I would hate to be the play-by-play announcer if he pitched a complete game.

  3. - Bronx Bomber - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 6:49 am:

I’m Speaker or the House, not the Chairman of the Board

  4. - Keyrock - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 7:03 am:

Cubs game? The new Speaker sure is different.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 7:13 am:

Names should never… ever… have names in the back of home jerseys

  6. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 7:17 am:

“Meh. Rizzo has thrown innings… send him to the bullpen”

  7. - PublicServant - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 7:41 am:

Family was at the Blackhawks game at the UC. Great to get out, and see the hawks win.

  8. - PublicServant - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 7:44 am:

Cubs sign Welch to shore up bullpen.

  9. - Bruce( no not him) - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 7:57 am:

So Welch isn’t enough? Gotta include his title? S/

  10. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 8:05 am:

    * baseball mitt not included

  11. - Frank talks - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 8:08 am:

Hey JB let’s see what you do with this heater of a map.

  12. - Nearly Normal - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 8:13 am:

Looks like the Cubs are attempting to shore up their pitching. The Professor had a bad day so bring in the Speaker? Need to go with peformance over promise.

  13. - Skeptic - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 8:18 am:

That’s a bit too inside baseball for me.

  14. - Frank talks - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 8:33 am:

Now can you throw in an Edge credit for us as well?

  15. - Skeptic - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:05 am:

“Um, when I said ‘pitch your idea’, that’s not what I meant.”

  16. - NorthsideNoMore - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:15 am:

He has decent extension lets see what the follow through looks like. No watches on the throwing hand ?

  17. - A Guy - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:18 am:

First time Umpires ever checked the ball on an honorary first pitch.
Don’t remember MJM ever doing this first pitch thing. Maybe they thought the ball looked too much like an apple.

  18. - Frank talks - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:18 am:

If Maxwell hits my slider I let him into the map room and he won’t even have to go through the long tunnel

  19. - Frumpy White Guy - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:23 am:

The new Speaker is a polar opposite to the previous one. Social media and PR magnet and compared to a no cell phone, no computer, no email and no public outreach guy.

  20. - ddp76 - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:29 am:

    Juuuuust a little bit outside.

  21. - fs - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:34 am:

At first, it appeared that the Speaker went with a fastball straight down the middle. However, it turned out to be a mean slider that curved way left.

  22. - Skeptic - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:40 am:

“I still have to prove how woke I am by wearing a mask.” Trolls gonna troll I guess. That’s why we can’t have nice things.

  23. - City Zen - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:42 am:

I see your six feet and raise you 54 feet and 6 inches.

  24. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:42 am:

=== yet I still have to prove how woke I am===

Prolly couldn’t explain what “woke” means if you let them look it up on OAN… pathetic is gonna be pathetic.

    “Caption?”

“You try to follow through with a pitch with all those letters on your back.”

  25. - Anon - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:49 am:

Wouldn’t “WELCH” have been sufficient on the back of the jersey instead of “SPEAKERWELCH”?

  26. - zatoichi - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 9:59 am:

    Internal conversations:
‘Brushing back Durkin with some heat’
    or
    ‘Don’t Fauci it’

  27. - Earnest - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 10:03 am:

    >This looks like it was suppose to be a fastball inside.

Enough about the remap. Tell us about the pitch.

  28. - Responsa - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 10:09 am:

Serious question: Is there a reason when he is described in written media it is almost always Emanuel “Chris” Welsh? Along with his other Speaker title I should think either Emanuel or Chris would be sufficient to not have him confused with any other Welsh. You know who else in Chicago had their street nicknames in media quotes? Tony “Big Tuna” Accardo and George Clarence “Bugs” Moran.

  29. - 47th Ward - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 10:12 am:

A ball? I have 73 votes that says it was a strike. Call the roll.

  30. - Responsa - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 10:13 am:

Yeah, I know –Welch. Not Welsh. :)

  31. - Oswego Willy - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 10:13 am:

=== Chicago had their street nicknames in media quotes? Tony “Big Tuna” Accardo and George Clarence “Bugs” Moran.===

So a nickname makes one a criminal?

In some families, as an example, there may be one or more “John” names, so heaven forbid we have nicknames or use second names and acknowledge a birth name?

This seems like a “first world problem”…

  32. - AlfondoGonz - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 10:19 am:

Politics is like church. Many attend, few understand.

A tip of the cap to Leo Durocher.

  33. - Mama - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 11:14 am:

In my family, everyone has a nickname. In fact, they don’t even know what their birth name is because no one calls them by their birth name.

  34. - Denny's Grand Slam - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 12:15 pm:

Speaker Welch should have pitched the first few innings instead of Kyle Hendricks!

  35. - Huh? - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 5:26 pm:

Aahh, batta, batta, batta, swing and a miss.

  36. - Coco - Monday, May 10, 21 @ 7:07 pm:

“Well folks, we thought he would throw a fastball, but it looks like it’s going to be a curve out of the zone.”
