An antivax, anti-Chicago event that even Darren Bailey skipped

Friday, Jul 9, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Mark Maxwell

Marjorie Taylor Greene is mad at China for not containing Covid-19.

“I don’t want anybody in this country to depend on our enemy, China, who sent a Chinese virus that was made in a lab, that is a bio weapon, not only to our country, but all over the world,” Greene, a freshman member of Congress from Georgia, said. “And people died.”

However, speaking at a political fundraising event on Thursday night [for US Rep. Mary Miller], Greene encouraged hundreds of older voters to resist the life-saving vaccines that have proven to be society’s best weapon at fighting Coronavirus infection, hospitalization, and death.

It would not be her last contradiction of the evening.

On Tuesday, speaking about the country’s ongoing efforts to recover from the pandemic, President Biden said, “Now we need to go to community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, and oft times door to door – literally knocking on doors – to get help to the remaining people protected from the virus.”

Before Biden made those remarks, local public health departments and community groups had already begun deploying similar public awareness campaigns to combat misinformation about the vaccines.

Still, Greene seized on Biden’s comment to scare people in the audience that federal agents, not local public health officials or volunteers, might arrive at their door if they didn’t take the vaccine. She said her ‘We Will Not Comply Act,’ which she filed in April, would offer wary citizens protection against federal overreach.

“It gives you permission to tell Biden’s little posse that’s gonna show up at your door, you know, that intimidate you — they probably they probably work for Antifa by night, and then they come and intimidate you to take the vaccine by day — Well, you get to tell them to get the hell off of your lawn,” she said to a room of about 500 people.

Of course, you don’t need permission from Congress to tell someone to get off of your private property. But Greene said her legislation would also allow people who refuse the vaccine to sue their employers for discrimination if the company makes vaccination mandatory.

When even Darren Bailey skips out… Whew.

Dan’s story is here.

“When even Darren Bailey skips out… Whew”

    Lol, thought the same thing.

“Greene encouraged hundreds of older voters to resist the life-saving vaccines”

Not just evil but straight-up dumb, encouraging your political base to get sick or die. Where are you, ILGOP leadership, to strongly oppose and condemn this dangerous nonsense?

Even Bailey isn’t toxic enough for Greene and Miller. He probably didn’t even get invited. :)

I went and read Dan’s story, I don’t even know what to say. WBEZ is doing some real journalistic work and filling some of the void these days.

Greene is a complete scumbag. Not a fan of Newman’s politics but going after her and her kid is so low I cannot use the words I want to use or I could get banned from Capfax. She is just a complete lowlife.

The Miller’s are both grifters and closet socialists as well (due to their acceptance of federal subsidies) just like Bailey.

I too laughed at Rich’s comment but was totally shocked he wasn’t there. I guess they didn’t want him?

“they probably they probably work for Antifa by night”

This is kind of BS that irritates me to no end. There’s no evidence of this, and the only purpose is to plant seeds of doubt that grow to sequoias overnight. Or own the libs. Neither is constructive to any kind of rational discussion.

  5. - Moe Berg - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 9:35 am:

Some may comfort themselves thinking that Reps. Miller and Greene are #NotAllRepublicans.

But, other than Reps. Cheney and Kinzinger, it is.

At the state and national level GOP leaders have nothing to say in condemnation.

It really is the GQP now. Some are zealous apostles and, with rare exception, the rest are complicit.

If you think it’s a bioweapon that kills people, and that Trump spent billions to develop protections from that bioweapon, then why wouldn’t you get the shot and be protected?

  7. - Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 9:47 am:

Man… if this was satire, it would be hilarious. But they are actual elected representatives… bleeping scary.

  8. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 9:50 am:

It should be noted that the ILGOP as a party, Leaders Durkin and McConchie, Congressmen Bost, LaHood, Davis… even as I write this… Kinzinger…

Not ONE… has conddmed the seething racist, homophobic, transphobic language… and it was stated again Trump won Georgia which is categorically false.

I’ll wait to hear who does right… and condemns this event, the speakers, it’s tone, and what it stood for… I will NOT hold my breath.

When a political cult tells you who they are… or refuses to condemn racist, insurrectionist, conspiracy theory talk… believe the silence.

  9. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 9:53 am:

===if this was satire, it would be hilarious.===

It’s truly “O Brother Where Art Thou”… but for real.

Real anger. Real hatred. Real disinformation.

It should scare, it scares and angers me.

They are doing it in the open now. No hoods, no costumes, no secret society. It’s a cult that took over a brand.

  10. - Stark - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 10:03 am:

Yeah, this is the kind of thing that will surely help Republicans get their recent electoral misfortunes in this state back on track. A sickening display of humanity - or lack thereof.

(Yes, I know it’s not really an organization)

There was much to cover from yesterday’s event, but what really steamed me was Rep. Greene attacking Rep. Newman’s child.

