without bringing those ballots with them. Oops. That could take a while to deal with. Anyway, here we go…

I once had to stop another election judge from disenfranchising someone who did just that. He basically just didn’t want to fill out the paperwork. Not fun.

Illinois continues to expand opportunities for voters, but as in past expansions, there are growing pains.
Same day registration ?
No-cause absentee voting (i.e. early voting) ?
Vote by mail ?
Each time there were hiccups in the first election where the franchise was expanded, and each time we counted every vote.
But we get better every election, more effective, more efficient, less drama, less wonky, more confident.

Wow. If the CA doesn’t get 50 percent that speaks volumes.
With Foxx/O’brien race being “close” by CC standards I wonder how this changes the discussion on judicial reforms at the state level. Ending cash bail DOA?

@OswegoWilly you hanging in there big guy?

The Kilbride result is a wake-up call for Dems. No other state requires 60% for retention. Dems need to change it to simple majority, have justices run statewide instead of in districts, and add seats to the court to offset what will now almost certainly be a Republican majority.

I’m good, thanks.
Dems are who you need to ask how they feel.

@1st Ward, public response to civil unrest across the country also a factor. you can be tough on crime and still work for justice. democrats have to figure out how to do that. Foxx will have to figure out how to handle her own case…ARDC.

How can a judge get 55% of the votes and lose?
