Thursday, Dec 3, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller * Stay on Illinois-centric topics and be polite while doing so. Thanks. Also, thanks to those who have donated so far to our Lutheran Social Services of Illinois fundraiser. We’ve raise more than $8,000 since yesterday afternoon. Let’s keep it up, please. The money we raise will buy Christmas presents for kids served by LSSI’s programs, as well as to make sure the children have essentials like coats and boots for the winter. Click here.

Do the White Sox take a flier on Schwarber? They could use some pop against righties.

I saw Springsteen and the E Street Band live three times at the United Center. Once at Comiskey Park when the electricity went out. And once standing in center field at Wrigley in the rain. I am looking forward to us getting past this pandemic so I can see him at least one more time at one of our great Illinois venues.

It’s a good thing you are doing raising money for those less fortunate. As miserable as this time has been for everyone, it is much harder than usual for many. Whether LSSI or the Greater Chicago Food Depository or many other non profits, we all should find an organization that is helping others and help them do it. Happy holidays to all!

Fun fact, Jupiter and Saturn are getting closer to each other, as they near their once-in-20-years conjunction on December 21st. Since activities are a bit limited at the moment might be something worth watching each night as they get closer to each other.
Further fun fact, Illinois has it’s first dark sky park at Middle Fork River Forest Preserve outside of Champaign since 2019. DNR also has a list of good star gazing locations.

Rough night for the Illini.

Great weather in Illinois yesterday and today, and the next week or so it looks like. It belies the pandemic going on.
Well wishes to anyone struggling during these strange times.
For those in a better place, enjoy the calm before the storm. New president, new congress, new IL GA. Should be an interesting 2021.

Kofi looks like he hasn’t really changed much and when teams focus on shutting down Ayo, the Illini still lack a true scoring threat. Miller will become one in time but for now, as Ayo and Kofi go so go the Illini.

as predicted the Illini are indeed overrated.

I’m fretting on the Schwarber issue, Chicago Vinny. he does not grab my favor and not just cause he was a dreaded Cub. but we do need a bat.

Did Lori Lightfoot really make a bet?

Although the Illini were disappointing last night, Illinois State broke a few school and NCAA records? Granted it was a D-3 school who decided to full court press the whole game. Scored 177 points (not a typo) on 86% shooting (NCAA record)

Nope. Illini stayed with one of the best teams in the country despite two of their premier players under performing. Baylor is good. Real good. Probably the best defensive team in the country. Exactly the kind of game Illini needed. Underwood can coach. The Illini team you saw last night wont be the team you see in March. Regardless, haters gonna hate.

The Cubs parting ways with Schwarber is 2+ years overdue.
The ball club shoulda traded him, after giving him a half season victory lap to thank him for his World Series heroics, but even before his injury, Schwarber was a DH player, but even then, he *is* a .230 hitter that might take someone yard as one of the hits he does get.
Theo failed (how can anyone say Theo failed, he gave, at least for me, the greatest Cubs season of my lifetime, but… ) is Theo is loyal to a fault, and I love that about him, and I personally understand it, but you can’t run a ball club with your major pieces like Schwarbs (his take, not mine) rarely lining up to the needs of the ball club.
Parted ways with Arrieta, that was frowned on, but always looked smart in the end, couldn’t with Schwarbs, and never back filling with trades for pitching… I know, I’ll stop (sigh)
Sign Bryant to trade Bryant, move Contreras for a solid AA arm, nothing less, build around Baez, Rizzo, even Hendricks, but if they’re finally going to blow up the Big Club, get some solid AA and AAA prospects, don’t get to a point of “no tender offer” anymore.

“Did Lori Lightfoot really make a bet?”
It wouldn’t surprise me especially if you see what she celebrates with after passing the budget each year. Given CTU backed Preckwinkle and Lightfoot mopped the floor with her (won all 50 wards) she and her staff new CTU would strike regardless to try and damage her politically.

Anyone know the story with Melissa Conyers Ervin Irving her staff?
- Chatham Resident - Thursday, Dec 3, 20 @ 12:46 pm:
SJ-R is putting subscriber paywalls on this story, but they’re reporting that Boone’s Saloon is now totally closed temporarily. But they are under new management and will reopen simply as “Boone’s” next month:

Also, they’re reporting that the new Springfield Portillos will be opening Dec. 8. At the worst possible time to traverse Parkway Pointe, where it’s located and before Portillos is home to the worst street infrastructure in Springfield.

Illini are fine. Baylor is really, really good and the game was tight most of the way.
