I have a group outing in July that I hope comes off and I just got a preferred email for the opening homestand that I can buy tickets for on the 24th. Looking forward to watching these guys in person.

I am hoping that Eloy can improve in the field to respectable. Schwarber was horrible and became passable. That would be good enough.

Sox need a DH bat (would have loved Nelson Cruz), but Jerry is “all-in” this season: they’ll see what they have and then be willing to trade/spend (i.e., sign other teams’ high salary players) to fill in the gaps. There will be plenty of sellers this year.
I so badly want to be excited for the Sox. Man, Jerry Reinsdorf a la Tony La Russa has sucked all the Sox love out of me. It’s like when a someone breaks up with you, then you get back together and want it to be like it was. But it’s not. It’s just not. Maybe winning will cure this depression.
=Schwarber was horrible and became passable. That would be good enough.=
I don’t recall Schwarber ever being passable in the field. Eloy was better in the field last year than Schwarber ever was, and getting better.
They are similar though, both were cubs at one time and neither are now. They both hit big homers. But Eloy can hit for average and field his position.
Best time of the season, hope is springing eternal.
Think both Chicago clubs need fast starts, Cubs to offset what is going to be a very uneven season with a ball club probably riding hot and cold streaks… and the Sox to set the tone and the pace for the division, stacking win on win, winning the next series and riding some talent still fresh.
Super excited.
Then there’s the real treat of “west coast baseball” from 9 til midnight on in the background, also while catching the talent and info on some really talented clubs out west (San Diego and the Dodgers for openers)
Got to see Eloy when he was with the Emeralds. Sorry he didn’t get to stay w/the Cubs but v happy for the Sox, plus I still get to watch him (& Cease) play.
Schwarber still had that catcher’s arm and over time became very proficient at modifying it for the outfield. If he got to the ball, one was a fool to run on him. Yes, you’d give up range but you got arm. Passable.

@Lake County Dem
I can’t see anyone but Vaughn (with some breaks for Abreu) playing DH full-time for the Sox this year.
If the kid gets hurt, maybe then they look to the street for a 40 y/o who can put a bat on the ball and give me 10 HRs. I think Ryan Braun is still on the street, Yoenis Céspedes is still wandering around Flushing Meadows as well.

Just hoping that the Sox can stay heathy and meet their considerable expectations for this year. It’s been a long time.

The Eloy/Cease trade is going to be this generations Brock for Broglio for Cubs fans.
But at least the Sox traded Tatis Jr. for Shields/cubs snark

This Cubs fan will be watching more of the Sox in 2021. They play a better brand of baseball.
