* I try to avoid national politics whenever I can, but this guy put Pritzker in the pic, so which table would you choose? Make sure to explain your answer…
JB, sitting at the right hand of Biden, nice touch.
Seriously though, the criminal justice bill, the four bills signed yesterday, CEJA, Rebuild Illinois, marijuana legalization — sometimes we don’t see the forest for the trees. These are all so significant for the state’s long-term flourishing.
We all have our issues - most of mine were noted on yesterday’s thread re: Pritzker’s grade to date. One thing that didn’t come up there was DCFS, with which I have many concerns.
With respect to IDES, it’s not clear how much more he could have done - he couldn’t wave a magic wand and make the COBOL software transform itself, he couldn’t train 500 more IDES staff in a month …
Table #7. A rousing back and forth conversation could ensue. JB would get some interesting and conflicting points of view to consider on many subjects that reflect America’s issues–not just yes men or women. He should stay away from table 7, though. There’s some negative ju ju there if he is ever planning to run for president.
Guaranteed to enjoy the best bourbon and the finest food. Added bonus, just ask one question and I’d be able to eat my entire meal without having to say anything.
Who’s picking up the check for lunch? That’s where you’ll find me.
- Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:50 am:
“Got a story from Joe’s childhood.”
Was thinking of table 8 also. It would be all folksy, like: I’m not going to lie to you. My daddy used to say, Joey, you got to shoot straight from the shoulder. We’re going to beat COVID, as my grandfather used to say, with the grace of God and the goodwill of neighbors.
Would like to sit at table 7, with someone who has already accomplished some big things. Bernie would be impressed with the “Mercedes Marxist” billionaire venture capitalist progressive.
2 for me, good conversation and Pete could definitely challenge Manchin
- Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 11:34 am:
Definitely table 7
JB and Bernie will argue who is more progressive and Bernie can give his Billionaire spiel to an actual Billionaire who can’t explain removing toilets or his billions stashed off shore..
Tell me why is no one sitting next to Governor Cuomo and Gavin Newsom didn’t get an invite
- Springfieldish - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 11:49 am:
While there are so many good convo tables, my left elbow is demanding the open seat at table 7, for obvious reasons. “Now let’s see …Who ordered the Gordie Howe?”
- Dysfunction Junction - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 3:18 am:
Definitely Table 7. “A billionaire, a socialist, and an Ayn Rand acolyte sit down at a lunch table?” I gotta know the punchline to this one.
- dbk - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 4:06 am:

2 - I think it would be an open and intelligent conversation.
- Jaguar - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 5:46 am:
6, as I could talk with an astronaut.
- PublicServant - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 6:19 am:
Is their ay outdoor seating? No masks mean I won’t be a customer there…just sayin.
- Tallone - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 6:28 am:
9 Given how dysfunctional they are, I wonder if I could goad them into saying frank things about their supporters….
- Wensicia - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 7:25 am:
I’ll pick the empty table on the left (social distancing).
- Independent - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 7:37 am:
AOC and Cruz are Latinos. I’d pick the empty table as well but if forced to choose the astronaut tales from Table 6 would be cool.
- Majority of Me - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 7:40 am:
5 - I doubt there would be much policy shop talk, but it might be a fun conversation.
- ;) - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 7:41 am:
Table 7 would be insufferable w Pritzker and Bernie at the same table.
- Anon221 - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 7:59 am:
Empty table. All the better to observe them all… and to social distance.
- Dee Lay - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 8:02 am:
5 to hear the Texas BBQ talk.
7 for the Bernie/Paul verbal slapfight while JB leans back and watches the show
- Excitable Boy - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 8:12 am:
7, I would love making fun of Rand with those two.

Sorry. I meant table 1 in the third sentence of my comment. More coffee is needed.
- Candy Dogood - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 8:24 am:
8.
That’s the president.
You guys are kidding right?
- Joe Bidenopolous - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 8:28 am:
6 - I imagine the pastor from Ebenezer Baptist can spin a yarn, and who wouldn’t want to pick the brain of an astronaut?
- EssentialStateEmployeeFromChatham - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 8:48 am:
I wonder if the Governor will ask Bernie in Table 7, “What did you think of that Biss guy back during my primary?”
- Dance Band on the Titanic - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 8:58 am:
Definitely 7. The opportunity to sit back and crack jokes with JB while Rand Paul and Bernie go at it is too priceless to miss.
- A Guy - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:02 am:
Stand in the corner and just wait for the food fight.
- uialum - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:06 am:
Table 2 just so we might finally have infrastructure week in the US
- Token - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:13 am:
To be honest, the W, Crenshaw, Beto table would probably be a fun conversation.
- Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:23 am:
8, closer to throw things at 9.
- Blake - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:30 am:
8 for the draw of the President, but 2 may be pleasant.
- Dog Lover - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:34 am:
Being kind of shy, I’d probably pick the empty table. Of all the people in the picture, the one I’d most like to talk to is George Bush.
- clec dcn - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:34 am:
Table 9 Donald Trump would be nice to meet him no doubt. I think he might be very down to earth with an ordinary person like me.
- Bruce( no not him) - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:35 am:
I’d circulate the room trying to get each table to argue with the others. “Hey did you hear what table 5 said about table 7?”
- JS Mill - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:36 am:
=8.
That’s the president.
You guys are kidding right?=
Ditto.
=no Latinos=
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) is at table 8.
- Ok - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:50 am:
I would be interested in sitting at table 4 more than most people, and I have no interest in sitting at table 4.
- Hot Taeks - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:51 am:
Table 7 with JB and Bernie but only if we can squeeze in Rand Paul’s neighbour as well.
- walker - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 9:54 am:
#8 Fun discussions and catching up.
Got a story from Joe’s childhood. Worked in AOC’s district for a few. Who’s the stiff?
- 47th Ward - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:11 am:
Every table is the nerd table in this school.
- walker - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:13 am:
Table 8 [really because I’d like to meet C Dogood.]
- thisjustinagain - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:24 am:
I think I’ll just grab something to go; I’m trying to enjoy lunch.
- Nobody Sent - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:24 am:
Sitting with the astronaut at 6 is tempting but watching Bernie and Rand at 7 go at each other would a lot of fun. I’ve got to go with 7.
- MG85 - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:25 am:
7 - for entertainment
8 - for good conversation. Joe, AOC, and the WV Gov. all appear to be good folks to be around and would actually care to hear about how I am doing.
- DEE - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:25 am:
7-only because it is located farthest away from the two men at table 9, Sen. Beard at table 4 and both women and the man at table 1
- Ducky LaMoore - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:27 am:
2,6,8,3,5,7,4,1,9 in that order.

Table 7, would love to sit with Bernie and discuss some of his policies.
- Tommydanger - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:42 am:
7 for sure.
Guaranteed to enjoy the best bourbon and the finest food. Added bonus, just ask one question and I’d be able to eat my entire meal without having to say anything.
- 1st Ward - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:43 am:
Table 2 people seem normal and relatable but table 7 would be fascinatingly entertaining.
- Juvenal - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:45 am:
The empty table.

Is this a gathering of the City Club of Chicago? Where is Jay Doherty?
- Red Ketcher - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 10:57 am:
Table # doesn’t really matter , if I sat down the others would probably get up and leave, eh ?
- illinifan - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 11:07 am:

I would leave any room that housed Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.
- LakeCo - Wednesday, Mar 24, 21 @ 12:22 pm:
My inner high schooler is drawn to table 5 because that’s where the cute boys are…and W.
