Question of the day

Tuesday, Jun 8, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I posted a Leftover Salmon video here late Friday afternoon. On Sunday, I realized that one of the group’s founding members Vince Herman was playing in a band later that day at a golf course just north of Springfield. The weather was great, the beer was cold and I saw a lot of friends and made some new ones…

* The Question: Are you hoping to experience any live music events this summer? Tell us about them.

  1. - Proud Papa Bear - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 2:57 pm:

My wife and I are traveling to New England in July. I’d love to be able to open a local paper, see what’s playing, and just go.

  2. - Joe Bidenopolous - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:00 pm:

Have tickets for the following, though some are fall:

Jason Isbell & 400 Unit in Schaumburg
    Trampled by Turtles in Milwaukee
    Old 97s at Space
    Avett Brothers in Madison
Langhorne Slim at Thalia (Tix on sale Friday)

  3. - Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:05 pm:

Headed to Maine in mid July. I’m told one of the areas we are staying in has life jazz five nights a week in a local bandstand. Can’t wait.

  4. - JoanP - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:08 pm:

Indeed, I am! I’ve already been to a Chicago Symphony concert, and am going to another next Sunday. I’m also looking forward to the Grant Park Music Festival.

  5. - JoanP - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:08 pm:

    P.S.

How about “Leftover Salmon” as a new name for Asian carp?

  6. - Panther Pride - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:08 pm:

Sammy Hagar at the State Fair. Very excited.

  7. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:16 pm:

This fall I have tickets for

    Rodrigo y Gabriela
    Paul Thorn
    Chris Hillman

I hope to add some this summer

  9. - Kestrel - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:28 pm:

Henhouse Prowlers in Spfld at the old Y site in downtown end of June. Free, too!!

  10. - fun times - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:32 pm:

    Joe Bonamassa in STL

    Jeremiah Johnson in Edwardsville

  11. - SWIL_Voter - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:33 pm:

Did a shot with Vince at Summer Camp in, I think, 2007 minutes before a late night acoustic jam session he did with the band Cornmeal. They did “This Must be the Place” by Talking Heads and it remains one of my favorite concert memories. No real plans to go to a concert soon, but am ready.

  12. - TinyDancer(FKASue) - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:33 pm:

Grant Park Music Festival and Blues Fest…..hopefully.

  13. - Benjamin - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:33 pm:

Wilco and Sleater-Kinney at Grant Park, Chicago in August. I’m a big Wilco fan, though I confess I don’t know much about Sleater-Kinney (other than Carrie Brownstein’s comedy work on “Portlandia”).

  14. - @misterjayem - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:37 pm:

“Are you hoping to experience any live music events this summer?”

♫ Flat Five at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn (June 11)
♫ Flat Five at Post 42 in Evanston (June 12)
♫ Jon Langford at Montrose Saloon (June 13)
♫ Jon Langford at Public Craft Brewery in Kenosha (June 19)
♫ Trash Mountain Trio at Blue Island Beer Co (June 20)
♫ Waco Brothers at Art’s Happening Downtown in Rockford (June 26)
♫ Waco Brothers at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn (July 3)
♫ Lawrence Peters Outfit at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn (July 4)

Admittedly a slow start, but the pace should pick up after my beloved Hideout opens the patio on July 6.

  15. - Roy G Bluth - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:38 pm:

I have tix for Confederate Railroad and Lady Antebellum. I’ll see Symphony X too if they tour the midwest.

  16. - Cheryl44 - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:42 pm:

Does seeing “In the Heights” count? I’m seeing it at the Music Box, if that helps.

  17. - A Jack - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:45 pm:

    Four day tickets to Lollapalooza.

  18. - Oxfordian - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:46 pm:

Tickets for both nights of the Dead at Wrigley are the only shows I’ve booked so far. Hopefully getting to Riot fest and there’s a couple shows at Ravinia I’ve been eyeing.

  19. - Annie - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:47 pm:

Dead & Co at Wrigley; Wilco at Millennium Park; Patti Smith on a golf course in Evanston.

  20. - Don't Worry, Be Happy - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:51 pm:

Dark Star Orchestra this weekend in the Soldier Field parking lot. Seven Dead shows in Aug and Sep. Maybe a Phish show or two.

  21. - Six Degrees of Separation - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 3:54 pm:

We had tix at Busch Stadium for the 2020 Def Leppard/Motley Crue/Joan Jett show, then re-scheduled for 2021, and for some reason the whole tour was then delayed to 2022 not too long ago. I’ve already seen a few local acts outdoors, and will see plenty more by the time the weather chills.

  22. - Responsa - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:00 pm:

One of the pleasures of where we chose to live is the proximity to Ravinia. Tix are available for sale tomorrow and a group of six of us have our eyes on lawn tickets for seven (mostly CSO) concerts. The park is open at reduced capacity this summer so we’re keeping fingers crossed that we can reserve our preferred choices.

  23. - Nearly Normal - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:16 pm:

Illinois State is again hosting their Concerts on the Quad starting Monday, June 28 and every Monday evening in July at 7 pm in front of Cook Hall. Performing for June 28 is the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band.

  24. - 47th and Lake Park - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:27 pm:

Already played three gigs in Chicago in the past 4 weeks. People are excited, but some nervousness. But if the covid numbers don’t rise again, that will change fast.

  25. - lake county democrat - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:31 pm:

Hope to get to a day at Summerfest.

  26. - Cheryl44 - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:31 pm:

    The Hideout is reopening!

  27. - Crash - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:31 pm:

John Hiatt is playing at Ravinia and my wife and I are looking at our schedules to see if we can make it.

  28. - Ginhouse Tommy - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:36 pm:

Got a few friends who are Trump supporters and they just won’t get vaxed. They are planning to travel and one is going out of the country. Go figure. Gonna be nice to go out and catch some live music again. Missed it.

  29. - From DaZoo - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:38 pm:

Ravinia is an annual favorite. Not sure who we’re seeing, yet, but love the atmosphere and experience.

  30. - Slugger O'Toole - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:41 pm:

Tedeschi Trucks Band at Red Rocks at the end of July.

  31. - Paddyrollingstone - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:46 pm:

Taking the whole crew - 6 kids and some significant others - to see the Dead at Wrigley.

    We will survive.

  32. - Jay - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 4:54 pm:

My band Silverweed at the Rose Bowl in Urbana last Sunday!

  33. - Etown - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 5:40 pm:

Ben Harper and Innocent Criminals first weekend August

Drive by Truckers Labor day weekend
    Both in E town

Debating Foo Fighters at Lolla. Saw them at Lolla in 2011 and was pretty damn good even with a Thunderstorm

  34. - Honeybear - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 6:12 pm:

Although it didn’t have its usual live music, my girlfriend and I went to Circus Flora. They had a one weekend show. The first one post Covid.
    It
    was
    wondrous
I enjoyed it so so much.
I can’t wait for their big show in the fall.
    Live music and amazing feats

  35. - Colin Robinson - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 6:40 pm:

As many as possible. Off to a good start. So many free outdoor shows at Fitzgerald’s and Montrose Saloon. Patti Smith at a golf course in Evanston, Pitchfork, Riot Fest.

  36. - IT Guy - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 7:29 pm:

First, I’m impressed at the concerts listed by everyone. I may look into some of them. For me it’ll be the Fox Valley Folk Festival in Geneva Labor Day weekend.

  37. - Flat Bed Ford - Tuesday, Jun 8, 21 @ 10:08 pm:

Hubby has big weekend plans for us. Friday it’s Whitey Morgan and Saturday it’s Billy Strings. Shaping up to be a great weekend.
