  1. - Todd & Margo - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:22 am:

    It’s cold

  2. - Huh? - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:24 am:

    “It’s cold”

It happens this time a year.

  3. - Kendall County Whig - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:28 am:

I hope Chicago Public Schools teachers enjoy their four day weekend next week while parents scramble to find day care on eight days notice.

  4. - Senator Clay Davis - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:29 am:

Adam Kinzinger should stop deluding himself and others that the GOP will elect a principled candidate in the primary for either the Senate or president. He’s the Judas that betrayed the Orange Messiah and that is unforgivable. He should go make millions as a CNN talking head, run a PAC supporting principled candidates, and possibly run again someday when/if a rational GOP returns

  5. - Donnie Elgin - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:29 am:

Good times ahead - McRib is back and High School Basketball tips off in a few weeks!

  6. - Arsenal - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:33 am:

==Adam Kinzinger should stop deluding himself and others that the GOP will elect a principled candidate in the primary for either the Senate or president.==

I think there *could* be a shot at Senate, just because it seems like nobody else wants it? But it also seems like some complete rando could put their name on the ballot and raise $10M just off of “I’m running against Kinzinger”.

  7. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:36 am:

When your best hope to return to a “moderate” GOP is a congressman ostracized by that very party, you know you have a lost cause.

  8. - Amalia - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:36 am:

warm enough for golf next week.

  9. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:37 am:

    - Senator Clay Davis -

Good points. My thought to Kinzinger is he took himself out of the discussion by his announcement, but he can easily keep his name in this new narrative by claiming he’s exploring things… until the time petitions are filed for Governor or Senate… then he can change the discussion again as 2022 ramps up after primaries and November.

If one looks at the calendar and his own timelines, by the time the next Congress is seated, he will have seemed more relevant on the national stage for a longer time than if he ran, lost, and needed to regroup again.

The one thing Kinzinger can’t do is lose an election. There’s no good in that martyrdom. None. No reward or badge of honor. There is a sense of fighting in the arena while figuratively being in a penalty box type existence.

When he makes his millions, new child, family, I’d like to think Kinzinger will look at these next 15 or so months as theatre of the absurd, not only his own absurd but the absurd he (Kinzinger) must navigate.

I’m thinking that maybe JB needs to get answers from the Chairman of the Tollway on why he thinks that the State Police in District 5 should report to him. His new Org chart is a much read if you have some free time.

  11. - learnin - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 9:59 am:

Kendall County Whig, the teachers didn’t plan that day. In fact, the union has criticized the administration for not properly planning out an effort to help students get vaccinated. I know it’s more fun for carbon units like you to bash teachers than get the facts.

  12. - Steve Polite - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 10:06 am:

“while parents scramble to find day care on eight days notice.”

Veterans’ Day is a federal holiday and occurs on November 11th every year. I can’t speak to CPS, but schools usually publish their schedule at the beginning of every school year.

Conclusion, parents have had much longer than eight days to plan for Veterans’ day, and unless the day after was a last minute change, they’ve probably had since the beginning of the school year to plan for that day off also.

    To the post:
Daylight Saving Time ought to be eliminated, and we should stay on standard time.

  13. - Cheryl44 - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 10:15 am:

The parents have 8 days to figure it out, Mr. Whig. That’s a longer time to work on it than you get for a lot of parental decisions.

  14. - Joe Bidenopolous - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 10:32 am:

=parents have had much longer than eight days to plan for Veterans’ day, and unless the day after was a last minute change=

The day after was a last minute change that was announced yesterday, so maybe pull back on your condescension, Steve not-so-Polite

As for the 12th, which is now and was not previously a day off of school, the word is that a lot of teachers took that day off to give themselves a four-day weekend and CPS couldn’t backfill with enough subs so now it’s a “Vaccine Awareness Day”

  15. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 10:37 am:

Interestingly, what CPS is doing for next Friday is completely opposite of Springfield District 186’s approach. While Sangamon County health department is offering to hold clinics at schools, D186 hasn’t scheduled any at this time, only trying to make kids’ vaxes “convenient for children and parents as possible.”

How about making it convenient by holding clinics during school, what a novel concept.

  16. - Skeptic - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 10:39 am:

“There’s no good in that martyrdom. None.” Well, he could pull from the Republican play book and claim the election was stolen. That might get him some mileage.

  17. - Steve Polite - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 10:42 am:

    Joe,

With all due respect, I allowed for the possibility of a last minute change for Friday because I did not have direct knowledge. I was not being condescending. However the initial statement was about the both days not the one day, so I stand by my statement for Veterans’ Day.

  18. - Joe Bidenopolous - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 10:45 am:

    =With all due respect,=

Whatever dude. Parents know the calendar and don’t need you mansplaining it. Thanks.

  19. - Amalia - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 11:03 am:

Does anyone one else think the Rittenhouse prosecution could result in a not guilty? 2 prosecution witnesses sounded more like defense witnesses. also a not guilty in that trial might not stir up unrest like other cases, but it is a concern.

  20. - Big Mike - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 11:14 am:

Just read an article in Trains Magazine about the Effingham short line railroad and its owner. The owner has quite a vision for expansion and bringing in new businesses and jobs to the area.

  21. - RNUG - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 11:40 am:

It’s actually a pretty nice day. Gone with the Mrs on a color drive around the west central part of the state. No maps,no plans. Maybe hitting a few off the beaten path antique stores, and an obscure restaurant or two.

  22. - someonehastosayit - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 11:45 am:

====The one thing Kinzinger can’t do is lose an election. There’s no good in that martyrdom. None. No reward or badge of honor. There is a sense of fighting in the arena while figuratively being in a penalty box type existence====

I’m glad no one told this to Abraham Lincoln.

  23. - RNUG - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 11:46 am:

    - Amalia - my guts says, when both the trial and expected appeals are done, is he’ll only have to pay a fine on an illegal firearms possession charge … and pay all his legal bills.

  24. - thisjustinagain - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 11:48 am:

    1) Frost 3 days in a row.
    2) Bears…sigh. Coach is irrelevant when players don’t perform. Nagy and Pace aren’t the only issue.
    3) Cook County re-institutes gun/ammo tax; see you in court again real soon to overturn it again.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 11:49 am:

=== I’m glad no one told this to Abraham Lincoln.===

A tall, gawky, awkward sounding, small town law-yer who was a one term congressman… in a 21st century media world?

    (Sigh)

It’s like FDR, who knows if either in these media days could’ve been President… but…

  26. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 12:23 pm:

==Bears…sigh. Coach is irrelevant when players don’t perform. Nagy and Pace aren’t the only issue.==

And when owners and management don’t care about winning.

  27. - Leslie K - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 12:40 pm:

===so I stand by my statement for Veterans’ Day.===

Even though no one was claiming Veterans’ Day was a surprise.

  28. - Steve Polite - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 1:26 pm:

    Joe and Leslie,

I stand corrected. After thinking about what I said, I realize I made some assumptions I shouldn’t have made and posted out of turn.

  29. - Leslie K - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 2:53 pm:

Steve Polite @1:26, thank you for that. I’ve posted out of turn myself a time or two (or more…though I promise I try not to), so I get it. I appreciate the follow-up that is true to your handle.

  30. - DuPage - Friday, Nov 5, 21 @ 4:26 pm:

2-year triple bypass anniversary was last week. The tests I had yesterday came back all good. Can’t ask for anything more.
