*** UPDATED x1 *** Burke’s FBI tapes are not gonna be pretty
Wednesday, Apr 21, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller * I told subscribers some time ago that multiple sources say Ald. Ed Burke has a very bad habit of using racist language in private conversations and that, among a whole lot of other things, could be a real problem for him as his case moves forward…
Stay tuned. More here. …Adding… Click here to read the whole thing. *** UPDATE *** Press release…

- Larry Bowa Jr. - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 12:55 pm:
Don’t worry everybody, Anne’s never heard a word of this kind of thing.
- Donnie Elgin - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 12:57 pm:
Burke holds the honor of being the longest-serving alderman in Chicago history, the city must be so proud.
- NIU Grad - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:01 pm:
This is a gold mine and I can’t wait to read the entire filing later. I imagine the Alderman is hearing some loud chuckles on the floor of city council right about now…
A fun little nugget from the filing: ““the cash register has not rung yet.”
- Rahm's Parking Meter - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:06 pm:
Color me not shocked about the alderman’s private attitudes.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:14 pm:
Small Talk
The former powerful chairman but current alderman Ed Burke had a lot to say, he just didn’t realize how many would hear his words.
To wit;
Burke discusses things like cash registers and race, even throwing in anti-Semitic for good measure.
Upshot - This could make others look at this case in a more up close way
Downshot - Burke’s own image can take an even bigger hit, something some though was impossible
Backshot - What Burke has said behind so many others’ back will be an eye opener for people going forward.
Buckshot - This whole case is about squeezing people and making an easy buck
Sneedless to say, the ageless and priceless Chief Justice Anne Burke can’t be over the moon about these new revelations.
- DuPage Saint - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:19 pm:
I guess the idea of having a statue honoring the longest serving alderperson will be tabled. /S
- Friendly Bob Adams - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:19 pm:
If Burke had retired a few years ago none of this would have happened. Some of these guys they just can’t let go. Madigan seems headed for a similar fate. Was George Dunne the last guy to retire in time?
- Mad Hatter - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:23 pm:
In any place besides Illinois/Chicago, they would both have resigned their public positions a long time ago.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:25 pm:
===In any place besides Illinois/Chicago===
While under indictment, Burke won re-election
Just saying.
- Keyrock - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:25 pm:
Former Chair of the Democratic party’s committee that put judges on the bench.
Spouse of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
- Just Another Anon - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:26 pm:
I’m half sure he was quoting Royko….

Thanks for making the point about Illinois/Chicago.

So, no “innocent until proven guilty”
If you haven’t noticed, resigning in disgrace isn’t in vogue.
See, NY, VA, FL…
This is like Kass complaining about Chicago then selling his house to move *to* Chicago.
- Candy Dogood - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 1:40 pm:
===Burke won re-election===
This sets up a pretty big false choice.
Would you rather be represented by someone under federal indictment, or someone that believes certain kinds of people don’t have rights?

Elections Have Consequences

Something tells me we’re going to have a sequel to the “play all the tapes” defense.
- WestBurbs - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 2:02 pm:
When people tell me that I’m paranoid and anti-semitism doesn’t really exist anymore (surprisingly frequently from “progressives” who believe in intersectionality for everybody except Jews), I try to explain to them that anti Jew attitudes are pretty well baked in to way too many people. Thanks to Ed for proving my point.
- Three Dimensional Checkers - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 2:05 pm:
It would appear that the 5 character word “Solis” would fit perfectly under that redaction. Hmmm…
- Fav Human - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 2:07 pm:
George Dunne the last guy to retire in time?
I guess you missed the strip poker party? All the hot job applicants were invited…..
- Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 2:07 pm:
George Dunne was forced out as Cook County Board President after 31 years to inappropriate, consensual dalliances with work colleagues at age 77.
That was before Viagra was even invented
- Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 2:14 pm:
To repeat from a previous post: Perhaps the Two Eddies—Burke and Vrdolyak— will soon share Suite #29 at the Greybar Hotel. Bet Harold Washington is smiling.
- Responsa - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 2:39 pm:
I have always wondered why Anne B did not subtly and prudently remove herself from the public sphere as things got dicier and dicier for her family. Her high profile job raised many questions and apparently in the end did not serve to protect Ed.
- Snarkie from Schaumburg - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 3:26 pm:
The Feds are the best at public squeezing something since Norman Walker invented the Norwalk.
- don the legend - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 3:31 pm:
to the update:
==“When he thought no one was listening Ed Burke revealed his true self. ==
I’m thinking he probably didn’t care either way whether anyone was listening.

And became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court’s spouse.
Just saying.
- Montrose - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 4:39 pm:
I had the pleasure of being in one private meeting with Burke. This tracks.
- Unionman - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 4:41 pm:
@lurker : “And became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court’s spouse.
Just saying.”
Article VI Section 3 of the Illinois Constitution states: “Supreme Court Judges shall select a Chief Justice from their number to serve for a term of three years.”
They pick their chief, it has nothing to do with politics, there are only 7 of them. They traditionally have a rotation.
- Keyrock - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 5:58 pm:
And why, Unionman, do you think Anne Burke became a Supreme Court Justice? Could it perhaps have more to do with her husband being chair of the Cook County Democratic judicial selection committee than any other factor?
- Loop Lady - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 7:00 pm:
God forbid if anyone expresses distaste for the status quo for the last hundred years Rich..
- Anonymous - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 7:36 pm:

Same with Blago. Just saying
- Huh? - Wednesday, Apr 21, 21 @ 9:57 pm:
“I’m sure he cleaned it up for the Mrs.”
It is naive to think that Burke toned it down for Judge Burke in the privacy of their home.
