* Well, that weekend went by too fast.

  1. - West Side the Best Side - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 9:17 am:

Didn’t go too fast for folks who had to move about 10 inches plus of snow from sidewalks and driveways.

  2. - Politi-no - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 9:18 am:

Brendan had a great story about Speaker Welch in The Pentagraph.

Or maybe it was Brenden in The Pantagraph.

    Who knows anymore?

  3. - Cable Line Beer Gardener - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 9:24 am:

Why did I think I didn’t need a snow thrower?

  4. - OneMan - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 9:30 am:

When the youngest headed off to school I got a much more powerful snow blower. After that one, have to say I am glad I did.

  5. - Responsa - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 9:30 am:

It’s a gorgeous view from inside the house looking out at the snowy landscape this morning. But I hear many of the roads and especially side streets and sidewalks are quite treacherous. If you’re able to stay in today yourself, but are ordering meal delivery, please be sure to tip the delivery drivers commensurately.

  6. - MakePoliticsCoolAgain - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 9:36 am:

Weekend went by way to fast, but this is the first, non-holiday Monday I am excited about in I don’t know how long. PS - keep an eye on AMC and GME this week..

  7. - Cool Papa Bell - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 9:56 am:

Looked at the weather radar this weekend. There was a time when it was either raining or snowing across the entire state of Illinois and most of Indiana.

Massive storm - but with the local droughty conditions in CIL a good rain was needed.

  8. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 9:59 am:

Lots of shoveling this weekend, six times. It’s a good way to get at the big snows, so that the jobs are easier. Still, that was a lot of snow.

  9. - John Lopez - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:02 am:

Among the 3 finalists Scott Gryder, Mark Shaw and Don Tracy, who will win IL Republican chairmanship Saturday, and who should win?

  10. - 47th Ward - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:03 am:

It’s the alleys up here. I shoveled out the area behind my garage, but most of my neighbors haven’t yet. I was able to get my car out of the garage, but there were two other cars already hopelessly stuck in the alley so I couldn’t get anywhere anyway.

Wish I had one of those neighbors with a snowplow on my block. Until then, at least I have ibuprofen.

  11. - Amalia - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:07 am:

I keep thinking that if I regard this as a “let’s make a snowfort” snow that I will embrace the endless shovel/snowblower cycle. Not every neighbor handles their snow biz in ways that are helpful. more snow for me.

  12. - Back to the Future - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:10 am:

I read the Ad from the Black business advocate.
This program has had problems for years. It always seems to overpromise and underdeliver.
There really is no excuse for not moving forward after years of ignoring the law as it is written.
The idea seems sound and our new Speaker has raised his concerns in the past. I always thought his raising concerns about this problem was a big plus for him.
Perhaps it is time for our General Assembly to have hearings and get to the cause of the problems.

  13. - Essential State Employee - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:12 am:

SEIU successfully petitioned the Governor to place those Secretary of State employees working in in-person customer service positions (especially at drivers’ facilities) as part of Phase 1B:

    https://seiu73.org/2021/01/gov-pritzker-agrees-to-local-73-request-for-vaccinations-for-secretary-of-state-workers/

They are also still pushing for all remaining SOS employees, including those not working with the public, to get vaccinated soon.

  14. - Sledding, Esq. - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:13 am:

I’m in my late 30s and went sledding for the first time in maybe 15 years with a couple friends. It was just nice to see a crowd of people having fun. Thankfully due to weather almost everyone was wearing masks regardless.

  15. - Nearly Normal - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:28 am:

My brother died in June, 2019. On Friday, I got two pieces of mail from IDES in his name. Yep, someone used his name and applied for unemployment. Then Saturday came the debit card in his name.

I called this morning and got my name and number in their system for return call. Wonder how many days it will take for that call to occur.

  16. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:28 am:

    === who should win?===

Whomever is willing to work with Adam Kinzinger to rid the party of the racists, insurrectionists, and the conspiracy theorists.

    Easy question.

  17. - John Lopez - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:31 am:

For an “easy question” you were stumped OW, so now give us a name.

  18. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:36 am:

    ===you were stumped===

    No. I wasn’t.

If none of those three are willing to eradicate racists, insurrectionists, and conspiracy theorists, then why look at the state party as a serious organization willing to be a political party.

It’s not to me to pick, or choose among those three, it’s up to them to realize Kinzinger is right in this charge to better the party and our country.

If the state party sees Mary Miller as a worthy person in this discussion, as an example, then why even worry what the ILGOP leadership is, it’s choosing Miller (no relation to a Rich) over Kinzinger… and that’s not gonna help the ILGOP be competitive in Illinois.

    It’s an easy answer;

Whomever is willing to work with Adam Kinzinger to rid the party of the racists, insurrectionists, and the conspiracy theorists.

  19. - Commisar Gritty - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:37 am:

I agree with the weekend going fast and propose a do-over. Can I get a second?

  20. - Simple Simon - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:39 am:

Only a couple of inches downstate, but I ran the snowblower anyway. Hadn’t started it yet this year and didn’t want to miss my chance. Not sure I ran it last year either.

  21. - Commisar Gritty - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:40 am:

    OW

I wish that were the case but if current national trends are anything to go by, ILGOP will sooner elect someone more in line with Marjorie Taylor Greene than Adam Kinzinger. Dog help us all

  22. - Responsa - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:44 am:

The sooner Adam K. is allowed to be viewed and positioned not as a savior of some sort but as a normal human being who has some good ideas, considerable political skills, and also some downsides, is when people will pay attention. Falling in love with a politician is always a bad idea.