=== There was much to cover from yesterday’s event, but what really steamed me was Rep. Greene attacking Rep. Newman’s child.===

Concur. How very Christian of them. *Even* a minister… felt the need to have racism and transphobia be part of his remarks… “because religion”

The remarks about Newman and her daughter… vile and disgusting…

  14. - Rudy’s teeth - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 11:03 am:

This visual: Marjorie Taylor Greene wearing a beanie with a propeller on top.

Is she a recent graduate of the Darren Bailey School of Science and Disease Prevention Institute?

  15. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 12:14 pm:

    It’s past noon.

I’ve yet to see any condemnation of Marjorie Taylor Greene, the racist, homophobic and transphobic speakers, no pushing back on the lie that Trump carried Georgia…

    … not ONE

If I missed them, I’d love to be corrected. It’d be great to see. So far? ZERO.

    I’m not surprised about Chairman Tracy. Nope. Let’s revisit how *he* sees a party, and welcoming racists, insurrectionists, conspiracy theorists… and bigots;

Quoting… from the release of his election, Tracy says…

“So, whatever your political leanings, wherever you live - if you want to fight corruption, restore fiscal sanity, grow our economy, and stand for law and order - you’re on our team. It’s time to suit up, work together, and bring home some wins for the people of Illinois.”

Make no mistake… hate is welcome in Tracy’s eyes…

I mean, as long as… “…you want to fight corruption, restore fiscal sanity, grow our economy, and stand for law and order - you’re on our team. It’s time to suit up, work together, and bring home some wins for the people of Illinois.”

This is telling exactly who you are.

I’ll keep looking for thoughts from the party leaders. I hope I missed some condemning last night.

  16. - Shibboleth - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 12:38 pm:

I’m not sure there’s another person in American politics I despise more than Rep. Greene. I am ashamed of Rep. Miller for bringing her to Illinois and platforming such despicable views.

  17. - Roadrager - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 12:42 pm:

==Not just evil but straight-up dumb, encouraging your political base to get sick or die. Where are you, ILGOP leadership, to strongly oppose and condemn this dangerous nonsense?==

This is being pushed hard nightly on Fox News’ Three Hours’ Hate, and the calculus here is simple, and unfortunately, likely effective.

Republicans have decided that failure to stop COVID cost Trump re-election. So, since they can’t take credit for current vaccination efforts on the national level, they’ll just actively sabotage them, and run against Joe Biden on his failure to stop COVID. And if another couple million people die because of it, well, that’s just sports. Sometimes you gotta give up a couple points on the scoreboard to win the big game at the end. And besides, as Tucker Carlson helpfully pointed out earlier this week, a lot of people who died were pretty old, so who cares.

  18. - zatoichi - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 12:47 pm:

The Effingham Performance Center holds 1,523 seats. At 400 in attendance that’s slightly over 25%. Not exactly a bust out event for a supposedly conservative presentation in a very Republican county.

  19. - levivotedforjudy - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 12:48 pm:

I’ve never considered myself a chicken, but MTG truly scares me (and she has followers).

  20. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 12:51 pm:

=== Not exactly a bust out event for a supposedly conservative presentation in a very Republican county===

    While very true…

…the voices of condemnation are quite silent too, saying loudly that 400, 4,000, it appears no Republicans want to speak ill of the event?

  21. - Anonymous - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 12:54 pm:

OW: Not gonna happen. Why would they condemn remarks that they know their supporters/voters agree with? Then they’re saddled with the scarlet RINO label.

  22. - Steve Rogers - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 12:54 pm:

    Argh. 12:54 was me.

  23. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 1:01 pm:

    - Steve Rogers -

    You crystallize the point.

It’s not that Mary Miller or Marjorie Taylor Greene are outcasts. Mary Miller and Marjorie Taylor Greene are the base of a cult that requires complete deference… or the cult will take you down.

It scares Rodney Davis so much he’s looking for a place to land, conceding beating Mary Miller, a freshman who quoted the leader of National Socialism in World War II… and can’t see that as a win in a primary.

    Silence is winning the day.

  24. - lake county democrat - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 1:08 pm:

Weird opening line to that story - who *isn’t* angry at China for persecuting and censoring COVID whistleblowers and deceiving WHO, who issued deadly early statement that COVID didn’t transmit easily between humans.

  25. - lake county democrat - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 1:10 pm:

(Lest anyone think I have anything but antipathy for MTG or understand her wild contradictions, I just flinch at the first line prompting the reaction in my head “well, yeah” - and also think the Democrats don’t take a hard enough line on China in general)

  26. - Dotnonymous - Friday, Jul 9, 21 @ 1:12 pm:

Marjorie — Covid Danger Field — Greene.

    “I get no respect.”

    Warped perspective.
