OK, this is a new one on me

Wednesday, Jul 21, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Ron Ellis, a Republican candidate for the Illinois House, held a “press conference” last month to kick off his campaign in southern Illinois’ 117th District. His Facebook video appears to be hilariously altered to include sounds of crowd murmurs, camera shutters and applause. And, yes, it’s kind of a slow state news day today

His sound editor is obviously far better than his advance person.

    Decade = 10, not 12. 2010 to 2020 is 10 not 12.
Didn’t this guy run against Forby at some point?

  2. - The Fellow Edgar - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:03 am:

Poor Ron Ellis. Should have stuck with the posh $60,000 per year do nothing Williamson County Commissioner post.

  3. - Poor Ron - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:06 am:

It should be noted that the guy is primarying Rep. Patrick Windhorst because…well..no one knows why really. Windhorst is one of the most conservative and brightest members of the House caucus. What a waste of time.

  4. - Back to the Future - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:12 am:

Come on guys and gals, it wasn’t that bad.

  5. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:14 am:

    ===it wasn’t that bad===

    Please.

  6. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:15 am:

At some point, did anyone say…

“If we’re piping in sound and noise, what does that say about what support we actually have?”

It’s bad… that it went beyond dorm thinking and into practice.

  7. - SouthSide Markie - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:15 am:

It could have been worse. He could have been wearing a seersucker suit.

  8. - Ducky LaMoore - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:17 am:

“Windhorst is one of the most conservative and brightest members of the House caucus.”

Yes, but he doesn’t say and tweet a bunch of goofy, nutty tripe. And he isn’t personally insulting to everyone that doesn’t agree with him. I don’t know how someone so decent can survive a Republican primary in this day and age.

  9. - ;) - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:18 am:

I mean, I have seen worse things. Moreover, his delivery was worse than the sound editing, at least if we are being totally honest here.

  10. - Cool Papa Bell - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:21 am:

    Williamson County

    2010 - 66,432
    2019 - 66,597 *can’t fine 2020 numbers

165 people in 9 years. Booming!

  11. - Back to the Future - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:23 am:

I can see where Cap Faxers might has a few issues with the fellows delivery, but can we al least agree that this fellow has the loudest clapping family in Williamson County.

  12. - Just Me 2 - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:27 am:

I love it. This is awesome.

Sad thing is most people who rely on social media to get their news won’t know the difference.

  13. - twowaystreet - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:31 am:

I was really expecting for them to edit in some Maxwell questions from other interviews at the end to make it seem like the press covered it.

“Great questions Mark and really glad you’re here in-person covering my campaign.”

  14. - JoanP - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:38 am:

The County made their pension payments because the IMRF can go after them if they don’t.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:41 am:

===He could have been wearing a seersucker suit.===

Being unapologetic pro-seersucker, the suit couldn’t have saved him, the enhancement seersucker brings would’ve been overshadowed.

Prolly shoulda done it in a garage, near a tracker, and put out in a ticker-tocker thingy with googlie eyes or something.

  16. - Boone's is Back - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:45 am:

This is awesome lol. The camera shutters really got me.

  17. - Skeptic - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:49 am:

“If we’re piping in sound and noise, what does that say about what support we actually have?” Well, in his defense, if the NHL can do it…

  18. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:51 am:

=== if the NHL can do it…===

Premier League did it too, the list goes on.

They all readily admitted it was phony.

This is comical and phony. I guess… entertaining?

  19. - Henry Francis - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 11:54 am:

Ron Ellis’ press conference had the largest audience to ever witness a press conference in history. Period.

  20. - Steve Rogers - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 12:09 pm:

Regarding his coda: I think Springfield does know that southern Illinois is here and it is viable:

  21. - Back to the Future - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 12:17 pm:

Hard to view a few minutes on social media and make a judgment on a candidate, but I did notice his family seemed smiling and supportive so I would guess, on the most important level, the fellow is already a winner.

  22. - SouthSide Markie - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 12:30 pm:

I’m really disappointed in you, OW. I figured that you, of all people, would comment on the “inside baseball” reference to the seersucker and its historical attachment to the 117th District.

  23. - Your Mom - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 12:30 pm:

He should of just stayed in his basement I hear that’s a winning strategy.

  24. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 12:31 pm:

Lots of playing fast and loose with information. Pop growth of 165 is growth, but statistically insignificant.

IMRF payments are required not optional as someone else pointed out.

Adding loopholes is how you do it? Incentivising business is socialism by the way.

More of the standard talking points noise.

  25. - Flying Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 12:31 pm:

    The Real Captain-

He ran against Woolard in 2000…and lost by 18.5 points.

  26. - fs - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 1:13 pm:

== I did notice his family seemed smiling and supportive ==

    Lol, ok.

I mean, if that’s the measuring stick, then every politician must be a winner.

  27. - Bigtwich - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 1:19 pm:

It was nice of the people of Harrisburg (Saline County) to work so hard for growth in Williamson County.

  28. - The Real Captain - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 1:23 pm:

    @ Flying Elvis’-Utah Chapter
    That’s where I met him.

  29. - Jocko - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 1:30 pm:

Thanks for the post (banned punctuation). Now I have the urge to re-watch Ed Wood with Johnny Depp.

  30. - charles in charge - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 1:47 pm:

Love the camera shutter clicks, but needs more flashbulb pops.

  31. - Reading - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 3:03 pm:

Ron’s only running because his wittle feewings are still hurt that the GOP picked Severin over him to take on Bradley. Severin’s in his 3rd term…Ron’s releasing poorly edited videos.

  32. - Frumpy White Guy - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 3:22 pm:

That’s what we need in Springfield some more Frumpy White Guys.

  33. - CEA - Wednesday, Jul 21, 21 @ 5:26 pm:

    @ Bigtwich:

“It was nice of the people of Harrisburg (Saline County) to work so hard for growth in Williamson County.”

Joining forces to stick it to those so-and-sos over in Carbondale. ;-)

  34. - blue line - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 7:54 am:

    that was pure awful.

  35. - TheAardvark - Thursday, Jul 22, 21 @ 12:54 pm:

Mr. Ellis has also stated that the COVID vaccines are “the mark of the beast”. Between that and his nonsense talking points, he fits in pretty well down in these parts, for the most part.