  23. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:46 am:

=== ILGOP will sooner elect someone more in line with Marjorie Taylor Greene than Adam Kinzinger. … help us all===

    Yep.

And, I’ve said, I’ll know right off how this will roll, it’ll make my decisions real easy going forward.

Kinzinger needs people willing first to stand up to racists, insurrectionists, and conspiracy theorists, then be willing to rid the party of them. Sadly, that is a big minority right now in the GOP, and seemingly in the ILGOP(?), and a huge ask. I’m pulling for Kinzinger, but it’s not an easy road, might even be a dead end, frankly

  24. - Dotnonymous - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 10:58 am:

The GOP is nearly in extremis…Kinzinger’s attempt to resuscitate is laudable…at least.

  25. - Stu - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:10 am:

Got my 1st dose of the Moderna vaccine on Saturday at the Tinley Park Convention Center. They ran a very smooth operation and it looks like they can scale up the numbers quickly. The National Guard soldier who gave me the shot says they were doing 2100/day last week and are moving to 3100/day this week.

  26. - John Lopez - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:20 am:

Guess OW would rather take Republicans he don’t agree with and send them to places like Manzanar instead of seeking common ground. The only thing Kinzinger’s attempting to resuscitate is his bid for governor, but Gary Rabine already becoming my favorite.

  27. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:21 am:

=== would rather take Republicans he don’t agree with and send them to places like Manzanar instead of seeking common ground===

You seek common ground with racists, insurrectionists, and conspiracy theorists?

That’s an odd thing to tout trying to make my thoughts seem… odd, lol

  28. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:24 am:

=== Gary Rabine already becoming my favorite.===

Didn’t Gary Rabine hosts folks this past October who incited the insurrection on January 6th?

    Whew.

  29. - Jason - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:26 am:

It went way to fast. I too old to shovel snow.

  30. - John Lopez - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:40 am:

OW: No one I know of. Who specifically are you talking about, and please, use names?

  31. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:42 am:

    Hmm.

“Donald Trump Jr., son of President Donald Trump, and Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle visited Woodstock last week to speak at a Trump rally at Bull Valley Golf Club.

The event took place Oct. 13 and featured an indoor meet-and-greet fundraiser with Guilfoyle and Donald Trump Jr., followed by an outdoor rally that ran from 5 p.m. until about 7:30 p.m.

Event host Gary Rabine said he was able to draw the big names using his connections within a few Republican organizations to convince the Trump campaign that it would be worth their while.”

    Google is your friend?

  32. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:47 am:

    Oh. - John Lopez -…

    There’s even a YouYube video.

I’ll let you use the Google key for that.

    Enjoy.

  33. - Joe Bidenopolous - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:49 am:

===It’s the alleys up here. ===

Wife and I were just talking about this. She asked why our alley is passable but so many others aren’t and the reason is that the homeowners at either end band together to clear it. I never realized that didn’t happen in other hoods up here.

Built a legit igloo with the kids yesterday - big enough for an adult and two kids inside. Pretty comfortable too

  34. - don the legend - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:59 am:

John Lopez: “Stay down, stay down.”

  35. - striketoo - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 11:59 am:

“ The GOP is nearly in extremis…Kinzinger’s attempt to resuscitate is laudable…at least.”
I think that you misspelled “laughable”.

  36. - John Lopez - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 12:13 pm:

No Don, I’m Paul Newman, of Cool Hand Luke and believe me, OW is no “Drag Line” (would be nice if blog publishes all my comments)

  37. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 12:17 pm:

=== would be nice if blog===

Don’t you write for *another* blog?

If one ignores those who incited an insurrection, they probably can’t speak to first building a party, let alone uniting a country.

  38. - Dotnonymous - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 12:18 pm:

What do you suggest in the way of going forward…@striketoo?

A two party system needs two …Yes?

  39. - Rich Miller - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 12:22 pm:

===would be nice if blog publishes all my comments===

    Then stop haranguing other commenters.

  40. - Essential State Employee - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 12:24 pm:

Subject to federal approval, Gray Television will be purchasing Quincy Media, Inc.

This affects Quincy Media’s flagship WGEM-TV/Radio as well as WEEK Peoria and WREX Rockford. Current Quincy-owned station WSIL Harrisburg will be divested:

  41. - John Lopez - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 12:39 pm:

=== Then stop haranguing other commenters ===

Showing where someone’s not telling the truth isn’t “haranguing”, it’s being honest.

  42. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 12:40 pm:

    === it’s being honest.===

    Your alternative facts aren’t honest.

It’s not unlike Oberweis thinking the election he lost, he still won.

  43. - John Lopez - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 1:06 pm:

=== Your alternative facts aren’t honest.

It’s not unlike Oberweis thinking the election he lost, he still won.===

Attitudes like this is why Trumpism is here to stay.

  44. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 1:09 pm:

=== Attitudes like this is why Trumpism is here to stay.===

    LOL

Talk about projection, Oberweis lost, like Trump Oberweis can’t admit it?

You blame my attitude for that?

  45. - Essential State Employee - Monday, Feb 1, 21 @ 2:45 pm:

I love the title of the Sun-Times article about Bucs’ defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, who had been considered a few years ago for a similar job with the Bears.

“Bucs coordinator Todd Bowles Shows the Bears What Might Have Been.”

Very appropriate title as it concerns the Bears, since much of their history (especially post-Ditka and even post-Super Bowl win) is nothing more than “what might have beens” and “what could have been.”
