Will Black Friday take on a new meaning this year in Chicago, after the Bears lose to the Lions on Thanksgiving? As in a housecleaning of the Bears coaching staff?

  2. - oifredleg - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 8:43 am:

Da Bears…snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Being a fan of the Bears, Cubs and Arsenal, I need to reevaluate my team loyalties.

  3. - Give Me A Break - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 8:52 am:

One of the best weeks of the entire year. As early as Thursday of last week started getting out of office replies.

  4. - Independent - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 9:05 am:

Not even the Bears can reach Lion levels of incompetence.

  5. - Banish Misfortune - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 9:09 am:

There is an interesting graphic in the NYT from the census bureau that tracks the center of population for each state over time. No surprise it shows center in Illinois moving north and east - to the Chicago and collar counties. A trend that can be seen in nearly every state. People live in cities and suburbs.

  6. - Steve Rogers - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 9:11 am:

Kofi is back for tonight’s game vs. Cincinnati. The Bearcats are pretty good. If the Illini play the way they did against Marquette, it’s going to be a long night.

  7. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 9:59 am:

Yesterday’s sour Bears loss was offset by the Bulls and Hawks winning last night. The Bulls are tied for best in the East right now. The Hawks’ record is much better under the new head coach.

  8. - Steve Reick - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 9:59 am:

@Steve Rogers: Think pure thoughts. Go Illini.

  9. - Leslie K - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 10:04 am:

I saw the play “Her Honor Jane Byrne” over the weekend and highly recommend it. An interesting examination of her move into Cabrini Green and the social and political currents around it.

  10. - obiter dictum - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 10:23 am:

Marc-Andre Fleury stole a game for the hawks last night. That is what a vezina goalie looks like.
back to back on the road are difficult games no matter what team you are playing. Bulls and Hawks won yesterday. Did any other Chicago team play?

  11. - Lori H - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 10:40 am:

AMEN! Rest, binge football watching enjoy family and all let’s try not to work :)

  12. - Cheryl44 - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 10:52 am:

Banish–I ready that too. Grundy Co is the population center of Illinois now.

  13. - Blue Dog - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 11:01 am:

Prayers for the folks in Waukesha.

  14. - Galway Bay - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 11:06 am:

In the November 14 trib—real estate section—was a short blurb on Bears O Line coach buying a house near the Bears facility. Wow. I would rent for a while if I was him.

  15. - Grimlock - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 11:09 am:

Saw Ghostbusters: Afterlife and it is a great sequel to the original. Some nostalgia and some new elements all mixed together very nicely. As far as kids go, language is about the same as the original, a bit of swearing here and there. So maybe leave the younger ones at home but otherwise families should see it together. I can’t promise some of you won’t cry either.

  16. - hisgirlfriday - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 11:52 am:

Hate seeing that Alden is circling over the Lee Enterprises newspapers now so soon after their attack on the Trib.

What more is there even to cut there?

  17. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 12:50 pm:

On the 1-ish mile stretch of South MacArthur in Springfield between HyVee and South Grand this morning on my way to work, there were 3 State Police cars monitoring traffic. I didn’t see any Springfield city officers although MacArthur is still state-maintained IIRC even though 54 and 4 have been gone from the boulevard for about 40 years. I’ve never seen that many officers monitoring traffic in such a short distance at once unless this is an aftereffect of yesterday’s Waukesha parade tragedy.

  18. - Huh? - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 1:18 pm:

Blue dog - how was deer hunting with the grandkids?

  19. - Dotnonymous - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 1:46 pm:

“Blue dog “- how was deer hunting with the grandkids?

Painful and bloody…if you asked the Deer.

  20. - thisjustinagain - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 2:15 pm:

The Bears are still who we thought they were, and they are terrible. I will laugh heartily if Detroit breaks it’s losing/tie streak by beating the Bears.
And somebody please tell the NFL that no team which is playing .500 or less EVER deserves to be in playoffs, no matter what. Pretty soon we’ll have a 32-team playoff the way it’s going.

  21. - up2now - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 2:56 pm:

Re: Alden circling over Lee Enterprises… It’s like a vulture trying to pick flesh off a bleached skeleton.

  22. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 3:15 pm:

Which IIRC for about the last 1-2 years before this season would have meant that the entire NFC East would have been shut out of the playoffs, to Joe Buck’s discontent.

And the same rule should apply to college football. No teams 500 or less (or even 1 game above .500) should be eligible for bowl games. Let mid-majors with records 4 or so games above 500 get a chance to play in the bowls over a .500 Power Five team.

  23. - Blue Dog - Monday, Nov 22, 21 @ 9:46 pm:

experience with grandkids. time well spent. no deer. a bit windy and cold. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
