*** UPDATED x1 *** Yednock won’t say whether he will vote to reelect Madigan

Wednesday, Dec 9, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Derek Barichello of Shaw Media

When asked Monday if he would support Madigan, [Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa] replied: “I will evaluate all candidates to see what their plan is for our state and if those are in line with the values of the Illinois Valley and our working class sensibilities.” […]

In a September interview with the Shaw Media Local News Network editorial board, Yednock said he wanted to wait to see how the investigation goes before he calls for any resignation.

“I’m not going to call for anybody’s removal unless they are convicted,” Yednock said. “I will do that to a friend or political foe. I think due process still has to be the law of the land.”

*** UPDATE *** Jim Dey

In a bid to keep his job, Democratic Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan appeared over the weekend before members of the Democratic Black Caucus.

He’s expected to win the group’s endorsement, and state Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, said she intends to follow that lead.

“I’m going to support the position of the caucus,” Ammons said.

She said it will be “no surprise” if the caucus endorses the beleaguered Madigan’s tenuous bid for re-election to another term as speaker because of the assistance Madigan has given to the group’s policy priorities.

Ammons also said she will be pleased to support Madigan because “he’s helped (my) district” on university- and hospital-funding issues.

While he didn’t say no, not exactly a ringing endorsement.

yeah. “no comment” would have been a better response here. big yikes

“I’m not going to call for anybody’s removal unless they are convicted,”- I think others in the legislature have been told to resign long before a conviction, The Speaker is no different. Everyone knows he is guilty just that they hope there is not enough evidence brought forward to charge or convict him.

Any word on when Madigan is going to get that Black Caucus endorsement?

    Translation

“I’ll vote for whoever Madigan asks to me vote for”

“I’m not going to call for anybody’s removal unless they are convicted,

Sad how so many elected officials set the bar so low, no wonder trust in government is so low.

Brings back memories of the enlistment scene from Stripes will Bill Murray and Harold Ramis

Is Madigan’s fortunes changing? Will we witness his last hurrah?

People wager on ALL sorts of silly things. Heck for the Super Bowl, one can bet on the coin toss. You can bet on horses, dogs, sports, cards, dice etc. Maybe someone can post odds on MJM getting re-elected-AND- odds of the next
Speaker (assuming it’s not MJM). Example, let’s say Will Davis might be 15-1 but a Jim Durkin would be 2,000-1 or maybe a Greg Harris as 20-1? Ya get the point…C’mon Sports Books out there –LET’S GO!

This from a guy who campaigned that he wouldn’t be anybody’s puppet in Springfield.

Fascinating. You can know he is guilty but can’t convict him. Conviction is exactly how someone is found guilty.

For the remaining Downstate Dems in potentially swing districts (Yednock, Halpin, Scherer, Stuart) let’s review this week’s headlines:

“Rep. Lance Yednock non-committal on speaker vote”

“Halpin noncommittal on keeping Madigan as Illinois speaker”

    Rep Scherer? Rep Stuart?
Has the media inquired as to your views (or non-views) on the Speaker’s election?

No doubt reflecting statewide polling, I’m sure the Speaker’s numbers are in the tank in those districts.
Fair Tax Amendment (which they all voted for; heck, Halpin even decided he wanted to cosponsor it!) went down in flames.
And while I have not crunched exact numbers, I assume Trump did well in their districts, with the exception of Halpin.

Strong is the Dark Side in those of these districts.

he’s a union guy for madigan who doesn’t want to take the heat for being for Madigan.

  15. - SpiDem - Wednesday, Dec 9, 20 @ 3:07 pm:

Anyone Democrat from a downstate district who votes for the Speaker isn’t just taking a huge risk, they increase the likelihood of a tough primary. Downstate democrats have had an awful relationship with Madigan’s political team for decades. He only comes in for certain House races, treats the locals badly, refuses to adapt campaign tactics for rural areas, and more often than not, loses races. The entire reason ILDCCA exists is because of how badly DPI handles downstate party building.
