Pritzker to unveil phased-in reopening plan this week

Monday, Mar 15, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Jenny Whidden and Dan Petrella at the Tribune

Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s administration is set to unveil a plan later this week that will more gradually move the state from current coronavirus restrictions to a full reopening, officials said Monday. […]

But at a state Senate Health Committee meeting Monday, Illinois Department of Public Health director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said to get “from where we are now to phase five, (is) maybe not just an on-off switch but a dial, so there may be one more phase.”

Pritzker spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh confirmed that the administration is “working on a phased-in reopening.” […]

Ezike said the key bench marks that will lead to full reopening include having a majority of seniors vaccinated, as well as consideration of overall vaccinations, and seeing the number of COVID-19 related deaths continue to go down.

    Will be looking forward to the phases, since I’m planning a convention after the State Fair.

    I’m sure his plant will not be criticized at all.

    Good news

  4. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 3:24 pm:

    The most interesting aspect, for me, is the group of folks that demand a reopening and have been demanding this reopening for quite some time…

    … but will tell you, as loudly and angrily, that they won’t take the vaccine.

    It’s like if they can’t be angry, they have no use of finding solutions.

    This will be what I’ll be watching in react to this.

    It’s just more phases, all the way down

  6. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 3:35 pm:

    Thankfully the reopening will be done following medical and scientific guidelines, and not just because a governor (who is not a doctor or scientist) thinks it’s right.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 4:04 pm:

    === There is no science to what this Governor is doing. Masks do not work, the virus is seasonal, wear a mask if you do not feel safe.===

    Cite your science to this or go back to Facebook and find a meme to explain it.

    It is?

    - Reality Check -

    Quick question, humor me.

    Will you take the vaccine?

    === Virus is seasonal, check the data on IDPH.===

    No. Cite it. Show it.

    ===Science fiction is more like it.===

    Will you be getting the vaccine?

    ‘EmmaW’

    Hi Jessica

  13. - Random Chicago Person - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 4:21 pm:

    Good, glad to hear a roadmap out is being developed as it is clear that something needs to happen between Phase 4 and full reopening. Funny to see EmmaW posting here, if it’s the same EmmaW I am thinking it is, she spends a lot of time posting Covid denialist stuff on Twitter, or at least I think she does because she blocked me when I questioned it.

  14. - Cool Papa Bell - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 4:45 pm:

    I hope the dial starts turning up as soon as April 1. We usually get a 7 - 14 ramp up to changes here so I’d wager that’s the time frame.

    The Farm Progress Show is in Decatur this year. The event attracts a roughly 200k people over three days and event organizers say they are planning for the event to be held at the end of August.

  15. - RNUG - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 5:11 pm:

    == Cite your science … ==

    Most masks are not adequate in terms of filtering to stop you from breathing in the covid virus. The only ones scientifically proven to filter the virus out completely are the N95 ones … and even those aren’t totally effective if they have an exhaust valve or do not fit tightly. The N95 style used by hospitals and auto body shops do work. I use that style when I do body work in my garage. Note: even the cannister type plastic face masks often used working around toxic paints and sealers don’t work that well if they have an exhaust vent because stuff can get sucked in when the vent is open.

    What any cloth or other material mask can do, with varying degrees of effectiveness, is stop people from exhaling the virus into the air, somewhat protecting other people. Masks capture a percentage of droplets from your coughs and sneezes and keep them from spreading very far … again, exactly how effective depends on the specific type of mask.

    Bottom line: unless you are specifically using an N95, your mask is more about protecting other people than it is about protecting yourself.

    Well from day 1 gov said phase5 is full open and phase 5=effective vaccine. He has one. Now he needs to look public pinkeye and tell them what level is sufficient. You will never be 100% vaccinated.answers needed.

    === tell them what level is sufficient. You will never be 100% vaccinated.answers needed.===

    Will you be vaccinated?

    See, here’s the rub;

    Whining and complaining about “open” and “vaccine” and levels…

    … are you going to be part of getting back to normal or be one to complain, hem and haw, but not be part of the solution?

  18. - harp5339 - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 6:01 pm:

    I didn’t read that as “whining and complaining” from Masker. From the state’s own website, Phase 5 happens when: “Either a vaccine is developed to prevent additional spread of COVID-19, a treatment option is readily available that ensures health care capacity is no longer a concern, or there are no new cases over a sustained period.”

    The first criteria mentioned has happened, so for many the question of “Why aren’t we in Phase 5 then?” seems valid.

    I hope that I will still be able to work at home after the State opens back up. As I read here many months ago, the unsolvable traffic jams have been solved and the pollution levels from cars is way down

  20. - ChicagoBars - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 7:38 pm:

    Oh no, the City of Chicago’s beaten into the press release ground “dimmer switch” has spawned a State of Illinois reopening dial.

  21. - Cool Papa Bell - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 7:49 pm:

    Masks don’t work? Go argue that with the US Navy?

    Sorry.i am vaccinated. You missed the point if the question. I heard he needs 80 % vaccines..butpollinf is showing the country and the state probably won’t come close to 80 %. So if your can’t reach your goal of 80 them you never hit phase 5??? Mad is for life? 8k a day at wrigley fir life?

  23. - Sir Vax-a-lot - Tuesday, Mar 16, 21 @ 10:04 am:

    “For life”

    No, I think once we have plenty of vaccine and there are no more takers, then those without vaccinations just take their chances and everything goes back to normal. At the end of the day, we are all responsible for our own risk mitigation.

  24. - Pundent - Tuesday, Mar 16, 21 @ 11:18 am:

    =No, I think once we have plenty of vaccine and there are no more takers, then those without vaccinations just take their chances and everything goes back to normal.=

    Which leaves us with mutating variations of the virus that continue to put a strain on our health care system and require more frequent vaccines as the effectiveness of the initial vaccine wanes.

    Achieving herd immunity is exactly that.

    Hope is not a plan.

  26. - Sir Vax-a-lot - Tuesday, Mar 16, 21 @ 1:16 pm:

    * Hope is not a plan *

    Neither is the current situation of capacity limits and mask mandates, or forced vaccination.

  27. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 16, 21 @ 1:18 pm:

    ===capacity limits and mask mandates===

    That’s *literally* a plan and a way to stop the spread. LOL

    ===forced vaccination.===

    I know, rite? “Freedom”

    Yeah, making the vaccine mandatory for jobs and businesses, you’re free to find other jobs.

  28. - Sir Vax-a-lot - Tuesday, Mar 16, 21 @ 4:13 pm:

    -you’re free to find other jobs—

    Cute coming from someone who doesn’t have one and doesn’t support our business community because that somehow equates to “money over lives”.

  29. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 16, 21 @ 4:18 pm:

    ===Cute===

    Cute, that being an anti-vaccine has anything to do with me. Adorable, actually.

    ===somehow equates to “money over lives”.===

    But don’t take the vaccine… because freedom?

    Are you even trying or is all a gag?

  30. - Touré's Latte - Wednesday, Mar 17, 21 @ 10:22 am:

    I have been completely Pfizered and aged for 17 days now.

    That seems to be the litmus test before anyone can say anything.

    Anti-vaxxers should definitely NOT get vaccinated. We need herd immunity but we might also consider the need to cull the herd…
