I was starting to think we were never going to see infrastructure week. Hallelujah.

  2. - Friendly Bob Adams - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 9:45 am:

Last night the country got to experience a Liam Hendricks “save”, which featured a single and a double and one strikeout. He drives me nuts watching Sox games.

Downstate friends, you’re in for a treat on Saturday. Legendary Chicago jam band Mr. Blotto is performing at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mt. Vernon. Doors open at 6:00pm.

You should go. All of you.

I enjoyed the All-Star Game, Chicago and St. Louis players well represented.

    What was tough?

Do I think the Cubs need to trade… Bryant, Contreras, “others”… be sellers not buyers… yep.

Do I need Joe Buck yapping about it with a snarky glee? Nope.

The Cubs would be wise to trade Bryant, Contreras, see what Baez can bring, but Joe Buck during the game pressing Bryant was bad form.

The game was as much fun as I remember they use to be.

He yaps about everything. And it was compounded last night. Buck always inserts himself into games and he went even further last night by interviewing players on the field during the game, even telling them to do certain things. This really needs to stop. Buck gotta go.

  6. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:00 am:

Mr. Blotto is still together? Wow.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:01 am:

=== Buck always inserts himself into games and he went even further last night===

It’s like he can’t help himself, and it doesn’t enhance the game or the broadcasting.

    Buck gotta go… indeed.

  8. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:05 am:

Liam dropping the f-bomb and other cursing on TV last night, being on a hot mic. The dude feels it.

Don’t forget that Joe is Jack’s son and thus he grew up a Cardinal fan and started out in the footsteps of his father as a Cardinal broadcaster. So not surprised to be giddy about the prospect of a Cubs fire sale.

Then again, I think Joe Buck since he’s been at Fox is more of a fan of the Yankees and Red Sox and in the NFL, the entire NFC East.

  10. - EssentialStateEmployeeFromChatham - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:12 am:

Also, is it just me or did anyone else think that the All-Star uniforms last night were horrible?

  11. - EssentialStateEmployeeFromChatham - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:16 am:

Speaking of Fox Sports, Joe Buck, and the NFL: the Peoria Journal Star is reporting that Steeler great and Fox NFL Sunday studio host Terry Bradshaw made a surprise visit to the UFS wholesale liquor store Monday morning on the south side of Peoria.

As a Bill Veeck devotee I thought the pants were a little long and the collars needed work.

  13. - Cheryl44 - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:17 am:

    Mr. Blotto!!

Also, Joe Buck is the only Jeopardy! guest host I plan to skip. He was horrible calling the WS the Sox won. And his father was an incredibly gracious man.

  14. - fs - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:18 am:

They’ve been doing these on the field interviews and live mics with players for a few years now, and not just in the exhibition games. It’s a terrible idea, imo, and is going to end up biting a team at some point with a player not being as focused as they should be on the game itself.

And, yeah, the uniforms were terrible. They should wear their normal uniforms like they did for years.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:23 am:

I didn’t mind the uniforms, I’ve seen worse, like the Giants “neighborhood” unis that are atrocious.

    The lids were pretty solid.

  16. - Lt Guv - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:32 am:

I liked the AL blues, NL whites, met. Kills me as an NL fan

  17. - flea - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:45 am:

I observed a bald eagle fishing off the pond 2 days in a row. What a majestic bird. I feel lucky.

  18. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 10:53 am:

    flea-

I’ve had them perch on my levee a time or two.

Much like a horned owl, can’t really appreciate their size until you see them fairly close, and in the wild.

  19. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 14, 21 @ 11:13 am:

guess last nights All Star unit were designed to make the Cubs city edition look decent by comparison. and after watching Bryant and Kimbrel last night, please do not trade for them, Hahn.

    For what it’s worth…

    CNBC: Illinois #1 for infrastructure.

“More than a century after the poet Carl Sandburg called Chicago a “Player with Railroads and the Nation’s Freight Handler,” Illinois remains a leader in the value of goods shipped. But that is not the only area where the Land of Lincoln’s infrastructure shines. The power grid is reliable, broadband connectivity is good, air travel is abundant, and there is plenty of commercial space available.”

Interesting info on Cub’s West Side Grounds.
So, I knew they played on a field near Little Italy, but I didn’t know about the field at Michigan and Randolph:
